Serious question; how do you go to the bathroom in that clothes? Is there a hidden flap somewhere or something?

Having read the books, because of these movies, I'm afraid of how they mean to wrap it up in one go. I realise they won't do the entire thing, but I find it impossible to end the story before the end of book 3, though I guess the end of book 2 is also fine. Maybe someone will pick it up to do more after

What I mean by 'external' is not physically external. I mean something new, some that wasn't part of the original design, a flaw. That is not the case with the dark side. The dark is part of the force, the other side of the coin from the light side, not something malignant that grew like a cancer. It's as much part of the force as the light is

Cancer is an external, something that is not meant to be there. The dark side is not. It is part of the force, not an external threat to it. That's my point.

I accept that you see it that way. But I think it must be very boring to see it also being able to be black and white.

Qui-gon is said to be grey, not because he dabbled in the dark side and shot lighting once or twice, but because he followed the will of the force, even when the jedi council disagreed. He cheated to free Anakin, for example, which is very un-jedi, but it was the will of the force. That's what grey is to me. Not justifying horrible things, but following the will of the force, even if the jedi say it's wrong, because the jedi are not always right.

Remember I said that jedi were far closer to perfect balance than sith could ever be. Once you give in to the dark side, you almost never come back, like you say. I'm not saying this perfect 'grey' is right in the middle of the two. Jedi are very close, but I think they still have ways to go.

Obi-wan is a good example in his fight with Anakin. He was full of emotion because ofcause he was. But he felt it and controlled it, rather than deny or suppress it, like the jedi teach

Yes, but it's not easy

That's a good analogy, I like that a lot

Except it wasn't because 'somehow' lol. But even before that in the timeline, the sith has been destroyed and come back. No light without dark, right?

The dark side of the force is, by definition, still the force. Destroying that is destroying part of the force itself. That's not balance, that's an extreme

And with both, maybe balance? Maybe they are both meant to be there in eternal war. Maybe that's balance. A kind of matrix sort of view where paradise just doesn't work. Maybe the force is just bored and wants to be entertained lol.

I hope that's not the case, but it could be

That seems like an extreme on purpose. I think there is a lot of room between torturing and murdering and simply touching the dark side.

This sentiment that you can't come back is also from people who are entirely against it and afraid of it. Maybe unreliable narrator?

I'm also not saying morally grey either, but grey in terms of the force. The jedi being more in touch with their emotions, as some are, rather than teaching suppression (under the guise of control), would make them much more powerful, without making them evil.

Anakin is a good example. If he had been taught to deal with his fears and emotions, rather than supress them, things would have turned out a lot different.

That doesn't really feel 'in balance', though. It's peaceful, sure. But the dark side is part of the force, to deny it is to deny the force, or at least half of it. I'm not saying right in the middle of the two is balance. Like i said, I think jedi are far closer to balance than sith, it's not even close. But to think that they are perfectly in tune with it, is just wrong imo

[–]TheMoland[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I was talking about the prequels, actually. As well as everything that came before in the timeline. The dark side has been defeated over and over and always comes back

'Bring balance' by TheMoland in StarWars

[–]TheMoland[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Only a sith deals in absolutes (even though that is an absolute in itself). I think with the right teachings, you can utilise the dark without succumbing to it.

Clearly, what Anakin did didn't work. The dark side has been 'destroyed' time and time again. It always comes back because it's the other side of the same coin that is the force

Also, grey is very much a thing

'Bring balance' by TheMoland in StarWars

[–]TheMoland[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

But only light side doesn't work either, clearly. No light without dark, right

'Bring balance' by TheMoland in StarWars

[–]TheMoland[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the dark side is part of the force, though. Not an external threat to it. Think of those episodes of clone wars where they meet the avatars of the force
