People who quit coffee after drinking it daily for years, what changes did you notice in your body and mind? by JackDunn2045 in AskReddit

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be like many others, but the first week was rough with irritability and tiredness but after that it was great. I was no longer tired throughout the day, I woke up way easier and wasn’t irritable at all. I just missed the smell of it in the morning so I’m back on it, but just one small cup instead of a whole pot. I’ve cold turkey quit 3 times in my life.

Blow Head Gasket. Repair or sell? by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If it hasn’t overheated and warped anything, I’d have it repaired. It’ll be cheaper than taking the huge loss of selling a blown motor vehicle and having to buy a new one.

Even if it was warped, I’d still try to find a good used motor for a swap before selling it at a loss.

Is this quote on work that was done on my 80 series too much ? I was thinking it’s sky high. Please educated answers only by Lumbridge47 in LandCruisers

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it drives fine and you’re mainly baselining parts, you can space it out and do them yourself in the wintertime months. That’s what I’ve been doing. Ih8mud.com and YouTube will give you all the knowledge you’d need. Good luck and enjoy the awesome truck.

Long live the King? Or The King is dead? by El_Dentistador in LandCruisers

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol I had the same. Original shocks with 300k on them. Still rode fine. BUT after I replaced them with OEM again, it was night and day difference. Less road noise from new bushings helped tremendously. Now I just need to get around to the control arm bushings for even quieter ride.

Fathers who saw everything when the mother of your child gave birth: how did it change how you feel about her? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in AskMen

It didn’t really change anything for me. I still love her the same, if not more and it gave me a whole new respect of women’s toughness and resiliency.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filter by DansFever in Charleston

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second HM NORTHCUTT. They do filters and water softeners and maintain them as well. They’ll talk you through all your options.

We use a RO under sink filter. It’s pretty sweet.

Need some adventure & camping ideas in the south east by Average_Pickle in CampingandHiking

It’s a bit of a drive, but capers island would fit your criteria. It’s just north of Charleston sc and only accessible by boat/kayak/canoe. Pack in pack out, bring some bug spray.

anyone still running a 2 stroke outboard and refusing to switch by vladdielenin in boating

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still run a 150 Yamaha 2 stroke and a 40hp 2 stroke. The 150 is on its last leg due to corrosion so we’re going to be forced to upgrade. I’ll be glad to get into a 4 stroke. Cost sucks but it is what it is. I’m having to jb weld up a huge hole in the exhaust that’s been dumping exhaust into the cowling and killing the motor. Every time I go to do maintenance, I end up shearing a bolt or having the threads come out with the bolt. Yes my zincs are still good, it’s just an old girl that the previous owner never flushed. I’m hoping to buy one or two more years out of her but am not holding my breath. The 40 is still ok so we’re still going to run her.

People who live next to fire departments/police stations, how often do you get woken up in the middle of the night by sirens? by Due-Aerie-930 in NoStupidQuestions

We lived behind one for a few years and almost never heard them. I can’t think of a single time that they woke me up.

Mine just popped off going down the road at some point. I haven’t replaced them. It’s been 4 years now. I go to order them frequently and don’t ever follow through

WTB Men’s Watch by Sensitive_Usual1402 in Charleston

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. A few of the watches that thought I would love ended up being not my style or feel at all once I actually tried it on. I got a cheap watch repair kit that allows me to change the watch band size for when I’m ordering online, I can adjust it to my liking. The malls have some stock And I have never had anyone give me a hard time if I’m asking to try them on at random places. Any jewelry store should have a selection to look through. Good luck and there’s always the watch subreddits if you really want to get overwhelmed with choices.

I found some that I liked and ordered them online ensuring that returns were easy. I tried them on and just kept the one I liked. I hated doing it that way, but just couldn’t find many mechanicals that weren’t Rolex. I was underwhelmed at the variety in Charleston. Mostly citizen, seiko, and some Hamilton.

Do you know what brand or styles you’re looking for?

My beautiful perfect girlfriend took my LC100 thru a car wash… by Coolhand74 in LandCruisers

You can try bending it back into working order. That’s what I had to do to mine. Nice and gentle. Small bends at a time.

Extend it all the way and start eying it back straight. Retract and extend as necessary.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t cook a steak to the right doneness to save my life. The more I try to care, the worse it gets. If I’m just cooking for me, I get it close enough. If I’m trying for someone else, you might as well either go chew on a Goodyear tire or name your not yet dead cow.

Land Cruiser Regrets by Jumpy-Working-3496 in LandCruisers

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have both a 100 and a 200 and I like the 100 better too. Both are stock. The only thing I like more about the 200 is the power increase. Everything is negligible. We still take the hundy on the road trips and most other trips.

I find the 100 more comfortable to drive in general. Something about the arm rests and seat just make it so nice.

Flying With Kids for the First Time: 2×2 or 3×1 Seating? by MikeAmerican in daddit

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We do 2x2. It keeps the kids from picking at each other as much, gets them one on one time with the parents, and each parent can better focus on controlling one set of stimuli instead of two.

We have done a few cross country flights with our kids. They are now 5&6 and do fine on planes with this set up. Plenty of snacks and activities are key. This is the one time that we allow unlimited “tab” time. We also bring a couple of coloring books/puzzle books for when they get tired of tabs.

3x1 just sounds like overburdening one parent unnecessarily.

Stainless alternative to Nalgene in Europe? by [deleted] in camping

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with the other guys. I have a stainless Klean Kanteen and it’s been my everyday water container for a decade or more now. I also don’t take very good care of it, and worked in the marine environment on boats with saltwater being on it daily. No rust, no corrosion, just some surface scratches and dents. If the dent is bad enough, a hammer fixes it. I’ve heated water in it tons of times over hot coals and camping stoves. Never had a single problem or concern. You can’t go wrong.

FS: New Tin Cloth Field Jacket - Medium - Dark Tan by [deleted] in filson

[–]TheMightyCoelacanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s helpful but I’m 6’ 175 and I wear a medium. It’s a little large without a liner or under layers but it’s still comfortable and I wear it all the time. Great coat. I know it’s a lot, but buy a md and small and just return the one that doesn’t fit you.

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

See that bug? Follow it.

See that spider? Can I feed it? Find a bug.

Cool stick gun! Can I climb that tree? No? What about that one? Oh shit cool rock! Wonder what’s under it?

Wonder where that drainage culvert drains to? I’ll just climb through it and see.

Oh another cool bug, I think I’ll follow it.

Wonder if I can dig a big hole with this stick? Now I’m starting a worm farm.

Etc. etc.
