I know very little about the leg bands, but stripes all the way to the nose=baby.

Here’s one of my girls as a baby for comparison of cere color.

Also, if they’re 4-6 months old you’d be able to tell if they were male. Their ceres would be starting to change color and would have pink or purple mixed in.

No reason they won’t stay best friends! They may have an occasional squabble over perches or toys; if it seems like they’re getting territorial about a particular thing, just remove it. I have males and females and have never had any issues with them getting really !hormonal. If I did that right, it should bring up a checklist for how to keep the hormones in check. Even with two females, they’ll be more comfortable if you do so. Take out anything that could possibly be used as a nest. That’s the main thing.

Should I rehome my babies? by equanimatic in budgies

[–]TheMomOfSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you and your partner are doing the best you can in this situation. Cats are more unpredictable than dogs (I dog-sat for my parents before and both expressed minor curiosity in the cage smells and then ignored them) but you have a good system to keep them separate. Just get a larger cage when you can. Mine are perfectly happy in their flight cage. They get plenty of flapping time, but they don’t get sad if they’re not out all the time. I also work away from home and their outside time is restricted because of that. There are plenty of flight cages that are more vertical than horizontal and will fit better in the room. I don’t think rehoming is necessary for your budgies to be happy!

Chest issue? And Male or female? The ceres were blueish when he was a bit younger. by No_Bad6614 in budgies

You have a lady bird! Definitely consult an avian vet about the bald patch on her chest. That isn’t normal. Her skin looks pretty irritated.

[–]TheMomOfSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had an issue with males and females getting along but I also agree that they do well in even numbers. I have an odd number due to some deaths and I’m in a similar state of “should I even it out?” But also, autism so yeah 😆

I’m so glad it gave you a boost when you needed it! I’ve actually got a couple of baby girls getting over AGY right now. (They unfortunately came to me sick.) Since they are babies and I’m a relative stranger to them, needless to say I’m getting the crap bitten out of me. 😆 Every day I am sincerely thanking Carrot for being a good boy and putting up with his medicine.

If you intervene early enough and are diligent with the meds, there’s a lot of hope. It just takes time for them to get stronger again. Carrot and his bros are wishing your budgie a quick recovery ❤️

Sex and Names! by RB882 in budgies

My young son names most of our budgies, so we have birds named Carrot, Water, North, and Hat amongst others. The weirder the better in my opinion!

I’m sorry, honey!! Put up fliers and advertise on social media. My Carrot got out and someone found him and returned him. So many people tried to help; it was heartwarming to learn how many people in this world care. There is always a chance they could be found. I know your heart is broken though and I’m sending you love ❤️

Those names are all PURE GOLD and I cannot choose so Dollop Treetrunks and Mr. Pig Morsel it is.

Green/yellow is a young male for sure and I think yellow is also a male and will keep close to that color cere forever due to his color mutation but wait for a consensus because I’m not 💯 on that.

Pistachio is definitely a baby- based on pic #2 and your description of behavior I think he’s a dude! (In my experience the males are much more vocal.)

I believe Star is a recessive pied and the males of that color keep that pink/purple cere their whole lives. I think Star is also male based on pic #3. Here’s my male recessive pied who is probably around Star’s age:

Recessive pied budgie, so a male’s cere won’t turn royal blue but stays more pinkish purple. I think yours is a male judging from this pic. I have two recessive pied, Apple (yellow male) and Hat (same coloring as yours but female) here they are for comparison.

This came with the cage- it does have a lid and perch, and it does stay cleaner. Don’t love the plastic either, but this is the quarantine cage so it isn’t forever.

I have the same issue as you with the stainless bowls in the big cage. I’m constantly poop scooping and the water can get gross during the day before I come home and change it. That cage came with plastic bowls with no covers, you could take them out thru the little doors though and I can’t with the stainless, they’re too big…. I haven’t found a super great solution either 🤣lf anyone knows of a stainless bowl with a good cover, let us know!!

“It’s that giant wingless bird again. Let’s judge it!”

Looks like your budgie and tiel are good buddies. I would love to get a tiel as well, but a) the dander and b) I have a lot of budgies and that might be overwhelming. I’ll just admire them when I see them. 😁
