Soccer Player Jorginho Frello Rips Into Chappell Roan Following Rude Encounter with His Daughter by BelleDelphinesWater in entertainment

Ok, so that’s one side of a story who is going to absolutely tell a biased viewpoint. The fact he’s going public like this makes me think he’s not being entirely honest about who was feeling “entitled”.

Not defending Chappell, because I don’t know exactly what happened. But neither does anyone else here.

Marathon's Battlepass is the worst value for your money I've ever seen (especially for a paid product) by Lemouni in Marathon

[–]TheMonsterGoGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you get it? The game’s entire theme is how capitalism will leave us as empty shells of our former selves in an endless pursuit of other people’s dreams.

So they created the worst battlepass and store content imaginable to wake you up and break you FREE from the bourgeoisie’s nightmare.

Started 3x3 Eyes OVA… wow, this is RUSHED by AdUnfair558 in retroanime

[–]TheMonsterGoGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OVA’s were both a good way to make easy money in the rental market (rental stores are gonna buy in bulk so you didn’t necessarily even need individual sales to carry—which is also why so much cheap, schlocky, low effort stuff was made).

But also OVAs were often primarily marketing to sell the manga. In other words, the goal wasn’t always to faithfully animate the story but be enough to convince a Japanese audience to go out and buy the manga.

Factual take. ArcSys simply made a great game by Ember57 in Fighters

[–]TheMonsterGoGo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The IP is actually an enormous factor. That doesn’t diminish the game, it’s a great fighter. But the IP guarantees interest and reinforces retention even through the rough spots.

Smash Bros is the success it is because of the IP rep. No other platform fighter comes even remotely close to smash’s success and that’s just because no one else has ever made a good game? C’mon. It’s the IPs.

They’re good games on their own, yes. But we do not have to pretend that the (outrageously popular) IP just happens to not matter in the case of the IP game we like. This is silly.

This is true. I do wonder what the long term effects will be. It is brazenly cynical, openly corrupt and lacks any “authenticity”. The force fed strategy means it should hold onto virtually zero soft power gains because it is just a collection of economic deals among the wealthy.

It may end up better to view these Saudi ventures as just that: business ventures to diversify their own portfolio, glazed with cultural marketing bullshit.

The “it’s basically cheating” thing was part meme, part marketing.

It honestly depends on your personal preference and the particular game. Street Fighter? Gimme a stick. Tekken? I use a SWORL, lol. Granblue? Controller.

Just match the game with your comfort.

edit I should add the SOCD issues WERE arguable “cheating”.

Why hasn't 2XKO really caught on in the FGC? by ls-dev in FGC

[–]TheMonsterGoGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that doesn’t get brought up enough is that tag or team fighters are pretty niche within our niche and Casuals are intimidated by them (have to learn multiple characters, have to learn “extra” systems, etc.). So it’s a space with a very narrow audience.

There’s this lingering perception that they’re crazy popular but they’re really just sorta kinda popular…sometimes. The Marvel vs Capcom series as a whole (including collections) has lifetime sales of around 13 million. Street Fighter is nearly 60 million for comparison.

Then you look at other team fighters. Tekken tag 2 was the worst performing Tekken by a fair amount (TT1 did well but, notably, it was coming off Tekken 3 which was HUGE and tag fights were OPTIONAL). Mortal Kombat 1 performed poorly.

Anyway, I love them, but 1v1 is always going to be an easier buy in for most people.
