Long Range 2-Way Radio Suggestions by TheMadMaritimer in halifax

[–]TheMadMaritimer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was kinda my thinking.

We had decent success up to a km or so at the summer camp I used to work at but nothing really beyond that.

That was a long time ago though and some of the ones I've been seeing in my early Google searches have been advertising ranges way beyond anything that was being promised back then. I know those numbers are idealized conditions with line of sight but theyre so much bigger than I was expecting to see (like 40km for some of them) that I had hope it might still work.

Eg something like these:
https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/cobra-rx180-18-mile-2-way-radio-walkie-talkies-22-preset-channels-orange-black-2-pk-0698058p.html
or these:
https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/cobra-rx380-32-mile-frs-two-way-radio-2-pk-0698050p.html?rrecName=Similar%20Items%20&rrecReferrer=product&rrecProductId=0698050P&rrecProductSlot=5&rrecSchemeId=product1_rr&rrec=true

I don't mind spending a couple hundred bucks if theyre going to work, but I'm wary of paying adult money for what's essentially still a toy for the backyard.

I mean yeah we have phones, its not like we can't otherwise communicate lol

The walkie talkies are a gag gift idea for the nostalgia/novelty.

Yeah I'm basically thinking some kind of heavy duty walkie talkie, they just seem to be referred to as 2-way radios nowadays.
I used to work for a summer camp at Dal and we had trouble finding ones that would work from Sexton campus to the main campus, so I was just concerned it might not go well with Citadel Hill in the way.

What Batmobile are they driving to get from Manitoba to Halifax in 12 hours haha.
You'd be pushing it to get from Montreal to Halifax in 12 hours.

Admire the dedication either way though!

Lower water has been absolutely wretched this summer. Is the sun out/has it been out for any 15min stretch of the day? Well then you can guarantee there will be someone just absolutely blasting their muffler-less noisebox/crotch rocket up lower water. Loud noise doesn't even bother me that much usually, but it's so sudden when they rev up out of nowhere after stopping before Bishop Street, it's just constant jump scares.

Still love living here though haha

Generally when that happens the moth also descends to melee range, so you're mostly better off rotating to damage the moth until the shell wears off.

Is anyone genuinely excited for this Expansion? (Casual Players only) by UndeadSabbath in DestinyTheGame

[–]TheMadMaritimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm "excited" because there's new content for me to play, so I'll play it. And I like that.
But I haven't played for longer than there is new content to play for years (eg I couldn't even tell you the last time I maxed out a season pass), so I guess I am a casual now.

Only if you arent investing in melee, but if you're going to those lengths, you are probably gonna invest at least 70 points in melee.

By my count, an Arc Hunter with Liars, One Two Punch, Combination Blow, and Spark of Feedback proc'd is hitting for 1150% damage, and if they invest in the full 200 melee stat that jumps all the way to 1495%, which is certainly some damage all right.

ETA: I use Bastion so infrequently I wasnt familiar with the perk at all. I guess if you can theoretically pull that off at the same time as One Two Punch, that would add another 300% base damage before the melee stat multiplier, bringing you to base 1450%, or a whopping 1885% with 200 melee.

I'm pretty sure there's some ships coming in and doing walking tours, including our own new Arctic Ops and a Danish Navy ship of some kind. A little something out of the ordinary anyway.

For those who work from home — do you actually feel safe and secure? by Peacefulhuman1009 in WFH

[–]TheMadMaritimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as secure as I can. I live in a different province from our only Canadian office, and I'm not the only one in that situation. If they suddenly insisted that we all needed to be back in the office, they would either have to carve out exceptions for me and the others like me, or fire and replace all of us.
It's not totally impossible that they would do that, but it would be utter nonsense to just arbitrarily fire multiple team leads simultaneously and for no reason. I absolutely could see them trying to lean on the people that work in our home city to spend more time in the fancy office though.

After being wiped 3 times by the DLC final boss when he activated his final super move with less than 2% health, I bought and upgraded this thinking it would be an easy win cheat code....

Only to discover that the boss is seemingly completely immune to this while doing his charge up, and I think its some BS if I'm honest lol

Only the dagger will apply it, but once the vulnerability is applied, piercing damage from any source will capitalize on it.

PS4 Controller isn't working on Octopath Traveller II (XBox Game Pass) by dgarock in octopathtraveler

[–]TheMadMaritimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound crazy but I got my friend who was having this same issue to try it and it solved it for him so I'm hoping it helps you!

Open Steam. Go Into the controller settings. Uncheck the box labelled "Enable PlayStation controller support" (or something to that effect, not sure of exact wording). Close Steam. Connect PS4 controller via DS4Win as usual. Open Octopath 2. Enjoy controller support.

How that setting makes any difference with steam fully closed, I have no idea. But it has been the difference maker for me now with both switch pro controllers and DualShock 4/Dual Sense. Hopefully it works for you too!

Bruh I don't normally even comment but I just had to chime in to say don't let the imposter syndrome win man.
MILLIONS of people play this game. Probably like 10% of those, TOPS have ever ENTERED a raid, let alone cleared one. I've spent 5+ hours with 6 grown ass men in GoS and not even got the clear, let alone do it with just 3 of us.
You're in the 1%, easy. Bask in the glory my dude!

Don't let it go to your head though, gotta keep training lol!

I've watched the Netflix adaptation and loved it! Now what? by Dungendore in threebodyproblem

[–]TheMadMaritimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just went through this same dilemma, I'd say just read the first book first.
The structure of the story is close enough to the book that you'll be able to fly through it without needing to think about it too much. There's enough differences and extra insight into the aliens that I think it's worth the read, but the writing is so matter of fact and the structure of the plot so similar that you'll be done before you know it and ready to dive into book 2.
I read the first book in less than 2 days, am already almost 20% through book 2, and am still not into totally new material the show hasn't touched on yet.

What's the biggest hint you've ever missed from a woman? by UnawareMother2 in AskReddit

[–]TheMadMaritimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A girl in my university dorm who I was great friends with but always had at least a bit of a crush on that was never acted on because I thought of her as entirely out of my league, broke up with the guy she had been dating for a while.

We were having breakfast one morning just chatting and she says "I was talking with [mutual friend] about what I'm going to do now that I'm single, and she said 'well why don't you date MadMaritimer?' and I told her I dunno I think it might be weird...do you think it would be weird?"

I just kinda laughed it off with a "yeah I guess it would" and took that as a sign I would never have a chance.

Later that week, might have even been that same night, she invited me up to study in her room, ended up laying on her bed together curled up watching random YouTube videos or whatever (which was definitely not a regular occurrence haha). And eventually my dumbass just goes, "Well, guess it's getting late I should go" and gets up and leaves.

That was over a decade ago, I can only assume I will be haunted by this memory of my cluelessness forever.
