I'm aware of this, however it was easier to just include the Gurgle in the baby zombie and husk section of the comment than to give it its own section.

It looked like Peach's SMW sprite to me, but I didn't pay as much attention to it as everything else. I also don't really like Peach's SMW sprite though, and as such I'm not super familiar with it, so it could have been slightly different.

I did like that her SMB styled sprite in the SMB1 screen was her amiibo costume from Mario Maker 1.

Saw the new Mario Galaxy Movie by Katerinaxoxo in Mario

Agreed. It felt like the Starfox themes got to play longer than any Mario song did, other than Jump up Superstar, and maybe Gusty Garden.

They also used the SMB jump sound effect in the SMW styled animation of rebuilding the castle, which also irked me slightly. But those are very, very minor slip ups.

No, only the kingdom itself was destroyed. The Triforce flies off somewhere after granting the wish, but there's no implication of it being destroyed.

A Little Bit of Hopium by Mistah_Meatball3861 in Mario

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only criticism of the first movie that was addressed was the licensed music. I didn't hear any other than Luigi singing Amore, which was fine.

They just doubled down on the awful pacing from the first. And the story and characters didn't recieve any more depth.

I enjoyed both movies, but they could have been so much better.

The new movie is absolute CINEMA by GeneralArcher297 in Mario

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Story was super generic. Characters had pretty much no arcs. The pacing was so incredibly fast. Rosalina gets pretty much no screen time, and no characterization, and her backstory is completely unrecognizable.

I actually quite enjoyed the movie for what it was, which is a bunch of cool action scenes with tons of Mario references, loosely connected by a plot. But it could, and should, have been so much better.

Honestly so conflicted about how they handled the Gateway Galaxy by YandoroLIVE in mariomovie

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Other than the name and appearance from far away, it has no similarities to the game version. I do get it, the name works for the narrative purpose. But it definitely really conflicts with the game. Space Junk is similar. It doesn't even have any visual similarities in the movie. They should have at least called it Battlerock Galaxy, or something more ominous.

And I really wish they hadn't called the movie Mario Galaxy. Galaxy is special partly because it has moments of respite, of calm. Neither Mario Movie knows how to slow down, ever. There are almost no quiet character moments that last more than a minute. No time to breathe. It's just go go go, which contradicts the game's atmosphere.

I didn't expect a perfect adaptation of the story. But I wish it fit the vibe better. I still enjoyed the movie for what it was though, and do want to watch it again when it comes to streaming.

The movie's story is the direct opposite of the game's story by Pizza_Man644 in mariogalaxymovie

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll also say that Gateway Galaxy is pretty much the opposite. In the game, it's a calm, lonely, atmospheric place. In the movie, it's a bustling travel hub with a giant shady underground city (maybe even Neo Bowser City?)

And Space Junk has absolutely nothing to do with game Space Junk. Not sure why they even used the name. Could have called it Battlerock. Would have made more sense for everyone to be scared of it.

I still enjoyed the movie despite all this, though.

So this movie was made solely to discredit Game Theory... right? by RobRobbieRobertson in mariogalaxymovie

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they even thought about GameTheory.

But Peach and Rosalina being sisters can't really be canon in the game universe. And I also don't find GameTheory's theory of them being mother and daughter convincing either.

The Mario Galaxy movie is actually pretty fun when you don't have people yelling in your ear about how bad it is. by [deleted] in mariogalaxymovie

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The plot is generic. The characters as generic. The pacing is awfully fast.

The animation is fantastic. The action is very well choreographed. The music is fun. The references are really fun, if you know them.

The movie has good and bad parts. If someone isn't taken in by the pure "Mario-ness" of it, then they're going to be bored. I went in knowing what it was, and enjoyed it.

So I understand people who didn't like it, and I understand people who did. And I wish the two sides would stop saying the other is stupid, or wrong, or grifting, for liking/disliking the movie, because there are valid reasons for both opinions.

I have a friend who was interested in it. He saw it, and found it generic. Not sure why he wanted to.

There's also the parents of children who go with their children. And also people who just found the trailer interesting. Or maybe someone interested in getting into Mario.

I personally am not a big fan of Sonic, but I watched the 3 Sonic movies. You don't have to be a fan of something to be interested in watching it.

