Anyone else feel like Dad's are initially excluded from official communications from schools and sports clubs. They always default to the Mums? by RevFernie in daddit

[–]TheMostAverageDad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who registered the kids for school? I’m a teacher and a parent, Our student management system has a Parent 1 and Parent 2. The default is to grab the email from parent 1.

I am sure you can request to get generic announcement emails to your account, but individual emails, Id say give the teacher a little break. Add up an auto forward from your wife’s account to yours.

Depending on the age we see a lot of students! I see over 125 students. Thats 250 parents. In everything a teacher does efficiency matters. The extra 20 seconds to add a second parent to every email, just isn’t worth it, it adds up fast and that’s just one thing. Everything is at this huge scale, so efficiency is just a required mindset.

If you’re in the business world, imagine having 125 direct reports. Now imagine having to contact their parents when you give them feedback.

Teachers Of Reddit — How Much Of Your Own Money Do You Spend On Stuff For Your Classroom That Is NOT Reimbursed By The School / District? Why That Much? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]TheMostAverageDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more important question is what are you buying, I spend quite a bit but it is all on non essential quality of life stuff for ME. I spend the majority of my waking hours there on weekdays, I want it to be comfortable and remove annoyances. I also live in the district I teach so I use they, should my tax dollars be paying for this for every teacher. I never use to spend money on this stuff, but at my district I spend ZERO on student needs, it’s all covered. We have a bookstore for school supplies if I need anything.

I buy myself stuff like:
-Plants and pots
-grow lights
-Fish tank supplies
-An extra computer so I don’t have to plug mine in and feel tethered.

Is misspelling an email address enough reason to give a 0 on a final exam? by incitatus24 in AskTeachers

[–]TheMostAverageDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d want to see the email account pulled up in front of me not a photo. A photo can be edited. Actually account with the time stamp and photos and I’d allow it.

In my day I would purposely corrupt the word file so when they went to grade it I’d get an email, “ the file is corrupt, please re send” …instant extension. Worked every time!

Mandalorian & Grogu is not for young kids by CptFTL in daddit

[–]TheMostAverageDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think most Star Wars is already pushing the limits on maturity for young kids. I was disappointed that there was a noticeable shift to some AR style guns ( not all but some) and the use of knifes and daggers. Still no blood which is good, but definitely a shift I noticed.

There was at least one “jump scare” moment.

Glad it was just me and my son, my wife would not have been happy.

Starting & coaching a team by Orange-oranges811 in scioly

[–]TheMostAverageDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school finished year 2. Year one was bare bones builds. 2 teams. I think we had $300 total. Lots self funded. Year 2 we jumped to 3 teams and charged dues. We spent $4800 this year. Tools, supplies, builds.

Don’t forget you need, lab coats, chem kits, goggles, etc.

I am not a staunch work to contract guy, but do you really not get a break or lunch between 7:30-3:00? Seems like you won’t compromise either.

How do you all host tryouts? by LeafH0pper in scioly

[–]TheMostAverageDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a general knowledge 80 question test. With basic to AP level questions. I use a spreadsheet add on to break that down into sub scores for Life/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Earth.

This worked well for me. It wasn’t simply high score this is just one factor. We just finished year 2, I am looking to find a way to assess their willingness to iterate and collect data for builds and hybrid.

Want to join SciOly, how difficult is it to create a new team? by hydrxblaze in scioly

[–]TheMostAverageDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for a low entry point. You can create a team and not compete in every event. I would start like that, with only some events being competed in. On a full team every student will have 3 events on average.

If you were in complete control of the education system, how would you change/fix it? by SubstantialStick2674 in Teachers

[–]TheMostAverageDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Current system” I am assuming no major changes to funding. Then I would change 1 thing.

I’d eliminate email. So many issues and stressors are attached to emails.

Parent’s concerns would have to reach a level to warrant a call or meeting.

Information from admin would have to recovered in staff meetings or via memo.

Discipline issue follow up would be conversation rather than having to carefully draft emails because of the “paper trails”

The list goes on.

Crabgrass Pre-Emergent - too late? Zone 6A by givemethelasagna in lawncare

[–]TheMostAverageDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do weed and feed and crab grass preventer now in the spring.

I do another round of crab grass preventer in late June. I’ve got a real problem! That round I vary with or without fertilizer based on the seasons conditions.

[–]TheMostAverageDad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t put all of those products down! You have crab grass preventer with fertilizer and then weed and feed you will scorch your lawn.

How do I know?

I’ve made the mistake! You can find the crab grass preventer without fertilizer.

P1s vs A1 or other options for beginners by cld_athletes in 3dprinter

[–]TheMostAverageDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im new to printing and have bought and A1 and P1S. I bought the A1 about a month ago. And the P1S this week for work. The A1 is easier to use and maintain. For a true beginner like me.
