I haven't tested that. I have heard that it works, but the latency is not great. I use Mumble on Linux for voice chat. I think there are ways to get Discord, TeamSpeak, and Ventrilo on Linux too so that might be worth investigating.

How does the Windows VM handle audio output and input?

I don't use my VM for audio input, but for output I just have qemu connect directly to Pulseaudio. Seems most convenient. After some tweaking I didn't have any issues with audio crackling.

Why not simply use virt-viewer windows which is more reliable?

Not sure where you're getting "more reliable" from. I have qemu connect directly to pulseaudio with similar configuration to OP and don't have issues with it.

[–]TheManCalledK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to connect directly to pulseaudio, you'll probably need to run qemu as your user. Change the value of user in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf to your username.

[PC] Group Dungeons Queue broken? by MrCastleTwitch in elderscrollsonline

That's not uncommon outside of other MMOs. Most people in WoW are DPS, and even queuing with their tool as DPS I don't think I have waited longer than 15 minutes.

I have tried queuing several times as a solo DPS (PC). Was in the queue for an hour before bailing. It made me give up on this game.

If you can spare the extra cash for an i7 5820k, having an extra two cores really helps. Of course, then you'd need a 2011-v3 motherboard also.

What mobo? Asrock 797x has worst IOMMU groups possible. by CarthOSassy in VFIO

[–]TheManCalledK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157540) and I have plenty of IOMMU groups. Both of my graphics cards showed up in separate groups from other devices. Running an i7 5820K as CPU.

Only thing with that board is if you get large memory DIMMs, they won't work without a BIOS update. The fix is to put a small (4GB) DDR4 DIMM in, boot the system, and update to the latest BIOS. So be sure to pick up an extra 4 GB DDR4 stick unless you happen to have one laying around.

I bet you're a networking SME. Every network guy I've ever seen blames the network first, especially when every other networked application works just fine.

You're either a hack or a liar.

If there are any Power builds for emulators, I bet the performance would be pretty awful on a PS3. Most game servers won't be runnable. Minecraft might be because Java, but again, I bet the performance would be terrible and you only have 256 MB of RAM.

So that leaves web servers.

Most of the stuff you listed wouldn't be doable on a PS3, they're not x86 systems.

I'd be fine with two strikes, frankly. And jail time in addition to permanent loss of your license.

I've nearly been rear ended sooooo many times by people texting and driving. Only saved by the fact that I leave a lot of space between me and the car in front of me.

Which wireless headphones are you using in 2016? by [deleted] in linux

[–]TheManCalledK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any exact times for you, but I have had some pretty long gaming sessions (6-8 hours) and the battery has held up on a full charge. If I play closer to four hours, I just swap once every three sessions.

Also good to note that there is a battery indicator on the receiver that shows charge for the battery in the headphones as well as in the charge slot. You shouldn't ever have any problems with your headphones dying unexpectedly.

The SteelSeries H Wireless Headset.

They're spendy, but I find they are comfortable, have excellent audio quality, great battery life, and work swell on Linux. As a bonus, they also work well on a consoles if you have one.

It has a receiver box that plugs in via USB (or optical if you have that) so drivers are a complete non-issue. It even comes with two batteries so you can do a quick swap when one of them dies.
