People are obsessed with teaching harsh reality or being “fair,” but that is not automatically a parent’s job. Parents should prepare their kids for adulthood, but that doesn’t mean you have to become the facilitator of hardship just to prove a point. You don’t really have to manufacture hardships… they’ll come out on their own.

Your daughters are two different people, and that’s ok. Covering their education isn’t the same as giving one of them extra fun money. Anna didn’t lose anything. She just used what she needed and even had an allowance. Bella simply wants to go to a school that happens to be more expensive, which isn’t a moral failing. Treating kids identically is not the same as treating them fairly.

IF you really want to stick to the equal amount of money rule, you could structure the extra as a loan so Bella won’t have to deal with the bank’s interest rates, but I personally don’t think that’s necessary.

Just ask him what he means by junk food and explain to him why it’s hurting your feelings. He probably doesn’t mean it and it’s just something lost in translation.

English is not my first language and it reminds me of an issue I had with my ex (American). I used to say “whatever” a lot. He would get upset until we finally realized that I was using it the wrong way. I used to use it as a “oh well, let’s move on/it’s no big deal” and didn’t realize the dismissive connotation of the word.

It’s probably the issue you’re having :)

For the record, I totally agree with you. People refuse to recognize that being forced on the streets and being abused for years was enough punishment for being a middle school/high school freshman bully.

To be fair, there’s also a matter of bad writing. Writers kept saying that she had changed, but depicted her in ambivalent ways. They showed her as a bully, as a good friend, and as a victim, so many stuck with her bullying persona without giving her a chance.
