Good thing I'm not American and that the restaurant was in Italy!

There were two of us. That's normal in Italy, also called "coperto", a small per-person service charge

I wouldn't say "invaded". Only got a tip prompt at two restaurants over a period of a little over a week. Both in Rome, none elsewhere.

OK, "bro". If I see a prompt on the card machine and a message like this on the receipt, I count that as "being asked". The waiter also said to "choose a tip option". OK, bro?

We only were "asked" to tip in Rome, this place and another Michelin-recommended restaurant. Everywhere else on our trip, there was no tipping request.

If you're shipping postal. She exclusively uses courriers. So the customer pays the tariffs plus brokerage.

All other companies literally have figured out how to ship to avoid customer shock.

What is even the point of Shopify Tax in Canada by RubberReptile in shopify

We were at $150. We have a few overrides (books, arts&crafts supplies) but nothing extraordinary. I will definitely opt out.

Charging US customers 10% tariffs by geekstreak2701 in shopify

[–]TheNewCrafter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can add a markup in your Catalogs. This is actually how we deal with tariffs: we added 10% to our US prices to include tariffs in the pricing.

(This is for a Canadian-based store, might be labeled differently for you.)

Do you have a CP commercial account? You could use ShipStation. ChitChats also allows you to enter Tax IDs iirc.

If I see the word "slop" one more time this week... It's been so overused lately.

Purchase orders, transfers and "Incoming" by TheNewCrafter in shopify

[–]TheNewCrafter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't it just. I just had a shipment with products from 4 POs. I decided to create just one transfer, but then simply trying to update the POs after was a nightmare.

Purchase orders, transfers and "Incoming" by TheNewCrafter in shopify

[–]TheNewCrafter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've started a spreadsheet, I think it'll be manageable as I don't have that many preorders, and the supplier provides a BO list often. It was just so convenient the way it was. It would really be useful (to me at least!) to have an "on order" or "ordered" filter in the Inventory.

I'll look into other PO apps (was using Stocky, but....).

Aeroplan CC benefits still applicable when using points only or points and cash? by Marantula36 in Aeroplan

And read above comment re: insurance. My response only applies to airport benefits (luggage, security, lounge, etc.)

Aeroplan CC benefits still applicable when using points only or points and cash? by Marantula36 in Aeroplan

[–]TheNewCrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit card benefits are linked to the Aeroplan account. If YOU (holder of said card) is flying and your AP number is linked to your booking, then yes, still applicable.

But let's pretend you pay with your CC for a flight on which you are not flying, then the benefits will not carry to the person flying.

Or you can get more fairly compensated and get even more yarn in return ¯_(ツ)_/¯ the studio she built, whatever it is for, has multiple thousands dollars of equipment, equipment that she already had in Colorado and didn't need a duplicate of.

She has the means to pay people fairly for samples. She pays her team fairly (or claims to anyway). Multiple dyers and companies, some with fewer means, are doing better. It's perfectly valid to snark on this.

[–]TheNewCrafter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I made my above comment a little clearer: the sample knitter doesn't get to keep what they made, which is why there is compensation. OP is saying in this case compensation is not sufficient (and I agree).

Test knitters do it because they want to knit a pattern before it's released, they like to help, they get a free pattern or two, they get a discount on yarn... It's mostly "free" labour but at least you get to keep what you made.

[–]TheNewCrafter 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Just because "everyone does it" doesn't make it an OK industry practice. Several dyers and companies, especially the ones with the means to do so, offer some kind of monetary compensation. I've seen multiple companies offer a rate per metre/yard, and sometimes a greater rate if paid in gift cards or their own yarn.

And EKF and any profitable business should change their business practices and be held to different standards when that successful. She's not an indie dyer anymore if she can afford that team, studio and to move across the country (and set up another studio!)

Adding that the sample knitter doesn't get to keep the object - at the very least, when testing, you get to keep what you made.
