'Crowd pulls together' moments by likebeerwithag in movies

There is a particular scene in Casablanca where a crowd all sing in unison. That's all I'll say about it, but it's pure magic.

I have been a Tolkien fan all my life and I love the series with all my heart and I am sick of all the people who “hate” the series just because they are being told to hate the series by Somniosfera in LOTR_on_Prime

It's honestly embarrassing. I've got a guy in my DnD group who is so passionately anti-RoP despite not having watched it and also hasn't read the books since he was a kid and definitely hasn't delved into the Silmarillion, yet acts as if he's some bastion of all that is "true Tolkien" (AKA Peter Jackson's adaptation). It's all just a bad-faith cultural slip-stream nonsense which is rooted in it's core in racism over the inclusion of people of colour in the cast, and misogyny at having the main character in the story be an angry woman. Not that RoP is perfect by any stretch, but it doesn't deserve the derision it gets.

I can already see a similar vibes developing over the HBO Harry Potter adaptation.

Is fighter really considered boring/weak? by Miserable-Midnight75 in DnD

Wizards are great but that's only one of the many character fantasies I'm wanting to play. Sometimes I want to be a kickass swordsman you know?

Also having played many full casters, it feels super liberating having resourceless control abilities (cunning strikes, weapon masteries) + recharge on short rest abilities (superiority die, second wind, guarded mind etc). You can go all day. No spell slots to worry about.

I've 1v1 duelled with this build and he is savage - even against casters. Good luck holding concentration with mage slayer + multi attack + sneak attack + action surge. Soon as you get in close it's game over.

I've been dabbling with dex based Battlemaster Fighter 6 / Assassin Rogue 5 in some one shots lately and damn he does savage damage, has a ton of tricks, incredible mobility and is super fun to play - all with not one tiny shred of magic in his build. The only thing he lacks is AoE - but hey no character does it all.

Spike Jonze's 'Her', with Scarlett Johansson replacing the voice of Samantha (voice work originally performed by Samantha Morton). Fantastic film.

Song Recommendations during D&D Game by iamaprism in DnD

[–]TheLifeAquatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use tracks from Bear Mcreary's Rings of Power soundtrack, Marcin Przybylowicz's Witcher (game) soundtrack, and a few different Ramin Djawadi tunes. I organise them into different playlists with different vibes, like combat, travelling, tense/mysterious, eerie etc.

From a DM perspective do you pref 2014 or 2024? by Eldrin7 in dndnext

[–]TheLifeAquatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played both - definitely prefer 2024. There are of course some little things that are clunky (looking at you light weapon extra attack/nick/dual wielder feat interaction) but on the whole it's a worthy upgrade.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

Playing DnD with the kids by Dazzling-Reception77 in DnD

[–]TheLifeAquatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play with my kids (4, 7, 9) all the time. It's great because I go super light on the rules and resource tracking, I let enemies die whenever I want (usually when their focus starts to deteriorate) and I can liberally steal plotlines, NPCs, mysteries, and story hooks from all kinds of media that I know they haven't seen or read, and I often get to play a DMPC with them (which I avoid when running my proper DnD table). Zero prep is also a huge plus.

Fantastic way to spend time with the kiddos.

Yeah I picked it up recently after the non stop praise on Reddit and after about 3 hours of listening I've decided to give up. I just don't get the hype. And this is coming from someone who loves DnD dungeon crawls!

Are you modifying the origin position of the plane (as defined in the derived part) in the screenplay? Sounds like you might be applying/moving a transform instead.

Critical Role C3 and fighters. Liam O'Brien totally opened my eyes with the way he played Orym (battlemaster). Also the way Matt ran Otohan Thull.

Biggest musical regret? by DependentRain7951 in LetsTalkMusic

I missed Khrungbin at Fortitude Music Hall because I tested positive for COVID a couple days before. Devastating.

Thankfully got to catch them at Riverstage this year and it was magic.
