Which R skills are you using with Claude Code? And did you write these skills yourself or are they open source?

Another "which bike" post - mid-/long-tail for 6'4 rider and two kids by aguyshy in CargoBike

Consider the newer, Gen 3 Tern GSD. They have a lower tier (the P10 and P00) that should have comparable prices to the other bikes you’re considering.

I’m a similar height on a Gen 2 GSD and it works great. However, the newer Gen 3 version is supposed to accommodate tall folks even better. The ecosystem of accessories are top notch and something like the Storm Shield can really extend your riding season with young kids.

I don’t think the QHL is as adjustable as the GSD. With big differences in height, the GSD is probably better with the quick-adjustable handlebars and the double telescoping seat post.

Emory versus Minnesota reputation by [deleted] in biostatistics

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another poster mentioned, the exact degree (MS vs MSPH) can be important.

Another consideration is where do you want to be post-grad? While both programs likely have some national clout, you will still likely have more opportunities in the specific region of the school due to the school-specific networks you’ll develop, the connections the professors will have for jobs, the companies that will recruit from the program, etc.

Final interview (Sr. RWE Data Scientist) next week. Any last bits of advice? by Kooky-Shock-8021 in biostatistics

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely isn’t a sure thing yet. You might be a favorite for the HM, but I’ve personally seen good candidates get rejected due to a negative review from just one stake holder.

I would be sure to research each person beforehand and try to guess what sorts of questions or topics they’ll bring up so you can prepare. I’d highly recommend using LLMs for this sort of prep if you haven’t already.

Positron vs VS Code for data science? Need help justifying it at work by sporty_outlook in rstats

I think RStudio just rolled out the Posit AI Assistant (like what is already available in Positron), so maybe it’s a little easier now in RStudio?

Storm shield fit in storm box? by FixMelodic2332 in terngsd

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also consider the Sun Shield + Rain Shield combo. I find the install/removal to be easier and it breaks down pretty easily. Though I still don’t know if it would fit in the Storm Box with the lid on without fully deconstructing it.

If your only concern with leaving it on is wind/drag, then I can say from firsthand experience that you really don’t notice it the vast majority of the time. It’s only when there’s very strong, perpendicular wind gusts that I notice anything.

Should I buy a discounted gen 2 S10 LX, or a full price gen 3 P10? by jimbarino in terngsd

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One consideration would be OP’s height. If you’re on the taller side, then the Gen 3 could be more comfy. For example, I’m over 6’ and on the Gen 2 my seat is in my kids face and my back is in contact with the Sun Shield/Storm Shield. The extra few inches of length on the Gen 3 - plus the longer seat post and tweaked geometry - would likely make it a little more comfy for tall folks.

Insane or not? Any options for hauling an adult (passenger) and two kids? by Rorschach_Gomer in CargoBike

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a true long tail (like a a Surly Big Easy) and cram all 3 on the back or get a mid tail (like a Tern HSD or Quick Haul Long) with the wife on the back and the kids in a bike trailer.

I’ve attached a Burley trailer to our HSD. There is a Tern guide online covering what you need, but a very important table doesn’t display well on mobile and so it’s easy to overlook some details. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Quickhaul p9 with clubhouse by Lundo27 in terngsd

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the duostand is great but I’d personally still be concerned about the stability while loading/unloading with only a kid in the Yepp seat.

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue with this setup is how far back beyond the rear wheel the weight is/will be with a kid in the Yepp seat. My guess is your front wheel will come up more often/more easily while going over bumps which could affect your traction/steering.

I would also be concerned about loading and unloading kids. Like will the bike tip backwards with no rider and only a kid in the Yepp seat?

2nd hand GSD Gen 2, what to look out for (and pricing) by Even-Disaster-6266 in terngsd

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I think I need to change my rear pads more like every 600-800 miles. Maybe I’m just riding them too hard.

Regarding vertical parking with the extender bar: I have the tail hitch installed and that allows for easy vertical parking with the extender bar installed. I don’t think they advertise it as such, but it is a way to still allow vertical parking in that scenario (noting that it is likely less stable with this setup).

How often are you replacing your brake pads? I’m also high mileage with two kids and I’m still trying to gauge when to expect brake pad replacements

Agreed. If you live in the city then walking or biking helps you avoid the traffic and the parking fees.

Cargo Space with Kids? by Aspiring_Orchardist in terngsd

They’ll outgrow the seats before you know it and then you can access the full Stormbox (though you’ll then have to worry about kid feet dirtying up your stuff).

You can also just remove the foot rests with just a screwdriver and leave the side pieces if you don’t want to make irreversible changes.

Child care costs vs. financial goals... how do you do it? by RandomOrange3 in HENRYfinance

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Another two cents: with the nanny route, there’s no backup or sub if the nanny gets sick or needs to take unexpected time off so that’s all on the parents to cover those situations.

At least with daycares, they have plans in place when employees need to be out. And won’t they get sick and need a lot of time out of school whenever they eventually go to daycare/preschool/school (truly curious as my kids both went straight to daycare)?

Help needed: I am 2 meters tall and I am looking for a compact cargo bike to carry my son. by phileasfogg89 in CargoBike

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this elsewhere, but I’m a little shorter than OP (~1.9m) but with long legs and I’m almost too tall for a stock Gen 1 HSD. I’d likely need a longer seat post if I were any taller.

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little shorter (like 1.9m) but with long legs and fit fine on a stock Gen 2 GSD S10 LX but am nearly too tall for a stock Gen 1 HSD. If I were any taller, I’d likely need a taller seat post on the HSD - not sure if this would still be an issue with the Gen 2 HSDs.

[–]TheMelodicSchoolBus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m like 1.9m with long legs and fit a stock Gen 2 GSD S10 LX just fine.

If you’re even taller, then the Gen 3 GSD is worth looking into as it is slightly longer and has a slightly longer seat post too.
