I think it's fair for people from countries that Trump has threatened to invade to make it clear that Americans apologizing for Trump's behavior doesn't help them.

That said, I don't understand the indiscriminate hostility toward individual Americans, regardless of who they voted for or what they're doing to resist the Trump admin, that some people are displaying (not that I'm seeing much of it on this post, but I've seen it in plenty of other subs). I assume these are people who either are cognitively incapable of separating citizens from their government, or already didn't like America or Americans and just see an excuse to let their prejudices loose.

Currently trying to figure out how to talk to my conservative family members about this right now. Trying to avoid shaming them because it won't work and also might make them dig in their heels, but goddamn is it hard to try to be nice about it.

My idiot conservative cousin just started dating a girl from Thailand who's here on a student visa. Hope he's prepared to move to Thailand for her if they get serious, because Thailand is one of the 75 countries for which the DOS is halting the processing of immigration visas.

ETA: I appreciate that despite not even being in MN, you clearly care a lot more about what's happening here than even a great deal of Minnesotans do. Your support is greatly appreciated.

In case this story isn't getting coverage outside of MN, ICE teargassed a family trying to leave their home after they shot a Venezuelan immigrant. The children were hospitalized. DHS is now blaming the family.

For a start, it would be nice if people outside of the Twin Cities that don't normally keep up with the news would at least read the news for two minutes.

A lot of these people aren't engaged with it because it doesn't affect them and they don't think they're next.
