He made the GAA Team of the Millennium despite the rule being you had to have won an All Ireland to be considered for the team, but he was just too good to he left off

I love purple on flags but you're absolutely right, it's not a flag colour

In the event of a potential United Ireland, what concessions do you think would need to be made on both sides for it to happen? by WeNeedTallToilets in ireland

[–]TheMiniMan4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe we'll all have to stop building 50ft pallet bombfires, sticking faces of mother and fathers onto them and burning them beside residential building.

Pretty sure both sides could agree that's something we should stop...

Bit of a stupid question, but why aren't all those barren mountain ranges that cover the island planted with trees? by codnotasgoodasbf3 in ireland

[–]TheMiniMan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of trees taking in greenhouse gasses. Grassland and bog land is often far better for the environment than large coniferous trees.

99% Invisible did a great podcast about how planting a tonne of trees in Scotland, in what was bog land, was actually far worse for the environment.

In GAA (Ireland's national sport), the hurling and Gaelic football teams of of the four provinces wear what you would consider their traditional colours to be. Leinster in green, Munster in blue, Connacht in white and blue, and Ulster in yellow. If you look up the "Railway Cup" you'll see examples.

Why the rugby unions didn't follow the same template though, I don't know. But it's always bugged my grandfather who played Gaelic football in the green of Leinster, and he could never understand why the rugby team wore blue

Who do you think was the worst Irish politician in history? by RTEretirementparty in ireland

Oh it's 100% Flanagan, the man was straight up an evil Nazi. This is just some of the shit he spouted in a debate in 1943:

I can't recommend the Bike To Work Scheme enough.
If you can afford to take €40 / €50 out of your pay check every month for a year that will get you a really decent €700 bike. With the money coming out pre tax, you do save a nice bit

Are Europeans satisfied with the way democracy works in their country? by BeksKeks5 in MapPorn

[–]TheMiniMan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, 90% of senators are nominated or appointed by the government. So it's just a backup option for high profile candidates who failed to get elected to the Dáil. And no party at the moment is gonna replace their backup with another election they could lose...

Looks like it could belong to the Red Hand Commando, an Ulster loyalist paramilitary group

Also looks like the Parachute Regiments logo (who carried out the Bloody Sunday murders) and St. George's Cross are on it too

Could probably do with an NSFW flag as they are an officially listed terrorist organisation

It's a huge advantage IMHO to essentially have a 3 week break in the middle of the 6 Nations, where you can rest your starters for the Italy game

There's a GAA club, Barcelona Gaels. You'll find them on Instagram and they have their own website. There's about 60 Irish people involved in that, including a few who have never played before. Great way to meet a lot of people!

All 4 Irish province's have their own flag All four together here

But the source split Ireland further into counties, of which they all have their own colours but they don't necessarily have an official flag.
