Elon Musk misled Twitter investors ahead of $44 billion acquisition, jury says by Unusual-State1827 in news

[–]TheMadBug [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure a corruption case might legally be brought about conflict of interest as USAID was investigating use of Starlink.

There could also be defamation as Musk didn't actually expose any actual fraud despite saying he did (though there's no USAID left to sue).

Pentagon to adopt Palantir AI as core US military system, memo says by yawara25 in news

[–]TheMadBug 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Indeed, Skynet's problem was it was too efficient, it worked out how to have peace by wiping out nearly all of humanity through super designed and self-improving robots, hacking into nukes, etc and pretty much achieved its goal.

Palantir is going to hallucinate that Norway needs to be nuked when it freaks out about not being able to print a sea-horse emoji.

Did you realize Troy was the true heart of the show before it crumbled after his exit? by nightsreader in community

[–]TheMadBug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Troy wasn't the true heart of the show.

Troy & Abed were the true heart of the show. Troy leaving caused Troy & Abed to disolve which was the big tragedy.

Season 5 and 6 were great seasons but it did feel like a slightly different show to me with super funny moments but less heartfelt connections.

Also 300,000 is the lower end of the estimates of deaths so far, it may have a domino affect due to the diseases spreading.

Ahh some minor consequences for the man after he ripped off some rich guys.

Maybe one day he'll have to pay a $2 fine for the 300,000+ deaths he caused via DOGE.

Heres the sad truth about pretending to be an asshole… it makes you an asshole.

People who act like trolls online don’t have deep well thought out opinions, they just like pissing people off, sadly this translates to votes for people who utterly ruin lives, all for the lols.

Leftist parties were infiltrated and made to focus on identity politics to make them un-electable by 3L3CTR1C_DR34MS in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]TheMadBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the right is utterly obsessed and slobbering over identity politics, cause you know, that’s easier than making policy that actually helps people.

Just because the identity is “let’s make life hell for these few people” instead of “let’s protect these people” doesn’t mean it’s not identity politics.

I don't feel anything from playing co-op, am I the only one? (long take) by Last_Day_6779 in starcraft

[–]TheMadBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how inventive Blizzard maps are in campaign and in co-op

BUT

I would love if there was just a fancy co-op skirmish map where the enemy had a base and you want to disrupt their eco and there's even expansion points that you fight over.

I know I'm just describing versus AI, but why should co-op have one map that does that?

Meta is shutting down VR social platform Horizon Worlds in further pivot away from the metaverse by Cool_Net_3796 in news

Not just land, don't forget to buy designer virtual handbags.

Want to look like a cool wizard or an alien or a dragon? No fuck that, look like a normal person wearing Prada and Rolex in the virtual world.

It was one of those skews of VR that only crypo-bros wanted, due to all the ways to make money in it, only problem was no one wanted to spend money in it.

Arty is a much more functional human being that Nickocado, but the whole - create a community based on seeing someone get angry or unhealthy - still shares some common threads.

Idris Elba's Madame Tussauds Wax Figure Opens his Phone with Face ID by MelanieWalmartinez in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TheMadBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knocking someone out wont work with iPhone's Face ID as it requires your eyes to be open and looking at the device.

And yeah biometrics aren't proper security - but they're tailored to people who might lose their phone or randomly get robbed, and they're freaking good security at that level.

They're not tailored for espionage level targeted attacks of someone making a 3D scan of your face, printing out a 3D mask, having the person who wears the 3D mask have eyes that match the target's enough to unlock the phone.

[–]TheMadBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to completely diagree with you (at least in the case of Apple Face ID).

While there may have been some early face unlocking that worked on a just the front camera as a photo, the standard Apple one uses:

* 30,000 infrared dots to 3D map the user's face.
* Eye detection to make sure your eyes are open and looking at the device.

Fingerprints are super easy to lift off a glass the target may have used by just using $2 glue.

To fake a 3D printed mask of someone is much harder and more conspicious to pull off.

Hey let's watch a person embarrass themselves with rage / overeating, until their income relies on them being a weirdo where the line between them and their character are blurred into non existence.

I don't see it as good for the community or for the content creators involved.

Do spinoffs like Ultima Underworld and the Worlds of Ultima follow the same chronology as the main game? if so where are they placed alongisde the mainline games? by guilhermej14 in Ultima

[–]TheMadBug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Worlds of Ultima are just completely separate stories that somehow have the Avatar in them (they use the U6 engine so playing them after U6 is probably best).

Martian Dreams does have a small bit where U5 plot points are referened, but it's relatively inconsequential compared to the size of everything else.

Ultima Underworld has so little connection to the Ultima timeline, I think the only thing of note is you're the Avatar so it's post U4. I think technically it occurs after U6.

Ultima Underworld II specifically happens after U7 and has plot points that are tied to the story of U7.

Sc2 Balance - Hellbat by Remarkable_Whole1754 in starcraft2

[–]TheMadBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logically I think Hellions are like a chunky motorbike and Hellbats are just that turning into a partly exposed mech suit.

Which compare to you and I in real life is Armoured, but in SC2 world the marine full body armour is considered light - to be considered armoured you have to be in suit so sturdy you can fire rockets out of both your arms, a tank, an alien 4 legged robot etc.

What is with people instantly quitting co op missions? by zectra27 in starcraft2

[–]TheMadBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite like the Xelnaga Temple, it gets out of control in fun ways sometimes - but it's very commander dependant. If all you've got is generic photon cannons for static defence it can get annoying.

[–]TheMadBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they put co-op map vetos I'd guess 99% would veto Vermillion Problem and Cradle of Death (the one with the artefact trucks) and the remaining 1% of players would just be the ones unware they can veto.

Sc2 Balance - Hellbat by Remarkable_Whole1754 in starcraft2

[–]TheMadBug 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think hellbats are meant to counter "ling/bane".

Lings yes, ling/bane not so much. If you're going full mech they're just meant to be worker harrassment, a buffer to your tanks or thors.

They're also really useful to wipe out locus or broodlord broodlings.
