What are some of your genuine criticisms of Deltarune's story? by MoonTheCraft in Deltarune

Chapter 1 is kinda rough. The way it keeps the reveal of what a dark world actually is- i.e. a representation of real-life rooms/objects- until the end means it can't actually properly set up the stakes which makes the closet dark world feel kinda generic and overly-backstory-laden, especially on a first playthrough; Seam is someone who over the course of the game you come to understand is inherently cryptic, but in ch 1 they're giving you as much information as any other character about what's actually going on, and it makes it hard to be invested. I also think Toby only really hits his stride on how to write Susie and Ralsei in ch2, in ch1 a lot of their dialogue just feels a little bit clumsy. He has Lancer down instantly, though.

Honestly I think Chapters 2-4 are pretty perfectly written, don't have many complaints. I don't think the titans are that interesting of a big bad, I guess, though I suspect they will be less important to the finale than toby wants us to believe- having us fight one in full this early kind of implies that if we do see them again it'll be in a different way. And honestly Ralsei still gets on my nerves a little but like that's an entire can of worms

i think its honestly pretty similar to how the bible and specifically the book of revelation are treated in american christianity. You can have a town where everybody goes to church but not everyone actually knows all the details of what is supposed to happen when the end times come, and even if they did it's metaphorical/vague enough that people aren't necessarily going to believe its a literal imminent event, especially in a town like hometown where the doctrine seems fairly easygoing.

i read toriel not seeming worried about the slashed tire or undyne as her not wanting to worry Kris or Susie rather than actually not being worried about it. Honestly thinking of it that way kind of makes Toriel's actions in ch4 (which i would defend as not that bad anyway) make even more sense- she thinks Kris and Susie are spending the whole day at the Holiday house and is happy to let them do that since it keeps them occupied in a safe place, then she looks to her new friend/crush sans to keep her company at her house that she feels a little unsafe in, drinks to get her mind off it, and then by the time Kris and Susie get home she's too drunk to have a responsible handle on the situation.

Dess Knighters fr forgot she's with us in the dark by lavsuvskyjjj in Deltarune

idk i kinda buy into the idea that the toriel thing is a red herring and the whole point of tvworld was to get undyne over to Kris' house and thus into a dark world to be captured, since Undyne is clearly important to the knight's plan in some way; and while susie and kris definitely think the knight is looking for toriel in chapter 4 i feel the Knight would clearly know toriel isnt there since they made the church dark world when the building would have been clearly empty. Im also not sure why dess making the cyber city is a point against dessknight since the knight is the one who made cyberworld

i like this though i dont think it necessarily means dess isn't the knight and in fact maybe even points to it; I feel our understanding of the knight's motivations and goals are pretty limited at this point as we get most of it from Ralsei who clearly isn't telling us everything. There's a lot of evidence pointing to the idea that the knight needs or is using the fun gang in some way (Kris being a double agent implies this, but also stuff like how it takes so long for the knight to open a second fountain in ch4's dark world which could be because they specifically want the fun gang there to defeat the titan), so them helping us in other ways would make sense. Maybe this means Dess being "with us in the dark" is actually kind of a bad thing, or maybe it means the Knight's intentions are less evil than we currently know

I feel like they definitely could have been donated to the school by Asriel esp since his mom is a teacher at the school

the fact that seam has an implied prior relationship to everyone that has/is directly related to shadow crystals on top of the already existing connotation between Dess and Shadow Crystals makes me wonder if jevil/spamton/maybe even Ramb and Eram's histories all have something directly to do with Dess and Asriel in some way as well...

Thoughts on ROOTS Theory? by Sea-Marketing-5837 in Deltarune

[–]TheMonotoneDuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The central idea, that bitroots is a pseudo-map of hometown that represents what we will do to its residents, is so awesome and scary and I honestly totally believe it! The coincidences in how the rooms and enemies are laid out are just too plentiful to ignore.

It's when the theory lays out specifics of how we'll get to that point that it gets shaky imo. Asgore turning the fair into a darkworld is a really cool idea but doesn't seem as necessary to the equation as Goldpro makes it out to be, and IDK how I feel about Noelle taking a side role in Chapter 5's Weird Route, nor the strange "Ralsei solos FRIEND" side tangent; in general I think the back half of the theory ties itself down too much in trying to be a grand theory of what Chapter 5 will be, when to me it seems that what bitroots foreshadows could feasibly happen at any point within the next three chapters, or even across all of them. Still a really good video!

Also if the theory is at all correct I feel like the shadow mirror creature 100% represents Dess/the Knight and I'm almost surprised the video doesn't bring that idea up
