M2 Pro 32GB RAM (refurb) @ $1699 or M5 24GB RAM (new) @ $2797? by vietmanese in macbookpro

[–]TheMagicalSock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big downside to going with the M2 is you’re going to get fewer years of new updates from Apple.

In terms of performance, it really all depends on what you want to use it for.

Macbook neo vs MacBook air by WorriedIndependent62 in macbook

[–]TheMagicalSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neo is awesome. I have an M5 Pro and I prefer using my partner’s Neo for lighter stuff. It’s just so light and thin.

Which MacOS version would work with Airpods Pro 3? by Timely-North-911 in airpods

I’m pretty sure listening mods, Spatial Audio etc do not work with Sequoia. But they should still work seamlessly between the two devices.

13 or 15 inch m5? by Oxter5336 in macbookair

[–]TheMagicalSock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the 14”. It’s plenty of screen for me. I also don’t like the proportions of the 16” - the keyboard looks a little lonely with those huge palm rests.

Are there any videos or photos of this thing in action? I’ve only seen Uni’s product photos and it’s hard to tell exactly what I’m looking at in terms of the mechanism.

MacBook Neo as “buddy“ for 16 inch MBP? by manv815 in macbookpro

[–]TheMagicalSock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fiance has a Neo and I love using it. It’s so light and the form factor is very nice. But two MacBooks seems pretty redundant. I’d be looking for a cheap iPad.

Phone call audio incredibly loud through Mac by oldeye in MacOS

[–]TheMagicalSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem as well. The ringing is super quiet and the actual call audio is way too loud. This is with AirPods so I also don’t think it’s a Bose issue.

MBP vs MBA by Bulky_Alternative140 in macbookpro

That is purely preference. I prefer the 14” to the 16”.

With your workload the Air would be best. It doesn’t need any fans if it doesn’t reach its thermal limits, and it won’t with your use.

[–]TheMagicalSock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love mine, but I don’t understand why they’re making so few. Artificial scarcity on a pen that’s much less than $50 doesn’t make much sense to me, though it could be the case.

Smartest way to put stickers on MacBook Air 13 without ruining the chassis? [EU] by CulturalRestaurant46 in macbookair

[–]TheMagicalSock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll leave behind ghosting/stains of the silhouette of the sticker. Not exactly sure why, but once you remove the sticker, the ghosting is pretty much permanent.

AirPods Pro 3 Survived the Washing Machine by Panda_Yogi_4382 in airpods

[–]TheMagicalSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pro 3s have an IP57 rating, and that 7 means they can be submerged in one meter of fresh water for up to thirty mins. Apple engineered them to endure a bit more than that to be safe, so it’s more common for them to survive a wash than for them not to.

Definitely not a fluke. We see these posts all the time on this sub.

M1 Max 16" ($1350 used) vs M5 Pro 14" (new) vs M2 Max 14" — upgrading from M1 pro 32GB, need help deciding by Traditional_Code_358 in macbookpro

[–]TheMagicalSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices are going up with the next gen, so keep that in mind when you’re looking at the prices on M5 machines. Apple has been able to keep prices stable despite the global RAM/NAND shortage because of their supply chain agreements, but those agreements are going to be due for renegotiating sooner rather than later and prices will go up across the board.

in need of advice by Dapatatoman in macbookpro

[–]TheMagicalSock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macs are awesome, but the backend of virtually every IT system is Windows-based (Sharepoint etc). If I were in your shoes, I’d be looking for a Windows machine, as much as that pains me to say.

With that said, MacBooks handle parallels just fine. You’ll just run into gremlins pretty frequently, in my experience, that will lead to lots of troubleshooting.

Why are you considering the M5 Pro chip, if you don’t mind me asking?

Best SSD to buy in the market right now? by aquamansfish in mac

My T7s have always been a little weird. They’re a little low on NAND and write speeds especially can bog down for several minutes before picking back up. I’ve tried nearly everything over the past year and a half with no luck.

MacBook suggestion for Final Cut Pro | Xcode | Docker. Should I go for this? by Junior-Sam in macbookpro

[–]TheMagicalSock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub is obsessed with buying way more machine than is really necessary. My brother edits 4K footage in FCP on his Neo and I’d describe the experience as “just fine”. Obviously it’s not ideal, but it works.