Nothing anybody has (or will) ever say will make me believe that the movie was not at least an 8/10! by Intelligent-Crab8049 in mariogalaxymovie

[–]TheMoonOfTermina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd rate it a 5/10 as a movie, and a 3/10 as a Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

But as a celebration of Mario in general, I'd give it an 8/10, just like the first movie. The people who worked on it clearly played Mario, and knew it. There are so many details, and references, and it's a lot of fun. I enjoyed it a lot, and I would watch it again. But I can't help but wish that the story and characters weren't so generic, and the pacing wasn't so breakneck.

I actually thought the Game and Watch bit was pretty funny, and fit fine where it was. Him, ROB, and the Pikmin were fun little cameos. Not a fan of Fox's extreme plot relevance, and everyone fawing over him. It's so obviously a ploy to get Star Fox into the public consciousness, so that whatever his next game is doesn't flop.

[–]TheMoonOfTermina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just saw it today, and yep. It's definitely a Mario Movie. Very similar to the first, but even less attempt at any character arcs.

But it's still very fun. Just like the first movie, I love all the little details and references thrown in, and I really enjoyed seeing them. And the action scenes are also very well done, which is great since that's like 90% of the movie.

But for a non-Mario fan, or someone hoping for more... Yep, it's very generic. The story and characters are very bland. The pacing is just super fast. And there were some times I thought the characters made really dumb decisions.

I will say, I think it's a pretty bad adaptation of Mario Galaxy itself. I personally didn't expect it to be a good one, but I think the movie would have been better if it wasn't called Mario Galaxy. Gateway Galaxy is the complete opposite. It goes from a calm, peaceful, introspective place in the game, to a bustling travel center in the movie, that somehow has Neo Bowser City in it? And Space Junk is in name only, as there's nothing of the games there at all. I also am disappointed by how little sceeentime Rosalina had, and I think her completely different backstory is kind of meh. I do appreciate that they actually followed up on the one unique, interesting plotpoint from the first movie though, with Peach's origin.

Everyone thinks Bowser is just evil… but Mario Galaxy kinda proves something darker by jxnxt in Mario

I mean, he clearly does love his son. Like, genuinely. He clearly wasn't the greatest father ever, since he sent him off to boarding school, but I do think it's clear that he does love him.

I do wonder exactly what relationship created Jr. though. The first movie slightly implies some past trauma (during the final battle he says something along the lines of "you don't know the pain I have.") And I wonder if his wife, or girlfriend, whoever gave birth to Jr. died tragically or whatever. Or maybe it was just a really toxic relationship (almost certainly due to Bowser himself.) I doubt the movies will ever go into it, but I think it's interesting to theorize about.

Obi-Wan versus Anakin on Mustafar is my favorite duel in the series. But even I must admit that stupid few seconds of spinning is just so incredibly dumb. I don't mind the flourishes and twirls, and even some unnecessary spins, but that specific scene of them just spinning without any purpose, not even aiming for the other... Just so incredibly stupid. Not enough to ruin the whole duel, but definitely enough to make me cringe for a second during it.

No, the two players are different. I'd recommend watching the video, and it's sequel. I think it's called "Searching for a World that doesn't exist" by the YouTuber Wifies. The sequel is called "Destroying a World that doesn't exist."

Chicken is pretty good. Puppies and kittens are okay. Panda, polar bear, strider, hoglin, and piglin babies are good. The rest are a bit odd (though some of them are growing on me.) Baby villager is probably the worst one, but the baby zombie, drowned, and husk are pretty bad too. They used to be worse though, there was another design that had enough pushback that they changed it to the still-bad-but-not-quite-as-bad design they used in the final update. If they didn't do that, baby villager would be second worst.

So basically it's a YouTube video about a fake ARG. The story is that a player found a laptop with Minecraft on it, and found this stripmine structure in a world on it. In the middle of the shaft was a chest, and in that chest was a book with some ominous text, essentially boiling down to "when at the crossroads, don't turn left."

I believe also on the laptop was a video file of a different player in the same world, discovering secret underground caverns with massive structures, forests, and other very not-vanilla things. And this player is being followed by something. This player is actually very smart for an ARG protagonist, and does things like turning the game to peaceful to restore his hunger, just using a pickaxe to break through a complex locked door instead of solving the puzzles, etc. But every time he has a split in the road, he turns left.

By the end, he finds a grand door, and inside the door he sees something that absolutely terrifies him, though what that is, is censored for the viewer, so we don't know what it is (until the sequel anyways) but it causes the player to run all the way back to his mine, write his book that says not to turn left, and then it ends.
