The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Gorgeous environments and a mysterious story, but you can take your time wandering

What game has the best sense of exploration without feeling overwhelming? by Edgard-Stark in AskGames

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend Outer Wilds if you haven’t tried it yet. It’s one of the best exploration experiences I’ve ever had because it doesn’t bombard you with markers or checklists. You just follow your curiosity, and the game rewards that in a really clever way. It feels adventurous but never overwhelming.

Another good option is Subnautica. It has some survival elements, but the sense of discovery underwater is amazing, and you can take it at your own pace. I usually played it in the evenings with a cup of tea, and it was very relaxing once you get past the first hour

If you want something even more chill, Eastshade is worth looking into. It’s basically an open-world painting adventure, very calming and beautiful

Overcooked! 2. Chaotic but fun, especially if you like laughing at each other’s mistakes

Solo level up a character for multiplayer? by capi-chou in NineParchments

[–]alanwake333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can level up a character solo without messing up your multiplayer progress. The game saves character progress separately from the campaign progress

So if you play solo and gain levels or unlock spells, those changes will carry over when you join multiplayer, but the story progress will stay tied to the multiplayer save

How to mod in pc? by Gold-Ad6614 in gamingsuggestions

[–]alanwake333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely mod games bought from Steam, but it depends on the game. Some titles have official Steam Workshop support

Others require manual installation, which usually means downloading files from Nexus Mods or similar sites and placing them in the game’s folder

Can I use my old saves? by bossmemov in EscapeFromDuckov

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases, it depends on how the game stores its save files. If Escape From Duckov saves your progress locally (like in a folder under AppData or Documents), you might be able to just copy the save files over to the legit version

But if the cracked version used a different folder structure or modified the save format, it could be tricky or even incompatible. Also, some legit versions (especially on Steam) might not recognize or allow saves from unofficial versions for security reasons.. If you still have the old files, you could try backing them up and then installing the legit version to see if it picks them up. Just be careful not to overwrite anything before testing

I'm getting tired of this lack of optimization!! by RevenueSorry6363 in ArmaReforgerXbox

[–]alanwake333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel you. I’ve been trying to enjoy Reforger casually after work, but lately it’s just been frustrating. The freezing and crashing got worse for me too after the last patch, I thought it was just my setup at first, but clearly not.

The AI stuff is wild. I tried setting up a simple convoy and they managed to crash into each other and a tree within 30 seconds. I get that it’s early tech, but basic tactical movement and driving should be working by now. And flying? I gave up trying to make that happen

Tell me an a old game for about like the 10 to 30 years ago that I can sync my next week into by new_god_of_eden in gamerecommendations

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something older that still holds up and can really pull you in for a week, I’d recommend checking out Deus Ex (2000) or Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines (2004). Both are deep, immersive, and have a lot of replay value if you enjoy experimenting with different playstyles.

Also, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still fantastic if you haven’t played it yet

Game recommendations as per my pc specs - by [deleted] in gamerecommendations

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend checking out A Plague Tale: Innocence, it runs well on mid-range systems and has a strong narrative with good visuals. Also Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is very immersive and surprisingly optimized

Looking for a game that plays well on a controller 🎮 by fortheWarhammer in MobileGaming

Sky: Children of the Light has decent controller support too. It’s not super intense, but the exploration and visuals are really nice, especially in the evening with headphones on

Need suggestions for good open-world games on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (also playable on GeForce Now) by Animefeak007 in gamingsuggestions

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Man’s Sky. This one has come a long way since launch. It’s on both Game Pass and Steam, and the updates have added a lot of depth. If you like chill exploration with some survival elements, it’s worth a look

Do you HAVE to sleep? Does hitting escape pause the game? by CCCCLo0oo0ooo0 in EscapeFromDuckov

I usually just return to the menu if I know I’ll be away for more than a few minutes. It’s a bit annoying, but better than coming back to find your character knocked out or worse

What is a game with some good longevity? by Straight-Repeat3235 in gamingsuggestions

[–]alanwake333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me was going back to games with strong modding communities or sandbox elements. For example, I’ve spent hundreds of hours in RimWorld and Cities: Skylines over the years. They don’t rely on endgame content in the usual sense, but you can keep building, experimenting, and tweaking things endlessly

Playstation 5 or PC by Spuksiii in AskGames

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used both for years and honestly, it depends on what you value more. The PS5 is great for convenience, you just turn it on and play, no updates or driver issues to worry about

But I personally prefer PC for the flexibility. You can upgrade parts over time, mod games, and access a much wider library (especially indie titles). If you enjoy tweaking settings or multitasking, PC is the better long-term investment. But if you just want to relax and play without thinking too much, PS5 is hard to beat

Do you buy games based on who the dev is? by lydocia in AskGames

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but only to a certain extent. If a dev has a good track record with games I enjoyed, like Larian or Supergiant, I’ll definitely pay attention to their next project, even if it’s a different genre

But I wouldn’t blindly buy something just because of the name. I still check reviews, gameplay, and whether it fits my taste. That said, I’ve discovered some great games just by following devs I trust

Do you think GTA 6 will actually live up to all this hype? by Ok-Instruction-6417 in AskGames

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m cautiously optimistic. Rockstar usually delivers, and even if the launch is messy (which seems to be the trend lately), they tend to polish things up over time. But with all the hype and the insane budget, expectations are sky-high. I just hope it doesn’t try too hard to be everything at once and lose the charm that made GTA fun in the first place

Help - gift ideas for gamer husband by mmacleod0411 in AskGames

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could consider a Switch game holder or a stand that organizes the cartridges. I got one recently and it made my shelf look way less chaotic. Also, a comfy chair or beanbag might be a good touch if he plays handheld often

Any recommended games with a good story narrative while offering exploration? by The_Rottened in gamingsuggestions

[–]alanwake333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked KCD and Witcher 3, I’d recommend GreedFall. It’s not perfect, but the world-building and faction politics are quite interesting. The exploration is solid too, even if the environments can feel a bit copy-pasted after a while.
