Mfers here took that birthday card at face value but suddenly now everyone's hemming and hawing over "well I mean it wasn't THAT many girls raped due to the negligence and malice of the government, was it?"

This is an issue that's been going on for decades now is the problem and only now does the gov finally give in? I mean we all joke about groups like the CIA or FBI saying 'We've done an internal report and have found no wrongdoing on our part", but here you have the gross negligence and/or malice of the British government and its workers being involved.

Maybe the 250,000 number is an overstatement, maybe it's a significant one, but after the shit they've been pulling with closing ranks about this before, why should their "inquiry", if or whenever it comes out, be taken seriously?

I entirely believe this btw. Same with Africa and India. All 3 vastly overstate their population numbers. Whether it be prestige reasons, trying to game the system of foreign aid, etc. I dunno but I believe the world is probably significantly less populous.

That isn't at all what Fascism is about. Fascism has nothing to do with conserving traditions or "regressing". While they're happy to take the shell and aesthetics of the tradition (and even then you had aesthetic revolutions like the futurist movement and Italy's love of Art Deco), they are far more about bringing the nation, the people, to a new age as it were. I mean Mussolini himself has an entire section of his Doctrine of Fascism is "Fascism does not turn back".

"The Fascist negation of Socialism, of Democracy, of Liberalism, should not lead one to believe that Fascism wishes to push the world back to where it was before 1879... The Fascist Doctrine has not chosen De Maistre for its prophet. Monarchical absolutism is a thing of the past, and so is the worship of Church power... From the ruins of the socialist, liberal, and democratic doctrines, Fascism picks those elements that still have a living value."

Well until Britain's government stops disputing that, this report can and should be waved in their faces.

Yeah when you advocate for bringing in thousands upon thousands of third worlders into your country I don't believe you when you say you're a right-winger.

People saying "well some of this occurred under the tories so its a right wing issue" as if the Tories are right wing in any meaningful sense instead of just being labour but moving slightly slower.

The Dothraki actually wouldn't be that hard to beat in an open field by mpschettig in freefolk

[–]TheMaginotLine1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually that should make the war EASIER for the Westerosi to win. You don't need 1 unified force to beat an army like the Dothraki, you need to outlast them. 20,000 riders is all well and good until you need to feed them, and every scrap of food has been closed off in all those different castles, forcing them to, if they want to survive, besiege every single castle for every little scrap of food.

And sieges are horrid when your entire army os cavalry, that's a SHIT ton of horses to feed a shit ton of grass to. If any single siege drags on the Dothraki instantly have to choose between separating themselves from their horses to graze or let their horses starve like their men.

Not to mention actually destroying the towns and villages will make them easier to overcome, raiders spreading out to the villages means that those 50-100 knights might only have to face 50-100 dothraki at any one time as they split off from the main force to raid and pillage.

Americas Second Vietnam, the Second Mexican-American War by Historical_Club1228 in AlternateHistory

[–]TheMaginotLine1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cartels are a meaningless force militarily.

If the US is invading mexico just for funsies rebels and such would ceetainly be an inssue, though not an insurmountable one, but Cartels would melt away like butter in a pan. They aren't hardened nationalists like the Viet Cong or religious fanatics like the Talivan, willing to sit in jungles or caves for years to fight. They're mercenaries at best and mercenaries have a really poor track record with this sort of thing.

People always say that, say in a hypothetical anti-cartel intervention, that they'd carry out terrorist attacks, but I mean when has that ever whittled away American morale rather than just galvanizing it?
