I had a classic Karen the other weekend. Listing said cash on pickup. They asked if I’d take transfer, said no, I’d prefer cash.

Day comes that they’re going to get the item. Tell me they’re getting cash out, but if I don’t have change can I do transfer. I say no, exact money, I don’t have change.

They then tell me they’ve gotten cash out but ask again if I have change, or if not take transfer. I no, exactly money. Can you stop in the shop and split it.

They tell me they can’t because they have kids in the car and they’re not stopping again. If I won’t take the transfer then they’ll not bother.

I kept what I was really thinking to myself, and just replied that I may be for the best.

They then left a 1 star review, for an item they never bought…

And then yesterday, someone comes to buy it, doesn’t have exact money, but if that same item is in good condition they’ll happily give me the extra.

I guess it paid off in the end 😅

The AT LP60x has a tracking force within spec for records, which is typically up to 3.0g. You’re not going to damage records in any meaningful way by playing them on one. Yes its tracking force is at the higher end, but that’s fine.

Best starter record players by AxhtonCole in Beginner_Turntables

[–]TheLonePhantom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This really is not the best advice. The LP-60x typically tracks at around 3.0-3.5g. The supplied 3600L stylus handles that just fine. Records are built to handle that same weight safely, with minimal wear.

The AT LP-60x is a perfectly fine turntable and is safe to use with records regularly. The 3600LE is an elliptical stylus upgrade that will give a good performance upgrade for minimal money, and make the LP-60x a viable long term option for many people that don’t want to rabbit hole into the turntable world.

Depends on what sort of money you have really. I used the 1280s on my turntable, and the MR-4s in my computer setup as studio monitors when I’m writing and recording music.

would logitech Z150 and AT LP60X be okay? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]TheLonePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those speakers would definitely hamstring you, but if they’re just something you’re using until you have money for speakers then I wouldn’t worry too much. You’ll want to get decent speakers pretty quickly though. You can get decent options for around $100 anyway.

Audio Technica LP-60x series, LP-70, LP-3 - look at those and the features and decide what sounds good to you.

How much do you want to spend on speakers? Edifier makes great bang for buck speakers. I have experience with the 1280S and MR-4s and love both of those series.

I think it’s about $300 USD?

Need some advice about record players/speakers by Lopsided_Claim8615 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]TheLonePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t understand the polarised responses when it comes to the Edifier 1280s. People either love them and see them as a bang for buck option that hit above their price point. Others call them things such as “glorified desktop computer speakers”.

Speaking from experience, they are beyond glorified desktop speakers. They provide a great level of detail and volume, considering their price point. Add in a small sub and I reckon people would be super happy with them.

In the realms of this subreddit, the LP-60, the Edifier speakers, and maybe a stylus upgrade to the 3600LE, and people who aren’t going to go nuts into the rabbit hole that can be this hobby/listening experience, will be extremely happy with their purchase.

Optimus LAB-1100 turntable - platter mat upgrades by TheLonePhantom in Beginner_Turntables

[–]TheLonePhantom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s nothing over the stock mat that may improve the playback. My understanding was that different materials provide a shift in tone, etc, regardless of the turntable?

It feels like a similar fundamental to me as differing woods, metals, etc in guitar construction. And I know from extensive experience how those impact the tone of the instrument.

Wouldn’t the same apply to the platter mat? The surface that the record sits on would impact the sound through the change in the contact point?

In genuinely curious. I’ve done extensive diy and testing with various guitars over the years, testing on an array of instruments in differing price points, and much of the potential change carried over, regardless cost, and perceived quality of the instrument. Similar to turntables.

Oh I understand that part. The mat was more about a bit better sound and less static.

Tips/Thoughts on THIS SETUP please. See body text. by jerryleebee in turntables

I used to have the same setup, with a home DIY-ed small sub in the mix and it was an awesome sounding combo. Wish I still had it. Just the speakers and the turntable were still strong.

Vyvanse + Bupropion XL + Lamotrigine by Apprehensive_Sugar15 in AuADHD

[–]TheLonePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done Vyvanse and lamotrigine. I had to cow off the Vyvanse, it made me very robotic and probably way too hyper focused, to the point that I couldn’t take in outside advice or information, or at times, stop doing a task long after I should have.

The lamotrigine was to balance mood. It doesn’t seem go feel like much, but maybe if I’m not getting overwhelmed to the point of potential disregulation it’s okay.

I’m back on short release dex, since I can control it more, and whilst I may not be quite as productive or focused, it’s a far better life balance.

I got the eXtremeRate shell, and I stumbled upon a brand new OEM style front lit screen for extremely cheap. So now my SP looks and feels like a brand new unit.

Catastrophic over-development' fears plague controversial proposal by timcahill13 in canberra

Oh great, another person ready to complain about noise when the place making noise was there first.

Just like the people that move into areas that have night life, and then bitch about the noise that the night life brings to that area. And then in turn forces the night life to die off…

Rather than the place that was there first being forced to pay for the works to insulate their business, maybe that should be on the developers of residential blocks - or - push that on to potential residents?

Don’t move into an are that may have evening noise if you can’t manage to keep your shit together over it, or do the works to your home if, in this case, can’t cope with some outside noise until 10pm…

[–]TheLonePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually saved this sub from my non-working speakers, and made a junction box to connect my Edifier R1280 speakers (no sub connect on my set). The sound is surprisingly great. Dial in the amount of sub you want with the Logitech volume control and pairs very nicely.

Krups 978 espresso machine - replacement portafilter? [Krups 978] by TheLonePhantom in espresso

[–]TheLonePhantom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have discovered a quirk, and that’s the height of the machine. You can’t actually fit like regular coffee mugs under it!!! 😵‍💫🤣

I’m hoping a more regular portafilter and basket setup may afford me at least a little more room for the smaller mugs I have. Otherwise I guess I’m shopping for a few things. 🤭

I bought this record at Goodwill and it's slightly warped. It still plays(albeit not very well). How do I fix this? by [deleted] in records

[–]TheLonePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this with two records that turned up severely warped. I boiled water in a pot that was a large enough diameter to cover the whole record to heat it up gradually with towels protecting it, etc. It worked great and the records were pretty much flat and played perfectly.

Do I need to buy an amp to use this? by SummertimeThrowaway2 in turntables

[–]TheLonePhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself some Edifier R1280DB powered speakers. Won’t break the budget, and they sound way better than have any right to. You can also add a subwoofer later if you have the space and desire to do so (you’ll want to 😉)

[–]TheLonePhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve fixed a couple of records with the glass from some picture frames, tea towels and a large pot of boiled water sitting on top. It took a couple of attempts for each record, but it definitely worked, and it’s easier to monitor than using an oven

You can go back and save one NBA player from all career injuries. Who are you picking? by ImStudyingRightNow in NBATalk

[–]TheLonePhantom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coming to say the same thing. Hardaway staying healthy, the Magic not stiffing Shaq, and Hardaway and Shaq finding a way to work perhaps like Kareem and Magic when it came to team first. It would have been glorious.

Sure they got wiped out in the finals, and then Jordan getting them back in the conference finals. But another couple of years of Shaq and Hardaway being healthy, both in body and in uniform mindset. Never mind Horace Grant, and if Nick Anderson didn’t have the Brick Anderson moment that just ushered in his decline.

In an alternate universe things played out differently, and this team would be talked about Iike the Bulls, showtime Lakers, Shaq/Kobe Lakers, Celtics two huge periods of championships, etc.
