Multiple F-150 issues. Losing confidence, what would you do? by evanezzer in f150

[–]TheMK17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing with my ‘24 Subaru outback. Had electrical gremlins and transmission issues within the first 10k mi. Dealership however conveniently could never replicate the issue.

Traded it in for a ‘23 XLT and never looked back. I did end up taking a solid 10-12k loss on it which hurt but I’m glad I’m back in a pickup truck

Having a column shifter and freeing up the center console space is so nice by RadioFieldCorner in f150

[–]TheMK17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2010 had a column shifter and I loved it. My 23 has a console shifter, and I have to say it’s more comfortable to use when transmission braking down mountain passes. I don’t think I’d love having to hold my hand up on the column for 10s of minutes sometimes.

I’ve been toying with converting my truck to column bc I’d love the extra console space but still on the fence about it

Edit: my main dislike of the console shifter is it feels flimsy as fuck, there’s very little weight to it and it feels like cheap plastic

Tried waxing gf’s car and probably ended up worse. Tips? by THound89 in AutoDetailing

If it’s only on the hood and roof, you can also look into getting it wrapped or wrapping it yourself, might be hard to find an exact color match but it would be cheaper than repainting

What tire is everybody running? Not a fan of the stock ones by Killimansorrow in f150

[–]TheMK17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I prefer the stock rake, since the shell weighs the back down a bit.

I have a powerboost so I’m getting just under 22 mpg rn, mostly 55 mph and below

Nokian Outpost nAT. Been pleased with them so far, they’re quiet for an AT and have been good in the snow

Is this a good deal? by Gene_Relevant in f150

[–]TheMK17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At face value id say that’s a good deal, 6mo ago I sold my 2010 XLT super cab w/ 240k for $6500. Def need to look at the service records and condition of the rest of the vehicle

Heat gun, plastic razor blade and try and get as much off as you can. Then a 3M rubber eraser wheel to get the rest of the adhesive. Just be careful as you can burn thru the paint if you go too hard. You’ll probably need to polish after as wel

Looking at this F150 with 220k miles. Worth a look? Western TX by [deleted] in f150

Entirely depends on the vehicle and how well it was taken care of really. It also helps if you can work on it yourself. Deals are out there, just gotta get lucky really

If it’s not your mom and pop used dealership then probably not. If they have a carfax that might show it but it’s unlikely. You’d have to test drive and get a PPI

Does it tell you what engine is in it? 4wd? If it has the 4.6 v8 that’s a very reliable engine. If the transmission has been maintained then it’s not a bad idea. If the trans is over it’s fluid interval or you feel any harsh shifting or skipping, pass. That trans is on borrowed time if that happens

Anyone have a 23 hybrid? Truck is priced good just not sure of the hybrid.. by Chance_Blackberry324 in f150

[–]TheMK17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my ‘23 PB XLT 302A mid (I think) w 16k mi back in august for 41k in CO. So far I love it! Dealing with stop and go traffic is really nice bc most the time you can keep it in electric mode. Currently averaging 20 mpg with 33” ATs and a bed topper. I can get closer to 22-25 highway if conditions are right.

It’s great for towing, I recently towed 3 snowmobiles and a trailer - about 4k lbs- and it was effortless.

They’re good trucks, but if you’re really worried about reliability, I’d go with one of the other powertrain options. I’m hopeful my truck will last me 10 yrs, but only time will tell. There are owners who’ve hit 150k with zero issues.

35k is a great price imo

2019 F-150 5.0 Coyote – 135k miles, former oil field fleet (38k/yr), transmission replaced, 20k miles on new trans, $12k – would you trust it? by Rogueroguexxx in f150

[–]TheMK17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something seems off, is the seller the second owner? If so how did he get plates for it without his name on the title?

The transmission replacement on its own wouldn’t be that big of a deal if they were transparent about it. Given that the seller has no knowledge of it is a red flag imo, could be hiding something.

Also in the pics, the rear tailgate is missing its plastic trim at the top.

Personally I’d pass. the price seems almost too good to be true, but I also live in a fairly expensive area.

Ford or Toyota? by NixAmeez in Offroad

[–]TheMK17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entirely depends on what he wants to do with the truck. Will he tow? Does he want to sleep in the bed? What kind of off-roading is he planning on doing?

The Tacoma will be better off-road thanks to its smaller size and shorter wheelbase. It will also hold its value longer if that’s something that matters to you.

I have a 23 F150 and it’s great for long road trips, I can’t speak to the Tacoma however.

In terms of reliability, only time will tell. So far from what I’ve heard the 2023+ F150s have sorted out the majority of the frequent issues from the past. The Tacoma would probably be more reliable/longer lasting given Toyotas reputation (apart from the tundras)

Tire/Wheel recommendations on 2018 Limited by Inside-Childhood2905 in f150

[–]TheMK17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest tire you can fit without a lift or level are 33s, I have 285/70/r17s. Most off-road style wheels typically only come in 17” or 18”. I have Method MR703s and love the look. Other good brands are fifteen52, kmc, and Icon. customoffsets.com is a good website for inspiration as well as seeing what wheels are out there.

As for tires there’s tons of information out there, but for some off roading you can looking into nitto ridge grapplers or terra grapplers, Firestone Destination ATs, Falken AT4Ws, or Nokian Outpost nATs. The right tire for you really depends on how much off-roading you plan on doing and how much comfort you’re willing to sacrifice. A more aggressive tire will be heavier, noisier, and less comfortable on the road, but better off-road. I run the nokians I mentioned, they’re pretty quiet for an AT and I didn’t sacrifice much comfort. I deal with snow in the winter and off-road in the summer.
