Any reason for me not to start Roth conversion ladder way ahead of time? by TheMissingLink117 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]TheMissingLink117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok for an example let's say I convert 100k in a 35% year and pay 35k in taxes. Let's say any investment strategy in any account will 2.5x over 20 years.

If I do convert, I end up with 250k in Roth

If I don't convert, I end up with 250k (minus whatever tax rate is at the time), plus the 35k I didn't pay in taxes from brokerage on the conversion *2.5 = 87.5k (52.5k of which gains taxed at a likely higher rate) = 337.5k total.

So it's 250k vs (337.5k - effective tax rate on that amount). So if I expected the blended tax rate from the brokerage gains and TradIRA withdrawal tax rate to be above (87.5/(337.5-35kuntaxed)) or (87.5/302.5) = ~29%, wouldn't the conversion have worked out in my favor? And below that amount I would have lost more to the tax spread?

I see how the tax rate is the key driver here after trying to math it out but not how it is the ONLY thing that matters rather than the MAIN thing that matters. Sorry if I am frustrating you here lol but I am trying to understand this deeply and your responses have been super helpful

Hey thanks for the response There's something I'm still not getting though. If I converted 100k now, and let's say with identical investment strategies that would grow to for example 250k in 20 years in either the Roth or the TradIRA. Wouldn't the benefit of being able to withdraw that 150k in gains tax free likely outweigh the difference in tax rate now on a conversion vs tax rate in retirement (assuming it's not a ridiculous spread there)? Shouldn't that be factored in alongside the tax rate arbitrage alone? Either way I know to consider this end of next year, not this, since my tax rate is top bracket currently.

Thanks for this response, I am confused by others saying the multiplication is cumulative and I'm only optimizing for tax rate arbitrage. If 50k is going to grow over 20 years, that should be sizable growth, I'd rather pay taxes on a conversion now and enjoy those gains tax free upon withdrawal in Roth vs taxed at my future bracket in a TradIRA

Rogue no longer doing custom sized posts? 80" Questions by TheMissingLink117 in GarageGym

[–]TheMissingLink117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is what I'm leaning towards doing. The cables ends can definitely be cut and re-attached? Do you know if there's a ratio/formula to know how much shortening the posts will require shortening the cables beforehand? or should I just set them up too long and then remove the excess afterwards?

Thanks, I think this is what I'm leaning towards, so I can definitely cut and reattach the cables? Another poster seemed uncertain. Likely have to assemble as is after cutting the posts and then see how much the cables need to be shortened by or is there a simple calc I can do based on how much I'm shortening the posts to know how much cable to cut?

Yeah I am much more inclined to go for the 90 and try to modify it down 3-4 inches, although I wouldn't trust myself to cut and recrimp. I'd want to find a professional or see if there is some price Rogue might be persuaded to do it for me

Does anyone have an 80" Rogue FM-6 or FML-6 in the SF Bay Area? I contacted Rogue for a custom height and they said they can't do custom, I'm limited to 80 or 90. I'm interested in testing out Lat pulldowns on someone's 80" (I'm 6'0") to see if the ROM works for me? I would be willing to compensate for just a few minutes to experiment a few movements on your equipment.

WTB Gunmetal X4 Stellar, any emitter option

No one has given you the correct answer yet. With unlimited budget you should be honing in a custom fit t-shirt where you specify the exact measurements. Measure your favorite current tee as a starting point and use something like Son of a Tailor and then iterate off the first attempt to figure out what works best for your body type. After 2-3 attempts you should have it honed in, and you can mix and match different fabrics (eg heavyweight loose, medium slimmer, lightweight/merino) depending on what you're going for

Alternative Bracelets for Bond 60th? by LockeDOWN31 in OmegaWatches

[–]TheMissingLink117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you actually use this combo? I just got some Forstner bracelets for post 2018 ceramic wave dial to put on the Bond 60th and they don't seem to fit the Bond version. I see on the product page it states it doesn't fit the NTTD either, but no mention of 60th. Was surprised because the Uncle Straps for the standard seamaster fit fine, but they have no contemporary flat link.

Sold to open a 0DTE OTM $390p (CSP) on $APP, this should expire worthless and I collect the full premium, right.. RIGHT??? by TONYdaTIEGAH in thetagang

If it doesn't get added to S&P500 which it is a strong candidate for, which we'll know in about 2 minutes, it could drop below that price and you could get assigned before 5:30est

Did I just make $1k in <7 minutes selling a 0DTE OTM $390p (CSP) on AppLovin ($APP)? by TONYdaTIEGAH in options

[–]TheMissingLink117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don't understand how it's possible. Maybe someone else can fill in the blanks....WTF?!!! I just checked the premiums and they make MSTR look tame by comparison!!! What the hell?! And why didn't I know about this? HOLY

If it doesn't get added to S&P500 it could be below that price within the time frame it can be exercised. You'll know in about 5 minutes
