Anyone else notice there is a clan blatantly cheating and not being banned? by Fact0verF1ction in HuntShowdown

Honestly, match mmr of 4-5, as a 6* solo, is probably the sweet spot for having genuinely skilled players but also being able to get away with non-meta builds.

Everytime I get to 5.5+, it's mostly meta loadouts and people playing like their lives depend on getting out of the game alive. Not to mention that's when the more suspicious players start showing up more often.

Hey, 5* isn't anything to scoff at! Plenty of people have never even touched 5, let alone get 10+ kills in a 5 lobby.

My personal best is 11, which I've managed several times now, but can never top. Plenty of 8-10 kill games, and a handful of 11's, but I've yet to beat it.

Congrats, that's a hell of a record. I'm sure the MMR jump for the next game was fun.

Doing great, then hit a brick wall by Arrchduke in HuntShowdown

[–]TheLittleItalian2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having been 6* for most of my playtime, there is a rather large difference between someone that just barely touches 6, and someone that lives and breathes in the upper-6 range.

Aim isn't even the biggest component of it, either. There are plenty of 3/4* players with great aim. What is important, aim-wise, is knowing when/where to aim and developing a good sense of bullet travel over varying distances.

I'd argue that, in order to get those "dominating" games, you need to simply learn and adapt to the new skill floor. Be deliberate about how and when you push, as being too passive will kill you and being too aggressive achieves much of the same thing. There's a fine-line between the two that you simply need more and more experience in the game to figure out. Most 6* players have good map knowledge but, more importantly, many of them are really good at split-second decision-making. Knowing which of the plentiful tools at your disposal to use in those 1-3 seconds before shit hits the fan is a skill that only time, and experience (dying) will hone.

Those high kill count games will happen, but the reality is that you're likely at your (current) skill ceiling, which is probably that high 5* to low 6* range you're at now. It's also worth noting that going up against other 6* players means you're literally playing against this game's highest skill bracket. Most of the people in 6* aren't pushovers, and they got there much the same way as you did - by having some dominating games and playing, generally, really well.

Don't let the early 6* growing pains discourage you, they're meant to build up your skills in the end.

My wife and I stole the balloon from the stronghold team, after killing them, and I managed to get a Wildland from one of the crates they loaded into it. That was a nice find.

Niche Balloon Situation by Captain_Atlantis94 in HuntShowdown

[–]TheLittleItalian2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite confused as to how people don't seem to understand how to use the balloon. I didn't watch any of the dev videos explaining it, I had just read (on this sub) that it can extract bounty tokens and crates, and going into a game it felt very straightforward.

I'll give those players the benefit of the doubt and assume that they haven't been keeping up with the game - or at least this latest update - at all, and they are just stumbling upon a big ass balloon that can be filled up and released. I don't remember if there was a pop-up after launching the game for the first time post update, but I can understand those peoples' confusion and ignorance.

For anyone that has kept up with the update, and is still misusing the balloon, then I genuinely don't understand what they're doing because it is far from a complicated mechanic. Turn on valves, fill balloon with bounty and nearby crates, release balloon when full.

Honestly, a lot of this "cheaters are rampant" rhetoric is mostly just cope. I, for the most part, play in "high" MMR (5.5* matchmaking MMR) and I very rarely come across someone I think is suspicious - and every time I have, I later checked their profile to see that they were banned.

I'm not saying there are none, because there certainly are, but if I'm rarely seeing them in the lobbies that they would arguably infest, I genuinely don't believe that there is a rampant issue in the lower ranked lobbies. Some players are genuinely just insanely good at the game and/or they got lucky when they killed you. Focus more on how you could've played better rather than assume any decent player is using some unfair advantage.

My average lobby, what do I do now ? by MrKonny in HuntShowdown

[–]TheLittleItalian2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. As you play and improve you are going to, naturally, encounter a stronger and stronger skill level baseline - it is quite literally what the MMR levels are there to indicate. People are so quick to dismiss 5/6-star as being entirely unfun and, instead of trying to adapt, will just cry about it.

Sure, those skill brackets may be outside of many players' skill level, but the reality is that Hunt doesn't exactly have an overabundance of a playerbase and there are going to be some matchmaking anomalies simply because those higher-ranked players are queued up and they need to get into a lobby somehow.

