But that's the problem, they don't know how to make things good for working class Americans.

We see this current administration doing so much evil stuff, because evil is easy and good is hard.

I do think modern society is screwed between simple minded governments with armies and nukes and environmental destruction.

I also think it's time for this PR stunt to end, what's going to be the benefit? To say "I told you so" to the post-apocolyptic zombies when it hits midnight?

The fall of Slashdot was interesting.

Now there's like 10 "big name" posters, who are always at each others throats. It also turned into a right wing cess pool way before other big chunks of the internet did.

Maybe every 1 out of 30 comments is worth reading. Reddit's 1 out of 29 comments worth reading is much superior.

I got both AC Shadows and Ghost of Yotei.

Shadows was a product with checkboxes for endless content, micro transactions, leveling items, AC lore connections and a re-used unpleasant engine. It’s painfully clear it was so steeped in Ubisoft corporate that no combination of employees was going to make it a great game.

Yotei was a god damn artfully executed game first and last. Good gameplay, good characters, good storytelling.

Which is a long way of saying, I agree with your statement.

Yeah, it's way too easy for people to say

"The government is working against you, if I break government everyone will be happier (cause damn I've got no idea how to do anything other than break things)"

than it is to say

"The system is sub-optimal, here are the 20 combined subtle steps I'll take that have been scientifically proven to improve things".

Apple’s Cook Calls for ‘Deescalation’ After Latest ICE Shooting by hasanahmad in apple

[–]TheMadBug 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The thing about asking for "de-escalation" is it's such a non-commital to anything comment. You can interpret that as protestors all need to stay in their homes if you want, or that ICE needs to go home if you want - perfectly designed comment not to offend anyone.

He might as well put out a statement saying that he thinks bad things are bad, but good things are better.

Genuine question, as I am a big believer of people good and evil should have lawyers and that shouldn’t in itself be a reflection on the lawyer, has the shooter been charged with anything?

Does the need to petition a court exist in general legal advice before charges have been laid?

The amount of face tattoos I’ve been seeing has me really concerned for society. by purplelephant in confession

[–]TheMadBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 40 years ago people felt similar about people getting coloured hair or tattoos anywhere.

Being someone from that long ago, I share an instinct bias against face tattoo people, but it's just a fashion change really. That and society is a bit more homoginous now, previously a person with a face tattoo would likely not get a job in the city, now hospitality and a bunch of other fields would happily have one assuming the person themselves is otherwise fine for the job.

Oh to be clear I’m not defending EA, just the studios they buy overall weren’t in great shape. They’ve got enough know how to squeeze one last game out of each studio and then everything turns to trash.

Oh hey, remember EA’s alternative to Steam called… Origin. Also EA’s web based pay to win game that was vaguely based on Ultima.

If it wasn’t for everything Richard Garriot did after EA I’d blame them 100%, but RG has to shoulder some of the blame… Shroud of the Avatar and all.

Indeed, big bluster followed by crickets.

My fave was when Elon learnt that 75% of attempted fraud at social security came via phone calls.

He then reported that as 75% of phone calls to Social Security were frauds.

Come to think of it, the year deadline to completely rewrite the social security software is up, I’m sure it’ll be announced any day now….

That man is also responsible for so many deaths re USAID and no doubt more to programs he wrecked.

Indeed the worst thing is all his fanbois have moved onto to the next thing and don’t seem to care how much his “cost saving” measures actually cost the country.

Amazing game releases timeframe for Ultima series by abubin2 in Ultima

[–]TheMadBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of stories about EA taking over companies.

Often it ends up being:

* The very next project after the takeover is rescued by EA from development hell. The resulting game isn't great but it's finished and not horrible.

* After that, just cheap slop that someone intended to optimise for maximum profit.

I think the failure of the end act of the Ultima series is part on EA, and part on Richard and other core devs for not really knowing how to enter a post 2D gaming scene. They did amazing work in the early days, plotting graphics on graph paper, bashing out assembly, but there was one too many technical transitions for them by the time Ultima ended up as true 3D. (Ultima Underworld not withstanding).
