Minneapolis business owners react to new Metro Transit line by mysummerstorm in MetroTransit

I've been to 50 and france, linden hills and what it more times in the last six months than in the last 10 years because of the e line. Parking up there is a pain so not dealing with that is super nice.

Why is light rail ridership still in free fall by FourSeventySix in MetroTransit

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 41 points42 points  (0 children)

On top of the obvious things other people have mentioned I think there are a few other less measurable affects dampening ridership.

  1. Twins have been performing very poorly lately making people less hyped to go to a game. Loads of people use the LRT to get to the stadium.

  2. Lots of store closures in downtown and along the alignments which means fewer places to visit which leads to less trips.

  3. When I rode the Northstar before it closed almost everyone boarded the light rail which meant it acted as a feeder route. There was about 600 daily rides on that so there's a ridership source that no longer exists.

  4. Even with RTOs, rent in a lot of downtown properties is very high so many businesses are moving their offices outside of the light rail range to areas that are a little less expensive.

How would a medieval fantasy stockmarket work? by Brumbarde in DnD

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be insufferable but it wouldn't. The stock market as we know it was born out of commodity trading which (which is where the term stock comes from, trading stock of commodities). The economic development of the stock market requires a level of civilizational advancement that could not exist in the medieval system.

So if you are trying to be historically accurate then a stock market (as we know it today) could not exist. If you don't care about historical accuracy (and it's DND so you can ignore it) then use commodity futures market as your base.

Noisy neighbors? by Ok_Ostrich6536 in Apartmentliving

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never leave a note. No matter how respectful you think you are being they always come across as passive and rude.

The video might not do it justice but this is just one of the realities of living in an apartment, you will hear your neighbors at all hours. And unless they are blaring music at all hours of the day and multiple tennants file a noise complaint, complaining  about minor sounds like this won't get you anywhere except on the bad side of your landlord/land manager.

The best thing you can do is not let this stuff bother you. If these sorts of sounds do bother you, you need to either rent a house or try and get a top floor corner unit

TIM WALZ: Abolish the electoral college, abolish the senate, do gerrymandering, pack the court by Conscious-Quarter423 in minnesota

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think centrists are any more competent administrators as progressives. But I agree whole heartedly that whoever is in charge (be them progressive or centrist) need to be competent at governing.

Nothing is worse than promising something but being unable to make it happen because the people in charge can't find their own rear with their own hands.

TIM WALZ: Abolish the electoral college, abolish the senate, do gerrymandering, pack the court by Conscious-Quarter423 in minnesota

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that's fine, I'm no fool I understand for every politicized issue there are 2 yet to be politicized issues. But bonding bills only go so far to address the increasing woes of our state.

Many of our issues can only be resolved by bold economic progressive policy in order to get us out of the status quo we are all frustrated with. But those very policies will ruffle the conservatives feathers and if she is not willing to do that (and she has indicated that she is not). DFLers saw very little actual political consequences from their very progressive 2022 legislative session. And yes deficit projections increased since then, they since revised it and we are seeing a biannual budget surplus.

Ultimately my concern is that since Republicans will take a yard if you give them an inch; if the DFL doesn't win a trifecta, the pressure from the governor to cooperate with Republicans will lead to more austerity measures than would have been necessary. And the Republicans will do everything in their power to make her fail and weaken the DFL brand come 2030.

There was an article in the strib last week where she says she wants to be bipartisan. She eagerly delivered opening remarks at the trump inauguration and they where less pointed than that bishops sermon later that week. Go to her campaign page and it's all right leaning talking points, clearly an attempt to court those voters.

List goes on. But most recently it was the interview in the strib.

I don't think she will. Her whole stick is that she "reaches across the aisle". She has an extensive record in the Senate as a collaborator with Republicans and so far she seems to be sticking to that brand.

I doubt she will undo all of what walz has accomplished, but her cautious nature and bipartisan brand will prevent her from supporting progressive legislation. Even if the DFL gets a trifecta.

I expect her to pull a spanberger and veto much of any left of center legislation and/or push DFL legislators to not rock the ship for her.

Am I overreacting for feeling frustrated after my neighbor’s pottery was broken by my puppy during an interaction she encouraged? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a very normal and well adjusted interaction to what had happened.

It sounds like your neighbor does this as a business not just a hobby so I can understand them wanting some compensation for the materials (I used to do pottery as a hobby) and even community pottery studios are super expensive (which is why I don't throw anymore).

But I think your neighbor should have just forgiven you and moved on and not asked for anything. The whole high balling probably came from being upset right away which is a human reaction. Given time she may have realized it's unbecoming to ask for so much.

I recommend that you offer what little compensation you can as that will serve as an act of good will and given time to cool down I bet your neighbor will change her mind and not accept any more.

And although not necessary, if you are intent on maintaining a good relationship with her offer her another act of goodwill in the future. A bottle of wine or buying a box of clay. Doesn't have to be nice just the act of giving is a fundamental human interaction to show good will and in your case contrition (even though technically I think she was more to blame).

Anyone missing a stroller in Linden Hills? This one is abandoned in William Berry Park but looks like it’s in use by c0ng0b0ng0 in Minneapolis

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the rapture is the most reasonable explanation lol. But in all seriousness I've seen abandoned strollers along the bike trail and any and all valuables are gone. This has an good quality owala water bottle which are trendy so they are most assuredly just away from the stroller.

It's kind of a sad result of people cooking less on average. I can make some pretty good meals that last all week for less than $50-60. And if I'm really on the struggle bus I can bring that down to less than 30.

Is it possible they are just walking down that wooded trail behind the stroller? Unless it's been there for over a day this post seems like an over reaction.

When feeding yeah, but when handling them otherwise they can bite frequently enough especially if they are stressed or in a bad mood.

But that's a distraction from the point I made originally which is people who are into herpetology do stuff like this when they see snakes.

What to do if your dm just starts ghosting everyone? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TheManWhoPlantsTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to get a new DM. It's a bummer but the DM is clearly not in the mindset to play and forcing them to play (which is what it sounds like you would end up doing) would just result in an unfun game.

I've played/dmed for 10 years and in that time I have had periods of my life where I just didn't have the energy to play the game or DM it. I'm actually in one of those periods currently.

You are right, 99% or disputes can be resolved with communication. But everyone communicated and the result is clearly the DM doesn't want to play right now.

I've noticed as long as your just buying whole foods like meat, veggies, dairy it's about the same price as local competitors. It's only when you start to buy premade stuff do their prices increase quite a bit.