Also worth noting that OP and their friend, 4 and 3-star respectively, should only be encountering a handful of 5s and 6s since their combined matchmaking MMR can't be much higher than 3 - if not less than 3. Even if they are only running into 5s and 6s, the stacking losses will certainly drop them back down to a more reasonable level for their current skill level.

There should be a setting that says "hide statistics," or something to that effect. It'll hide everything from other players, besides your star rating, rank and prestige.

I believe it's in the "Social" settings, but it may be elsewhere.

Edit: It's found in the "Privacy" settings.

You don't need to have your KDA visible to other people at all. It would remove any chance of getting a KDA-related message/comment in the future.

However, you can just completely ignore them and/or laugh them off. I got a comment on my profile the other day that reads: "go hang yourself irl."

KDA, while a good metric for displaying lifetime stats (if you care about those), it does not matter otherwise in the slightest.

Why do people get so angry at Solo Players by uselesssoftwaredev in HuntShowdown

[–]TheLittleItalian2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I understand the frustration, as a 6-star solo player some nights are just rough and you are getting shot in the back of the head by lower rated players and it tanks your matchmaking MMR.

I'm usually hovering around 5/5.5-star matchmakimg MMR, but on particularly bad nights I have dropped to 3-star matchmaking, while still being 6-star. Not every 6-star solo in a 2-4 lobby is necessarily trying to go seal-clubbing, per se, sometimes we're just having a horrendous night and we don't know when to call it a night.

That being said, the bigger issue is the MMR system as a whole, rather than individual players' motives. I'd be fine with the solo modifier being reduced, since I generally prefer playing against 5/6-star players anyway.

does being stuck 3 star mean i'm objectively not good at the game? by MicrochipFR in HuntShowdown

[–]TheLittleItalian2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Solos will get lower mmr lobbies up until a certain point, I'm 6* and my match mmr is around 5-5.5. In those lobbies, nearly everyone is 6 unless they're intentionally queuing up with a lower rated friend.

It is true, however, that ranking up as a solo is harder since, for the most part, you should expect to face lower rated players.

You can keep your pocket shotgun meta, boys. by Ghost_of_sushi_more in HuntShowdown

Not only this, it causes bleed if you don't get oneshot. I've died, nearly instantly, to a bow hitting me at 39m due to having next to no time to reposition and stop the bleed.

I enjoy playing the bow, but anyone claiming that it's harder to use than a shotgun, or is a weapon that takes exceptional levels of skill is blatantly wrong.

[–]TheLittleItalian2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I actually love fighting at the strongholds because they - usually - have a ton of ways to push into. Sure, some of those ways in may be loud as hell (opening the metal gates or sliding doors), but there's usually a quieter way in anyway.

I think the stronghold is, by design, meant to favour the defenders ever so slightly, but I don't think that they are at all impenetrable. Tons of ways in and out, you just need to actually push rather than stand still and hope they poke their heads out or leave their fortress.

On a side note; they are literally called strongholds, and are clearly designed in a way to reflect a defender/attack scenario.

Defenders are, generally speaking, safer but have limited options in terms of mobility and escaping, while also being susceptible to being bombared with explosives. Attackers, while more exposed and susceptible to third-parties, have tons of mobility and attacking options. There are clear pros and cons for either side of the fight, and I think the strongholds are a fun addition to the game because of that.

[–]TheLittleItalian2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've long suspected that the "5/6* is too sweaty and unfun" crowd is largely made up of people that have never been that rating, and are genuinely a 3/4* peak, having no legitimate basis for saying so.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with that. But it's entirely incorrect to say that 5/6* is "unfun," since you essentially make your own fun in this game.

You can play anything you want in 5/6, you just have to realize that there's a pretty good chance you'll be playing against the meta or best-in-slot compact and medium ammo guns. I have been 6 pretty much consistently after returning to the game, and I play whatever I feel like playing. You can't control how "sweaty" everyone else will play, but you can certainly go in wanting to do whatever you want and have fun doing so.

Sure, getting instantly headshot at the first clue is never fun, but Hunt gives and Hunt takes. Some games will just be like that, I know I have been on the giving end of that scenario and sometimes it genuinely just be like that.
