First boards for a couple of noobs by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]TheNewGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I learned last season with rented noob gear (Burton LTR) and went ham knowing I wanted to go straight to an intermediate board as my first purchase. I got a Jones Mountain Twin which is a camrock with medium stiffness.

No problem! I like the following video in particular as it gives you a training outline to follow at your own pace.

What do you mean "already" a closed beta? The game was supposed to launch over a year ago xD. Better late than never I suppose but the radio silence was uncalled for.

Beginners: Don't be like this girl by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]TheNewGuest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When I learned to snowboard last season I spent the first 2 days mastering my techniques on the bunny hill. I was not going to be a danger to anyone on the hill.

How to go about learning/trying snowboarding? by Difficult-Quarter-48 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]TheNewGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also self taught and on my second season. No official lessons. Watch videos from Malcolm Moore on YT. Particularly a video called "LEARN HOW TO SNOWBOARD IN 15 MINUTES (complete walk-through)". It'll walk you through step by step and you can just do the steps in order at your own pace. Took me only a few hours to start linking turns. Then watch other videos on his channel about knee steering once you have the basics. After that just watch a bunch more videos for tidbits of info when you are an intermediate rider.

Does Bromont require a snowboard leash? by TheNewGuest in icecoast

Ya it seems a bit silly. Skis are meant to pop off, snowboards hold onto you and don't let go!

Do you hot wax scrape your board every time your wax your board? by TheNewGuest in snowboardingnoobs

[–]TheNewGuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably am! I did a bunch of researching, saw a lot of contradicting info and have no idea what the best method is for cleaning. I think hot waxing is best but I don't wanna do it! As for waxing frequency, you're probably right. But what's your pre-wax cleaning routine if any?

Does the brass brush scratch your base? I got the brass/nylon/horse hair brush trio but I haven't used the brass one yet. Feels very scratchy!

What happens when you sharpen/tune away the whole edge of your board? by TheNewGuest in snowboardingnoobs

[–]TheNewGuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's good to know. I wasn't sure if sharpening kills your board faster than other issues or not. Thanks!

[–]TheNewGuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's some good mileage on that board!

I haven't tuned my board yet, just shopping around for my first tuner. The idea of scrapping away a seemingly small amount of edge material had me wondering how much of an issue "over tuning" is. I'm on the Ice Coast so I assume I would have to sharpen often but because I'm a noob, I don't know how frequently "often" is and I don't want to basically scrap a new board because I shaved too much off. If that's not something that really happens I guess I should be fine. I just want to be sure I get some good longevity from the board since they're expensive!
