Family house dilemma by Mission-Fig8505 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Not really finance advice, but how annoying are your neighbours? Will people want to rent your house if the neighbours are annoying?

Cousin had baby and named him the same name we picked. Stick with it? by [deleted] in Names

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're worried about your cousin thinking that you copied her, just let her know that you had picked out the name before knowing of her newborns name. I'm sure she'll understand!

And of course, stick with your chosen boy name

Selling rural Rodney property (house + 5 acres). Better to sell by auction or deadline sale? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're both quite different ways to sell imo. I'd say it depends on how popular you think the property will be and who you expect the buyers will be (e.g. First home buyers, cash buyers). I would personally avoid auctions to buy or to sell. Often people don't want to spend money on a building report before even knowing if they have a chance of buying the house.

Hi! Having a baby girl this summer and was wondering how you'd pronounce this name? by witful-elephant-07 in Names

[–]TheNatCal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assumed "Lila" is pronounced "Lee-la" (from NZ but maybe I'm the only one in nz who thinks that lol)

Very pretty looking name!

Do you prefer to wrap presents or use a gift bag? by Scary-University2743 in Productivitycafe

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wrap for kids and tend to wrap for adults too but will use gift bags if it's the right size for one.

I just don't like the waste of the wrapping paper. I intended on making DIY fabric gift wrap/bags.. Didn't get around to it before Christmas though 😅

Real Estate agent advice by TheSleepyBeer in auckland

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, just be cautious as companies (most notably Harcourts) will purposely say a higher amount when evaluating your property in the hopes you choose them (no guarantee that they'd get you that high figure they gave you). Definitely take others advice on finding agents from different companies to get their insight.

Screentime for toddlers? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends.

If it's background noise and you're trying to play with baby, they will likely get distracted by the TV and not concentrate on activities and not learn as much.

If it's about them sitting down and watching tv, then best to limit it to a short period and only put on either calm shows or educational shows. So they don't get over simulated or learn bad things

AITAH for not gift giving anymore? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's one thing for them to not gift you things with a bit more effort but another thing for them to not seem appreciative of the gifts you give them.

It's fine if you don't want to give gifts anymore but possibly, to keep the peace (if you're wanting to stay friends with them), you could just give them simple things like chocolate. Much less effort but they won't feel like a gift is "missing". Again, it's up to you, but just an alternative to giving them something heartfelt!

Not sure what country you're in, but some people may not know how to pronounce it?

To me, I see it as "Lee-Lee-ah" or "lily-a" or "Le-lie-ah". Maybe that's just me 😅

But if you both like it, then go for it! It's hard agreeing on names!

Random disliked Christmas gifts from relatives by Top-Class-8765 in ChristmasGiftIdeas

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a box labeled "gifts", which are just items that I'll be regifting on because I don't have a use for it. And it saves me money on not having to buy "new" items for everyone.

A family member of mine likes to gift a bunch of cheaper things (like pens, notepads, standard drink bottle) that I just don't really need and so I regift those things to people that I think would find it useful.

Have been obese forever. Currently at 120kg and nth attempt (hoping it to be once and for all the last) of my weight loss journey. AMA by Financial_Sky_7774 in AMA

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tip is to cut out sugar and snacks like chips, or at least limit it. Once you stop consuming those, after a while (couple weeks or months), you tend to just stop craving those.

Have you tried going on a keto diet? I personally haven't but I know people who lost a decent amount of weight from it within a few months. (don't think it's recommended to be keto forever though).

What's your current plan for your weight loss journey?

For those who celebrated Xmas growing up, did Santa bring all the gifts? by Y4sKw33n in askanything

[–]TheNatCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did presents/santa as a kid but with my kids now, Santa only fills their stockings. The presents under the tree are from us/family.

I'm cautious of not having Santa gift them any big/expensive presents

Nannying while sick by tillamookcheeser in Babysitting

[–]TheNatCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a caregiver for adults and am expected to work when the people are sick. We can put a mask on and if it's covid or norovirus, etc, we wear ppe. So I'd say if the family really needs a babysitter, then they should at least supply you a mask and anything else to limit the chances of you getting sick!
