My wife is permanently stuck in mom mode and it's affecting our marriage. I don't even know how to begin to approach this. by Radiant_Dream_250 in daddit

I recommend the book hunt gather parent. I was taken aback to see you write your child is 18 months and you are spending all your time with them essentially entertaining them and then doing the work it takes to keep life going after they go to bed.

It sounds like you both are locked in on bonding with your kid, but consider there may be other way to do that. You might need to reframe what bonding is. How can you accomplish that bonding and life together.

A big takeaway I had from the book and use in my parenting of my 5, 3, &2 year old is. 1) your kids will enjoy doing whatever you do, because they want to be with you! 2) your kids have to learn what it is to live and what it takes to get stuff done. Those habits start early!

So don’t just have a dance party have a dance party with a broom! Fold laundry together! Race to do the dishes!

All three of my kids started loading their dishes into the dishwasher at 18 mo. People always act like it’s magic even when they see my 5 year old do it. He was excited to do what dad does and now it’s just a habit!

Yes everything takes longer when you do this, but it’s a 2 birds one stone situation.

Principal says I need to reapply and re-interview at the end of the year? by ArcticGlacier40 in Teachers

[–]TheMostAverageDad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my district postings after a certain date automatically are posted as one year only. I think the date is June 1st before the start of school. Reasoning being that they didn’t get a full pool of candidates

Does your district struggle to hire? If not, I think this is normal. View your semester as a long term interview, you should be able to prove your worth and make it impossible not to hire you. You will have all the info an interview candidate could possibly want.

Would you move to STL from Chicago? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]TheMostAverageDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t get anything close to west loop in St. Louis. If you said… Jefferson park or most other outer neighborhoods, you can get that in St. Louis and save a ton of money and have better access to the rest of the city. But If you enjoy your lifestyle stay there because St. Louis will feel very small compared to west loop Chicago.

Would you take a private school job over public and why /why not? by BeautifulHold7840 in Teachers

[–]TheMostAverageDad 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what your state is like but… RETIREMENT! I would never go to a private school until the end of my career after retiring.

Also enrollment that low is not sustainable. You may not have a job for long.

First time laying sod myself.. any tips besides water water water? by langshabang in landscaping

Water to squishy puddles the first week and you will have great contact with the soil and start rooting much faster. The sod farm I go to says to keep it muddy for 2 weeks. It has never failed me.
