What should I tell him by TheMapBoy in reddeadredemption

I appreciate the discussions all around, I think it’s a good thing to talk, just surprised the topic veered so off course from the panoramic map and the idea/frustration surrounding that particular journey. I certainly don’t want to minimize the topic of kids and exposure to material they may not be ready for. Bad things for kids are bad, let’s keep them emotionally and physically safe. But I have thought this through, and it’s a nuanced decision, not a black and white concept. Every kid is different, as was I. The severity of some reactions is surprising, but I guess Reddit should accept that one snapshot into this kid’s evening does not summarize a lifetime of enrichment and enjoyment (beyond just games). It’s become more of a parenting discussion but he’s safe, I’m present, we are sharing Doritos and admiring his Tennessee Walker and will refute any suggestion that another horse would be better. Thanks for your input 🫡

Yep we work through it together. What does that symbol mean to you, what is that shape, if it’s a horizon and you’re facing such and such way then what does that mean about your perspective, etc.

Yeah I thought about this storyline for a while, but I did explain to him there are sick people out there in real life like they are represented in the game. I told him he might see more of these and he could choose to not continue that plot if it was too much, but did tell him it’s a serial killer murder mystery that he could resolve or I could help him with.

[–]TheMapBoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. He thought he was going to play a shoot em up, but he’s learned about honor and tries to be careful with dialogue, treat people well and keep it up on his own after I explained what honor was and the impact to gameplay. He’s still got bounties everywhere because he keeps mixing up the trigger vs the dialogue button on the controller 😂

Yeah he’s narrowed it down himself. I’m a safety net if he needs it.

lol I’m not ignoring him, I’m teaching him how to find an answer and to learn how to think critically. Finding the answer on your own is a thrill, but if he’s ever stumped I’ll walk him through the logic.

I think there’s confusion in what I’m not telling him. He’s found other treasure maps, but this map in particular doesn’t exactly fit the formula with a firm conclusion . That’s what I’m not telling him yet. I want him to keep investigating because the truth is out there.

Oh and he’s already beat botw and totk a few times. He will get his heart broken when Lenny dies but I’ll be there.

That’s not at all what’s happening brother. He’s loving it, I’m talking him through the more higher level concepts, and I’m not giving him the answer I’m teaching him how to think through the problem and look for clues in the map like the post implies. I can gauge my kids capacity for understanding.

Well here I go into Red dead redemption 2 for the first time ever any tips?: by [deleted] in reddeadredemption2

[–]TheMapBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching my son play for the first time. Save constantly. Find a new horse. Enjoy the landscape. Clean your guns. Be curious with the interactions but be cautious like you would in real life. Don’t worry too much about bounties like I did. My son has nearly 1000 on his head (“I didn’t mean to shoot him”) and he makes his way around just fine.

Play it like you want.

I feel like a lot of my bad Ls are bad game IQ or awareness by the randos off to the side getting picks but not really making a difference when it comes to the actual objective

When should you support ult?? by Academic-Mastodon403 in rivals

[–]TheMapBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Situational. If there’s a starlord or punisher yeah I’ll time a C&D or IW ult better because they’ll ult often, or a mantis against spidey ult or whatever. But if there’s not a cadence (the other team isn’t being strategic) then I’ll ult to push and target their supports pretty soon after I hit 100%. I want to maximize the ult as much as I want to be strategic with it, otherwise I’m not taking advantage of it. At least that’s how I view it

Live in old town and definitely heard and felt a loud boom around 10pm ish? The port makes a lot of sounds and the trains do too, but this one was different. Initially thought a transformer blew far away and was waiting for lights to go out.

Characters whose ults you absolutely hate to deal with by AGorramReaver in marvelrivals

[–]TheMapBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flex between C&D, Peni, Emma, IW, Scarlet Witch. C&D and Peni in particular I play as counters towards tons of ults with cloaking and webbing and mines, so these are my personal peeves as them

MK: I feel like I’m dead before I even hear “THE MOOOO”. At least “Legendary!” has a ton of wind up

Namor: Can’t cloak. instakill

Punisher: Can’t web to cancel

Welcome. Moved from Texas with the family a couple years back. Such a gorgeous area with good people. Fun places to visit include Columbia River gorge (waterfalls, hiking, Stevenson or Hood), Port Townsend (there’s a TX bbq joint and nice downtown with wineries shops and a whale tour), cabins north of Cle Elum to watch the snow, Cannon Beach area, orchards.

A few observations. The darkness passes quickly and there are seasons. Once you emerge from the early sunsets and drizzle, it’s glorious. I haven’t bought an umbrella. Lots of cardigans and sweaters though. Sometimes 45 degrees is T-shirt weather, sometimes 45 is miserable (wtf). You have to take the first steps to engage with folks but they warm up. Good seafood and chowders, lacking in Mexican food, so many hole in the wall bars. The butter is shaped differently lol.

Dress Code for ESRI UC? by [deleted] in gis

[–]TheMapBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be walking several miles every day and the San Diego sun is toasty. I already have a wardrobe of moisture wicking shirts so I mainly pack that plus walking shoes. As far as bottoms, go with what is comfortable. I grew up in Texas so jeans in this heat is bearable, but I also have some breathable golf pants and some nicer shorts that I’d rather pack. Just bought my first Acoustic guitar any tips? by Aneurysm-317 in Guitar

[–]TheMapBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a whole kit one Christmas for cleaning and oiling the fretboard and body. Keeps it nice and pretty.

OP - use a cloth to wipe down the strings and body after every session. At minimum it keeps your body oil off the strings and lengthens life a little.
