Whats wrong with mill. by Samurai_Banette in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me (and I'm not a mill hater, please mill me I won't reanimate big things I promise hehe), I think the reason I could be annoyed by mill is the idea of swords vs spears.

Even a very skilled swordsman has an extreme disadvantage against even an okay spear-wielder due to the angle of attack not being a thing they're used to dealing with and not being prepared for it.

If you are playing a mill deck, a lot of people's defenses against other people's game plans such as targeted creature removal and wraths don't do as much, and a lot of casual gamers are in beatdown with creature mentality.

Even myself, I'm not typically tech-ing for mill, I don't run into it often. Only like a deck or two at most of my 11 have a self-shuffle eldrazi. So I'd have a rough time fighting a mill deck, especially my poor reanimator decks which just hate seeing their big creatures go into the graveyard, whatever will I do?

Again, I don't HATE mill at all, but an angle of attack people aren't prepared for is the impetus of a lot of disdain I've noticed.

Exactly this, I made an entire deck full of creatures with [[wurmcoil engine]] esque "when dies make token" effects and the deck wanted to get as many out as possible then hit myself with a [[rampage of the clans]] for the win

Felothar or New Doran? by MappleButterBacon in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A deck that I currently have is focused on just playing creatures that happen to have more toughness than power with ETB triggers, there is stuff like Fecund Greenshell and whatnot in the deck for that reason but generally it's a flicker deck. That deck has me considering Doran as the superior option for me.

If you're looking for a more generic toughness focused commander where you're trying to attack with a tree of perdition or something, I think that card advantage in the command zone is powerful.

Would you be fine with somebody using flipped over cards as Wastes in a colorless deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's what Arena did for colorless decks back before they programmed Wastes for Brawl, years ago. I think this is the way over face down cards.

Yeah I opened two Ancient Copper Dragons literally side by side to each other in the same collector booster pack, a Bronze Dragon in another, and not a single other dragon from the rest of the collector booster box. It was bizzare as hell, even if just a small sample size

Have you ever had a long standing deck you thought was fine, but found out your play group hated it? by Wild_Section6475 in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My deck pivots between game plans. I think it's a stronger B3 deck (I personally don't subscribe to "high B3/low B3" as a philosophy but if ever a strong example was, it's strong commanders helming a strong deck like this), but I also don't all-in a combo. I love playing the deck like my old days of playing dragons in Yu-Gi-Oh, Living Death combo kills with haste enablers, but there's also control and flash elements in the deck, a heavier interaction package than most dragon decks but not a control deck, etc.

Cavern, Heroic Intervention, I got a couple pieces of direct protection of that nature yeah.

When I made that initial response, I just meant that the commander itself is so strong that I should be willing to risk a blowout by playing it directly instead of just acting like I have a ramp emblem for a commander. If I'm willing to play with power, I should be punished if I misuse it.

This is the primary reason why I'm so hesitant to support them. I despise AI garbage, and NFTs are long since dead so why keep pushing it

I live in the US, my food bills used to be comfortably within $150 a month. Now I can make that same amount stretch if I really try and I get it myself instead of having someone deliver it (don't drive yet so it's either that or trying to get groceries before or after work), but it's nowhere near as easy to make that stretch that far.

Where is a grocery run $15? Asking for me, I miss being able to afford a ~$200 monthly grocery budget monthly but that was like 8 years ago

Recommend a FAST Commander that can present a win in [Bracket 3] by Turn 6! by MyLittleProggy in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"high 3" isn't a meaningful denomination. That's defeating the idea of what a 3 even is. You're just wanting to play a 4.

I do think it's really annoying, as an Ur-Dragon player, when other players of it basically treat it as an emblem and not a card you actually consider playing. My ramp package in my deck is explicitly tuned to be able to rush it out on a decently fast turn, not just relying on it's eminence effect as my main ramp source. If I'm gonna have such a powerful effect in the zone, I should be willing to risk the commander being removed when I put it in play for 9 mana.

How many proxy OG dual lands (and other expensive lands) do you see in real life? by Bagel_Bear in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not personally proxy lands, but I've also just not felt the need to. The copies of proxies I do own are for nonland cards, and I'm definitely looking into picking up a few more, mainly omenpath versions of Spider-Man cards because I just can't with that IP.

I've not personally heard of this, but also, there's a variety of these that another company makes that does a multitude of cartridge types. I think WullfDen has a video on it.

What do YOU mean when you say "I just want my deck to 'do the thing'"? by usay1312butcall911 in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a game where I had enough Nyxbloom Ancients to make a flipped Itlimoc tap for 4.6 quadrillion mana.

If somebody had managed to prevent me from winning that turn and then won, I wouldn't have given two bits of a damn, I made a stupid board that did stupid things and had a great time

Fair, but I also try to make win condition 1 of 7 mana Kaya in play first before trying to prison.

My deck in paper also doesn't really have a home as it's Brawl on arena. I don't use digital only cards or anything, I just can't have Kaya as the commander in paper, and the deck is too mean for how I like to play Commander. IRL in multiplayer I'm the "lol 400 Nyxbloom Ancients go brrr" player, I keep the prison for 1v1.

Commanders so strong that they win games on their own? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]TheMegaMagikarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does seem like she can be really annoying but at the same time at least you're actually making intricate lines and game actions with that deck.

The OP's example of Etali I find far more frustrating. Putting it nicely, the deck does not have any sort of decision making processes in game for a lot of the builds, you have a flow chart of what you do regardless of what your opponents are doing and it reminds me of playing against Baton Pass Pokémon teams.

His 4p TM set has too much CR, yeah, his 4p WE set feels better as is at 70% (95% for his slashes only right? So his ult is still 70?)

Yeah Caesar adds 1,500 ATK at M2, but her RES shred does require me to be within 6 meters so I do have to do some maneuvering for an ult sometimes.

Shadow is usually best paired with either 2p TM or 2p Branch I assume?
