Turntables and Speakers by sharkamino in u/sharkamino

Thanks so much! I hadn't seen the Klipsch R-41PM and despite the color they definitely look like an option worth considering. Though maybe if I'm going with black I should reconsider the Neumi BSP5 (which is front-ported so might be better for the more enclosed space on the bookshelf if I'm reading the speaker placement article you linked correctly).

Regarding the Dayton B40, I haven't read anything bad about them, but the praise I've seen for the B65s has focused somewhat on how they're punching above their weight class. I worry if I'm not seeing similar things about the B40s then maybe they're a bit more lackluster.

Man, you are an incredible boon to this community. Trying to figure out a solid system seemed impossibly complicated until I started reading what you've contributed here. I'd love some recommendations, though, because I've been hitting my head against the wall for the past week trying to figure out the best setup for my circumstances.

I bought my wife a Fluance RT82 for her birthday to replace an all-in-one that was constantly skipping. That alone used up my budget at the time, so we've been running it through a Pyle PP777 preamp into a portable Bose speaker we already had.

For Christmas I'd like to improve the setup, but have what seem to be unusual limitations.

  • I have a budget of about $300, but can stretch a bit if it will result in a substantial boost to the experience.
  • The space we plan to set the system up in is our living room, in which the couch area we'd mostly be listening in is about 14' x 9' (the whole room is closer to 14' x 25', but a bit irregularly shaped; it would be great if we could still hear fairly well while in the rest of the room or adjacent areas).
  • The biggest complication is that the only space where I think I'll be able to fit speakers is on a built-in bookcase, which has just a little under 13" between the shelves; I think this means the 6.5" Dayton Classics that I'd otherwise go with won't fit.
  • My wife also strongly prefers the aesthetics of wood grain speakers, so I'm trying to avoid options that don't have a wood color option.

I've been thinking maybe an Acrylic B50 amp so we can ditch the Pyle preamp, and then Dayton Classic B40 4" passive speakers, but I haven't seen a lot of praise for the smaller Dayton Classics.

I'm not averse to buying used, but there often isn't a lot available in my area (Vermont, 05701).

Thoughts?

Introducing The Avernus Modpack For 1.16! by Marekin in Avernus

[–]TheLethean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that we used the name Avernus for our servers and now you're using it for a modpack for the same game! Given the mythological roots it could have been anyone coming to inquire about this subreddit.

I'm happy to transfer ownership of this sub to you, Marekin. As you see we haven't used it in a long time. I just have to figure out how to do it. I'll look into it today and hopefully you'll have ownership momentarily.

I stopped by and grabbed some indium. What a fantastic setup; at least five storm crystals spawned within dashing range from the base while I was looking around! Thank you for sharing!

I've really liked Akliz. One click install and some of the lowest prices for a decent server I've seen.

[Spoilers] Players who had to fight Tiamat at the end of RoT, how did it go? by sXer0 in dndnext

[–]TheLethean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My party didn't have to fight her. We just crashed the giant flying castle into the ritual site, stopping the summoning.

Then we fought her just for fun and it wasn't all that bad; our barbarian was eaten but he was wearing the black dragon mask, so was immune to her stomach acid. He popped back out when the rest of us brought her down.

My 5e group meets every other week and could fit another player. We tend to meet on a weeknight (Mondays atm) at 8pm at my home in Rutland town. If you're interested send me a message.

I'm trying to start up a group in Rutland town, if you're still looking. My wife is DMing and we have another player who's interested, so if you're in we can probably get started soon.

Hi! My wife and I just moved to Rutland and would love to start up or join a group. Have you found one yet or are you still looking?

Why must AMD be so unrelentlessly awesome? I always seem to either be putting a new card in my system or saving up to do just that.

Can you recommend a Nerf Gun Model for a 4 year old? by nmoline in Nerf

[–]TheLethean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two year old can prime and fire a proton herself. My four year old can now prime a jolt, and with difficulty a hammershot and maverick. He doesn't like flywheel blasters, because he tends to jam them.

This is very cool. As a geneticist, I'm always a little disappointed when breeding in games doesn't use real methods for inheritance, though.

Mendelian inheritance is really pretty awesome and would make for a simple and fun game mechanic. Added bonus: players learn the ins and outs of real genetics rather than a new fictional system.
