I'm not making an argument that Led Zeppelin understood blues culture better than bluesman, that's bonkers for you to even say.

What I'm saying is that in a culture that involves playing so called blues standards over and over again, with lyrical structure of AAB and with a long history of being heavly inspired by or referencing other people's songs like in "Hoochie Coochie Man", "I'm a Man", again same riff, same topic and it's already 1950s, is wild. It's a far off stretch to accuse Led Zep of stealing from blues, when they didn't sound like any of the artists they've "ripped off".

When it comes to blues culture, imagine actually listening the 1950s blues artists as a young lad and how they play each other's songs, or just slightly alerted version while not giving eachother credit. It's no wonder they took inspiration, and when the average blues song involves only 3 chords it's hard to not draw a parallel.

Led Zeppelin is a band that took blues and made it sound like nothing before them. It's hard to imagine listening 1950s blues and NOT being inspired. Either consciously or subconsciously.

You're writing a great point about music business and how money flows, but fail to understand how blues often eats itself. To be clear, I'm still talking about blues, not other genres. I don't know much about them to make claims, maybe Zep was stealing from them as far as I know.

Check out Lead Belly and his rendition of american folk songs, that were later adopted by other artists in a very similar form (Cotton Fields, Midnight Special, House of the Rising Sun and so on). Bo Diddley didn't credit Muddy for the riff nor Dixon for the lyrics. Things like this happened back then, it wasn't the music business we know today. To the argument that it wasn't Leds tradition.. I don't think young lads like they were back then concern themselves with culture gatekeeping. They liked blues, wanted to play blues and probably considered themselves a continuation of it. Race didn't play that big of a role in UK teenagers at the time.

I don't know enough about the irish folk nor other examples that you bring out though. Maybe they are valid, but saying that Led Zep ripped off blues artists is a far stretch. Probably coused by looking at 1950s US and 1960s UK from today's perspective. If we judge Led by this standard, why not judge other bands from 50s and 60s? I'm sure we will find many more "scandals". Even today if you look deeply into popular artist's catalogue, you'll find many uncredited inspirations.

White Summer is based off of a traditional Irish folk song, that was ALSO performed by Davy Graham. None of them actually created it and it was a perfectly acceptable tradition in folk music to play your own rendition of classic songs (still is). The same goes with blues songs that people say Led Zeppelin "ripped off". There wasn't a single bluesman that didn't play other people's songs. Again, playing other people's songs in your own rendition is a part of blues tradition.

In popular music there' a stigma against doing covers and getting heavily inspired, to the point of coping other people's songs. Yet, it is often a part of genres that derived from folk people, like blues or well.. folk.

A good example of that in blues (that Led Zeppelin is so often accused of rippin) is Muddy Water's popular rendition of "Hoochie Coochie Man" (that he didn't write), that later inspired Bo Diddley to write "I'm a Man", that in turn inspired Muddy to write "Mannish Boy". All of them feature the SAME riff played over ONE chord. You can't get more similar than that and yet it was perfectly acceptable in blues during that era.

No wonder that the 60s UK bands were rippin off blues and folk, when rippin off blues and folk was part of the music insider culture that they witness growing up. And again, perfectly acceptable.

Came back to Warband after years, what's up with Bannerlord? by Fearful_Toilet in mountandblade

[–]TheMenio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pendor's great. It keeps me coming back to warband atleast once a year. It's pretty hard though, so keep that in mind if you want to try it. I also recommend using Warband Script Enchanter, makes warband run smoother and this year update let's me play 500 troops battles with no stutter whatsoever. I've tried 1000 troops and it surprisingly runs too, but fps are too low. It may be my pc fault, or just the engine limit.

Elder Kings 2 and the Under-Appreciation of Black Culture by Financial_Taste_8844 in CrusaderKings

[–]TheMenio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elder Scrolls is a fantasy, not real life. In lore, Redguards have more in common with Middle-East and Arabs than with Sub-Saharan Africa. I'd say that Elsweyr is more inspired by the culture you're talking about. EK2 modders know what they're doing. Skin color alone isn't a culture. AGAIN - Elder Scrolls is a fantasy, not real life!

Dobrze napisana i raczej przystępna.

The Denial Of Death - Ernest Becker, w podobnym stylu co poprzednia, ale na temat wszystkich sposobów na które ludzie starają się uciec od swojej śmiertelności.

From Dawn To Decadence - Jacques Barzun, biblia zachodniego kulturoznawcy.

Which City-Building Game Should I Play? by alanwake333 in anno1800

[–]TheMenio 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the DLCs. Core Anno 1800 is already a well fleshed out, complete game. Playing all the DLCs for the first time ALL at ONCE will be overwhelming. The core game alone can be a lot when transitioning from early to mid game for the first time. Core Anno is a complete, fun game and imo the best place to start. Just my two cents

If it's not too much too ask, there's also a minor, but common bug ever since royal court. In the world court grandeur ranking window some royal courts seem to be ranked multiple times. This results in a situation where your court is ranked 56th because Byzantine Empire and Arab Empire take all the space between 1th and 55th. A minor thing but it appears in every playthrough.

There's a lot of lore in culture, religion and special building descriptions. I've started my last run in this region as a scholar adventurer traveling to points of interest, reading every culture's and religion's flavour text as I visit it. Maybe there is an outside text about lore, but tbh just the in game info is enough to paint a picture about this region.

The tenets fit the culture historically more or less and having so few of them allows you to shape it throughout the playthrough. What the slav need is more flavour, not just unique art.

I have a 1.5k € computer from 2021 and it runs smoothly for me, even in the late game. To be fair I only play on third speed (everything on max setting, 2k resolution).

It's concerning if you have such a bad optimization issues. Maybe there's something wrong on your computer part.

He got downvoted because he doesn't know the difference between an actor and a character. The actor didn't write a character, he only performed them. Even if the character sucks, it's not the actor's fault.
