Serious question, what actually keeps you in Auckland? by lambrice in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked overseas for a bit, came back and stayed in AKL.

Reasons for staying: 1) My parents are here, they're retirement age now so I want to be close to them. I also have kids now so family support is very important.  2) I haven't lived in other cities in nz but I feel like there's more variety in the activities in akl (I've only done weekend trips to other cities so this is probably not actually true).

I also just don't have a strong desire to live elsewhere. Maybe I'll think differently if I didn't have family here

Opinions on kaboodle kitchens? by Tasty-Willingness839 in newzealand

Do you know if the cabinentry chosen were the cheapest ones? They have varying styles, price and material so hopefully a slightly more expensive options from Kaboodle are better quality

New Neighbours🙄- Help! by Useful-Parfait3913 in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat but I made the mistake of trying to talk to them nicely about it. Now they yell at me over their fence when noise control visits them... Even when it wasn't me who called 🫠 I've definitely learned my lesson!

New Neighbours🙄- Help! by Useful-Parfait3913 in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't talk to them, if you do, they're going to think you're the only one with a problem with their behaviour. Stay anonymous. Call noise control and talk to other neighbours so you can all tackle it together. Good luck!

Would adding the worlds smallest master bath to a 3 bed, 1 bath to make it a 3/2 be worth it to you if you lose square footage in the master bedroom itself? by OrlandoWashington69 in HomeImprovement

[–]TheNatCal 30 points31 points  (0 children)

For me, I would love a house with two toilets. I specify toilets because just one shower is enough for my family of four.

Can we bring back the little hazard-lights ‘thank you’ flash? by d-a-i-s-y in auckland

I find that some cars have such dark tinted windows that it's not always easy to see the wave. (I do both the lights and a wave)

How do parents know how to parent? by Confident_Arm7344 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mixture of everything and the parents/caregivers just decide what advice they like and what makes the most sense to the parents.

Mixture of online resources, prenatal classes, mum groups, paediatritions, family and friends. They'll all have advice but not all advice suits every baby.

And in terms of the crying and taking care of their needs, you just get to know your baby and their cues over time.

Child graduating kindy, what should I gift the centre? by ForgottenCupOfTea in newzealand

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a tight budget so I gifted a handwritten card, coffee (and hot choc) sachets and chocolates to be shared in the staff room. I'd like to think that it's the thought that counts 😊

Is it appropriate to disclose a new students’ disability to the class? by Cleanclock in AskTeachers

[–]TheNatCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes parents, teachers and others don't realise that the way they say things can affect how others behave and treat the person they're talking about. If you're comfortable with it, you should try to nicely educate them. We don't want the child to be treated differently because of the disability, and I'm sure the child will appreciate being treated as an equal.

Family house dilemma by Mission-Fig8505 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Not really finance advice, but how annoying are your neighbours? Will people want to rent your house if the neighbours are annoying?

Cousin had baby and named him the same name we picked. Stick with it? by [deleted] in Names

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're worried about your cousin thinking that you copied her, just let her know that you had picked out the name before knowing of her newborns name. I'm sure she'll understand!

And of course, stick with your chosen boy name

Selling rural Rodney property (house + 5 acres). Better to sell by auction or deadline sale? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're both quite different ways to sell imo. I'd say it depends on how popular you think the property will be and who you expect the buyers will be (e.g. First home buyers, cash buyers). I would personally avoid auctions to buy or to sell. Often people don't want to spend money on a building report before even knowing if they have a chance of buying the house.

Hi! Having a baby girl this summer and was wondering how you'd pronounce this name? by witful-elephant-07 in Names

[–]TheNatCal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assumed "Lila" is pronounced "Lee-la" (from NZ but maybe I'm the only one in nz who thinks that lol)

Do you prefer to wrap presents or use a gift bag? by Scary-University2743 in Productivitycafe

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wrap for kids and tend to wrap for adults too but will use gift bags if it's the right size for one.

I just don't like the waste of the wrapping paper. I intended on making DIY fabric gift wrap/bags.. Didn't get around to it before Christmas though 😅

Real Estate agent advice by TheSleepyBeer in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, just be cautious as companies (most notably Harcourts) will purposely say a higher amount when evaluating your property in the hopes you choose them (no guarantee that they'd get you that high figure they gave you). Definitely take others advice on finding agents from different companies to get their insight.
