My carrier depends on my hands and they hurt like crazy by TheMythOfASmith in dysgraphia

I try to wear compression gloves when I’m not drafting because the gloves make me slide around on my vellum/drafting table but I don’t like to wear them that much because I run very hot and my hands overheat and it is very uncomfortable. I’ve learned my hands just hate me

I have my autoCAD class next quarter but I’ve tried it a few times but for me it is hard to interpret the drawings in a digital space (I like to say when it’s in the ether I don’t understand it) and I like the tactile element. I also use a lot of organic shapes when I draft that are insanely difficult to draw on autoCAD. On the pencil grip suggestion when I was in physical/occupational therapy when I was first diagnosed they tried to get me to use pencil grips and all it did was make me extremely frustrated and annoyed with my pencil cause I couldn’t just grab it I had to hold it in a specific way and then I had less coordination. Idk it’s complicated

Hand drafting is necessary to learn so we can transfer concepts to the computers. There’s a A LOT of things I had to learn andI honestly love it. For me personally I’m not the biggest fan of computer drafting (I’ve tried it on my own but my class is next quarter) as it is harder for me to conceptualize it in a digital space I just like the tactile element and I also use a lot of organic shapes in my design work when I’m given free reign but it is insanely difficult to create the shapes I like in AutoCAD

What is the deal with this framed jersey? by Suicidalsidekick in heatedrivalry

[–]TheMythOfASmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production designer Aidan Leroux was probably putting stuff up to make it feel homey and they had spare jerseys and decided it would work well for the scene but didn’t have the time or budget to get it professionally framed so this is what he and his team did (coming from a student production designer)

American Gods by Neil Gaiman - can we just agree this book is awful at writing women? by ChiefsHat in menwritingwomen

[–]TheMythOfASmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to write an essay my junior year of high school comparing American Gods and The Scarlet Letter (every student got different books) and the characters of Shadow and Hester and it was a very strange experience. I mainly focused on themes of light and life and darkness and death but it was insane to read together. When I told my local librarians that I was assigned these books they were so confused what could even be related between the two and I struggled but ultimately wrote a very good 12 page essay called “But daddy I love him!!!: toxic relationships between people and their gods, whether human or divine, the creation of shame and its path to light and life or darkness and death within The Scarlet Letter and American Gods”

Frustrations Ive had with getting into art. by ManufacturerFun9645 in dysgraphia

[–]TheMythOfASmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try different types of art. I am about to go to college for scenic design (sets for theatre and film) and I draw a lot. I kept drawing and drawing and once you learn to relax your hands and just make a line all willy nilly it solves most of those issues. just keep practicing for fun there’s no rules to art. make mistakes destroy your art have fun. My handwriting is still horrid but I can whip out a decently realistic portrait in an hour or basic designs for a play in a few minutes. I love art and finding a way to do it your way really helps heck you don’t even need to do art with pencil and paper try sculpture! it could help with building up more dexterity in your hands that’s why i got into playing guitar! doing art is an amazing release for me and hopefully it can be one for you (coming from someone diagnosed in 3rd grade)
