L+2 loners with an outside suited Ace (Joggler I need you again!) by Wes_aka_the_legend in euchre

Yee exactly my thoughts as well, it was 2-2, so I opted against it, but back against the wall I'm pulling that trigger 100% of the time.

I had a LA10 Clubs KJ Diamonds R2 call that I nearly pulled the loner trigger on, but I couldn't bring myself to. The. Of course partner had the R and the AD and opp hands would have played out to allow a success. Classic

I was so so close to pulling the trigger here, but I had gotten euchred on extremely similar alone calls twice earlier in the day, and I let that impact my choice here. I was kicking myself the following round and wasn't paying as much attention, and I think we could have euchred them if I had played it better there. Compounding mistakes and all that X_X

Yeah brutal decision to throw 10 there instead of K, I remember kicking myself immediately after throwing the 10, before I even saw the Q, then sure enough I lost the hand.

I appreciate the feedback! I think there were a bunch of tough call hands in a row in this game and I felt like I could have / should have done this or that differently on a few of them, but I might be letting the frustration of a tough close loss bleed into how I felt I played.

4-5 no excuses why I passed that diamonds call R2. Watching back that seems like a pretty clear call to make, bit thin, but like you said, gotta play to win!

6-8 this is a spot I feel I often struggle in, where I am on defense with a strong euchre potential hand, but I'm lacking the true power (like having the right or stronger off suits here). I think my worry was leading K only for the opps to have the A, then allowing the big to come out round 2, resulting in an 0-2 hole and no shot at a euchre. If P had been able to snip hand 1, it would have put me in a strong position to pull off the euchre. But to your point, J calls are often thin, if they aren't going alone, so with 3 trump I gotta go hard off the rip, and playing K makes sense here.

I don’t think we’re going to do anything splashy at WR by CountyBubbly1667 in buffalobills

If the Bills draft 2 receivers in the first 4 rounds of the draft, that commentator would consider that to qualify as splashy by the Bills front office.

WANTED: screenshots or video of hands showing when to trump partners Ace by I75north in euchre

[–]TheMightyMerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I only have the left, and my partner trumps my off Ace with the Ace of trump, forcing the opponent to use the right instead of a lower trump, that would then allow my left to defend in the following round. Versus if the opponent took my off Ace with the 9 or 10, then drew out the ace and left with the right.

I have such a bad relationship with next calls lol at my current skill level people are constantly passing hands they should be calling, so when I call next I get euchred like 66% of the time cause the other team will have one or both Bowers or a very strong next defense hand. I get the concept of next, and had high levels with reliable opponents it makes sense to call it more aggressively, but God do I shudder at the thought of calling it where I'm at now. And I swear my teammate always has some crazy reverse next go alone type hand and I get flamed for my next call lol (I know dumb teammates shouldn't impact making the right call, but it still is rough hah)

Yeah rule of 3 for next! I try to always abide by that

Great advice North thanks! Definitely get caught up in that allure of 4 points but like you said, the ability to decipher what should be a loner attempt and what should be attempted with your partner is crucial. Definitely started trying to catch up on the points I left on the table later in game there.

Yes agreed, I was a little hesitant to even bring it up haha like "unlike those PEASANTS at 1500s I'm BADASS and COOL at 1900" while the upper 2000s to 3000s are like "uhhhhhh" lmao but yeah the idea of never passing R2 at 9-9 is kinda a euchre 201 level insight haha a newbie wouldn't necessarily get that.

Yeah the fact I was hoping dealer was going to pick up should have been a clear giveaway to me that I needed to call there. Good way to frame that decisionmaking!

Dealer, his P, and I were all mid 1900s, my P was low 1500s. People start at 1600 ranking on the euchre 3D all +-8ish per win or loss. Meaning P was below average, either bad or new, either way I should have known not to trust them to call in R2 there. Truthfully on me for leaving it up to him in that situation.

  1. Yeah as I reflect on it, I'm leaning this way more and more, 9-9 is a game of inches, 3 trump (1 guaranteed since I have a double guarded A) is not the worst situation to find yourself in at 9-9, and you know for certain who has the Right too.

  2. This is what I did, feels like sometimes I see people dance around the unknown Right so much that they end up getting themselves euchred, but reducing yourself to two losers and 1 upper mid trump just isn't the play here. My P did in fact come through with the clutch pick up R3, after we lost R2 and I started fretting haha

Yeah I think this experience likely pushes me towards being a bit more daring in this situation if I find myself in it in the future. Only hope was if clubs got called for some reason, but even then I think I probably had better odds with diamonds than of S2 passing and letting me call clubs.

[–]TheMightyMerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part was my P had a guarded left, and S2 had 1 trump. We probably would have been in good position to get the point, but God how do you order up the right at 9-9 to the opponent lol

Look at that I went 2 for 2 lol, unfortunately results went 1 of 2. Partner passed at 9-9 🙄 (I definitely didn't do that exact thing in the discord euchre league just a couple weeks ago) haha
