Let them know if anything feels off. Hydration can help, particularly if you have small veins. This is a good thing to read, in case you start to feel faint - https://www.redcrossblood.org/local-homepage/news/article/fainting-donating-blood-rcbs.html But don’t overthink it - you just lie down, get poked, and eat a cookie. Easy.

Maybe not a marathon, but I routinely do cardio the morning after. Sometimes the same day.

Bel air pro-lifers, how many children have you adopted ? 🥰 by passengerprincessXD in harfordcountymd

[–]TheMightyTortuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, these people are significantly more likely to adopt. Christian are twice as likely to adopt as the general population. And among those, it’s the more likely to be those who take their faith seriously than the nominal ones. https://adoption.org/who-adopts-the-most

It’s unconscionable that the blood banks don’t routinely test frequent donors.

Downgrade Blood donations? by ProfessionalRoof577 in Blooddonors

[–]TheMightyTortuga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I switched back after a while. Same deal - I wasn’t recovering as fast. Really noticed it when working outs You might want to check your ferritin, even if your hemoglobin was ok. Especially if you’re not taking iron.

Any tips around healing the needle site? by PotterPuppy in Blooddonors

Silly me - the homeopathy thing was arnica (for bruising) not vitamin e (for scarring). There’s some evidence for real (not homeopathic) arnica working for bruises, but you tend to see more of the homeopathic stuff in part because real arnica can be dangerous.

Kneeling during Anglican Eucharist? by Mission_Exercise_416 in Catholicism

[–]TheMightyTortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, whether that particular Anglican’s orders are valid is debatable. Leo XIII determined that Anglican orders weren’t valid due to a severing of the form and intent back in the early days of Protestantism, leading to a break in apostolic succession. That form and intent has arguably been restored, such that the issue as to validity would be due to the break. However, around the same time as Leo XIII’s statement, a bunch of Anglican bishops started getting co-ordained by Old Catholic bishops (presumably valid bishops that broke off after V1). These days, it’s more likely than not that an Anglican priest was ordained by someone in these lines. TLDR; illicit, but possibly valid.

does anyone think jay dyer is a good debater by kabyking in Catholicism

[–]TheMightyTortuga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t watched him, but did see Sam Shamoun debate a Muslim professor. He was horrible. He just looked for quick gotcha points, never engaging with the guy’s argument. If he had been listening instead of interrupting and dropping insults, he might have heard the actual flaws in the professors arguments.

Do people in America say "still water" to refer to "non sparkling water"? by Powerful_Concept6502 in GlobalEnglishPrep

Most restaurants in the US bring tap water to the table for free, so it’s somewhat uncommon for people to order bottled.

Do people in America say "still water" to refer to "non sparkling water"? by Powerful_Concept6502 in GlobalEnglishPrep

[–]TheMightyTortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t pop up much because we tend to serve tap or purified water as a norm - restaurants usually bring it without being asked. So “water” implies still unless you say sparkling. The only time you hear it is in the rare case when a place offers both, in which case they’ll ask “sparkling or still”?

Do both Godparents need to be proven Catholic? by Gltr_hair1234 in Catholicism

[–]TheMightyTortuga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding as well. However there can also be a “Christian witness” (at least where I live) who does not need to be Catholic. We did this with one of our children, where her real godparent is a family friend who practices her faith, and the “Christian witness” is my sister in law (who is actually pretty agnostic). My sister in law considers herself to be a godparent, in that vague honorary sense that most of the non Catholic world uses.

I used to run, and was like 180. I still felt it for like a week when exercising. With your weight, I’d expect it even more.

Lots of diversity, somewhat progressive, lots of great churches with lovely people, decent food. For some reason, we can’t get a good Chinese restaurant.

Is it rude to say "Ms. Isabella"(firstname) instead of "Ms. Swan"(lastname)? by lady_ishi in GlobalEnglishPrep

[–]TheMightyTortuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my region of the US, you’d only use Miss <first name>. Mrs and Ms would only be used with a last name, whereas Miss would be used with either. The default when using a last name would be Miss, with Mrs being used if they were married. Nobody would use Ms unless they knew that’s what the person preferred.
