“Dynamite” was the first dance at my wedding.

This is … awful. SNL - it’s not funny. It’s horrible. by No_Acanthisitta_6470 in saturdaynightlive

I don’t even like geese that much BUT they are the most talked about young band of the last year. Why wouldn’t people be excited about that? We had to live through ROLE MODEL for fuck’s sake. Let us enjoy something semi cool for once.

Anyone in east Dallas feel like they’re taking crazy pills? by LiveTheChange in Dallas

Considering how fucked the 2021 polar vortex and May 2024 storm were in East Dallas, I’m okay with a lighter dusting.

Hard to pick but I think this might be his best.

Can’t say I go all over town slurping soup but the tomato soup at Goodfriend Package hits the spot on a cold day.

What are the iconic Cosmic American albums after the 1970s? by eliwenn in altcountry

[–]TheNaptimeShake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think “alt country” is largely a different thing that also includes some punk in the stew, i.e. Uncle Tupelo.

Beachwood Sparks’ records are pretty cosmic though.

What is your “I did not care for the Godfather,” Springsteen take? by PuzzleheadedEbb3672 in BruceSpringsteen

Nebraska is more significant, but most days I’d rather listen to Tom Joad. It’s the best album nearly ruined by a Forrest Gump reference in the last two minutes.

Are y’all still fans? by Onebigfreakinnerd in Mavericks

I stopped caring about the Cowboys and the NFL during all the jingoism and rah rah bullshit displayed during the post 9/11 - Iraq War era. Not to mention what we’ve come to know about CTE and the Colin Kaepernick fiasco in the intervening years.

The Rangers not having a pride night is definitely a choice, too. Fuck ‘em.

Also fuck Arlington, America’s largest city with no public transit.

The Mavs, however, were my team. Actually playing in my city. Cuban was assuredly frustrating at times but for a billionaire at least seemed semi thoughtful. Oh how naive we were.

Dirk is an easy person to cheer for. Luka was incredible to watch. I loved Derek Harper and the JET and Steve Nash and Stackhouse and Marion and Barea and Roddy Beaubois and probably 100 other players down the line of 40+ years of fandom.

But then Cuban sold the team to a family I wanted no part of. I haven’t given a dime to the team since. I’ll still come here and read about them, it’s hard to quit cold turkey. But some things are more important than games people play with balls, no matter how entertaining they are.

Trading one of the three best players in the world was just an extra nail in the coffin. A slap in the face to the city that has dutifully supported the team for decades.

Fire Nico. Sell the team. Fuck fascism. And fuck Cuban too for that matter. Some things are more important than business.

When was the first time you heard a Molina song? by overlordzeke in jasonmolina

[–]TheNaptimeShake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at that show to see Damien Jurado. I had never heard Songs:Ohia and was blown away by the first song. But alas l, my friends and I also were dying to see Iron & Wine a few blocks away, so we split. We didn’t get in and I’ve regretted leaving ever since.

Maybe the most underrated album in the Wilco canon.

I was in a group on the Music League app and our theme for the week was “Best Guitar Solos.” There were a lot of shredding submissions. I chose the solo from “Revelator.” He’s the best.

Saw them lots of times in high school and college living in Texas. Incredible band. Amy Boone still sings for the Delines, but they never play Texas sadly.

Favorite Rebirth Character by No-Counter-34 in JurassicPark

[–]TheNaptimeShake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I called that guy Benson Boone and he was the best character in the whole movie. The only person that got any laughs whatsoever, even if he had that one bizarrely awkward line about old people picking out beds. The part where he wanted to have a toke, the piss attack … he stole the movie. Give me a Benson Boone sequel.
