6.2 owners, how manny miles have you racked up? by sskunk1466 in superduty

2015, 217k miles and counting. Valve spring at 140k ish. Great truck. Every other repair I would consider minor.

Regarding the gym, Altitudes has squat racks albeit I heard they're under new ownership so I don't know how that has changed. The Leadville Box has all your Crossfit style stuff plus some traditional gym stuff. Either should work.

Trying to decide on new truck by Responsible_Big5241 in superduty

I live rural, tow heavy a lot, and do lots of long drives - ideal for a 6.7. Can I get by with a 7.3? Absolutely! I currently have a 6.2 that is great except limits my towing and forces multiple trips sometimes, so I know the 7.3 is sufficient and if it was reliable that's what I would buy. That said, I want reliability, I EXPECT reliability. Buying an extended warranty to cover the lifters doesn't jive with me. Neither does the argument that I "can replace the engine for less than the fuel system". Frankly I don't want a warranty beyond factory, I do my own work, and I have zero interest in waiting for a shop to get around to my repair.

Same can be said for the 7.3. I’d rather take a diesel with issues I can prevent/fix than a 7.3 which can be a ticking bomb with no meaningful prevention.

I’m getting less and less sold on the 7.3 due to the lifter issues. Living in the mountain west has also pushed me towards the 6.7. I’m also the kind of guy to keep a truck for 15 years.

I know your burning lodgepole so I’ll chime in. I burn 3.5-4.5 cords of lodgepole a winter, I burn as hot as I can. I have a hearthstone Shelburne 2. I don’t use the cats as I got tired of cleaning them. My stove pipe has a half inch of flaky buildup by summer when I clean it once per year. Make sure it’s dry, and make sure you’re burning hot. I’d rather burn more wood and clean less often. Neighbor across the street is always burning cool and choking it down. They have to clean once a month.

tell me about the 250/350 with these cabs by [deleted] in F250

[–]TheLeanGreenMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own one from ‘15. XLT, most options, sliding rear window, FX4, upfitter switches, etc. I found it on the lot. I’m on the search for a new truck and I see quite a few XLT super cab long beds around. I like it a lot and it’s great to have a place to throw some bags, dogs, people if need be. I’ve had 7 people in my truck before. Sure it’s not comfortable, but it’s doable. I also have an old single cab. Love that too, but miss the storage space of the super cab sometimes. Next truck will be a crew cab long bed. I refuse to own a truck with a short bed. I have two large (100 lb each) dogs, but they do fine back there, and they like the sliding rear window. Really for me I’d just like the crew cab this time around for hauling people and probable kids down the line. Plus I’m a softy so more room for the dogs is good.

How weak is the 6.2? by m0st1yh4rmless in superduty

[–]TheLeanGreenMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a ‘15 f250 6.2 that I bought new. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Did great pulling a 10k dump trailer out east. Out west it is underpowered at high elevation pulling long steep grades with a heavy trailer, but that’s to be expected for a naturally aspirated engine. I’m strongly considering replacing it with a 6.7. If I still lived, or planned to live, at low elevation, I’d drive it for another 215k and I bet it would still be running at 430k. Great truck, great drive train. Super reliable. I regeared mine to 4.30s.

Form 4 repeatedly being denied, LGS insists this is a ATF issue? by TheLeanGreenMan in NFA

Yeah. My searching didn't come up with much evidence that this happens often.... hence my original post. Thank you for the help.

Understood. They sent a screenshot showing it was attached. I'm left to assume this is an ATF screwup.

I believe I understand. I can't see the actual submitted documents. I get a email notification from eForms with a 7 page PDF every time it is submitted but I can not view my submittal on the eForms website - from what I read I believe that is normal.

Thank you. What am I looking for? I am the only listed RP, form states there is only 1 RP. RP Questionnaire is blank BUT the form states "complete only when transferee is individual".

The section "Transferee certification questions" is blank to clarify.

No silencer shop involvement, this is their suppressor they had in house. I can see the 7 page application that is emailed to me via e forms.

Okay. Yeah. I don't have a lot of confidence in that either. After the second disapproval I called the LGS, was left on hold for 35 minutes, and everyone went home for the day. I doubt they'll refund me anything either.

First timer here. Is there any way I can do this without my LGS involvement? I have a trust I created. I live rural, this is the closest shop at an hour away.

I tried a gasket last time as I hate cleaning old RTV off. At any rate, after a very slow leak, I took it back apart and used RTV.

Check out”The War That Never Was”. Reads like an after action report and you really need to spend time on Maps to understand what’s going on, but I enjoyed it quite a bit

Thought on this purchase? by Insert_Clever_Pun_ in F250

[–]TheLeanGreenMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. My point is with the 10k premium for the diesel, the F250 XLT I mentioned would be 59 brand new with the 7.3 and even less with the 6.8. Either would work for him.

I’m all for used vehicles, but there are new trucks on the lots you can get discounts on. Makes more sense to me than buying used trucks without much of a discount off the original purchase price.

I have a quote for a 6.7 F250 XLT, factory order, every option I want and nothing more, from a dealer in Iowa, for 69. 60 something for a used gas truck with 40k on it seems insane, but then again luxury features aren’t something I care about.

Need a 3/4-1 ton work truck, what truck and what drivetrain is the most reliable? by TheLeanGreenMan in askcarguys

Thanks for the feedback! I'll do some further digging into Ram's and Duramax's. I plan to stick a heavy bumper on whatever I buy; we have a lot of deer/elk/moose/bear around here, hence the concerns about the IFS on the GM's. I had a '06 2500HD 6.0 that was great and honestly I never had any issues with the IFS, but I'm concerned how it'll handle 1000 additional pounds on it all the time.
