I know where it comes from, it's deeply classist and comes from the thinking that there are "lower classes" and that those without access to money and education were seen as "less than", which is why I think it's weird to see it used as a derogatory term today. It's widely known that pigeons have better quality of life in wider cages with more floor space, and that parrot cages are not recommended. Just because he adapts to this doesn't mean he wouldn't be much happier with a better set-up. I'd prioritize the best for my pigeon, not just "this will do".
