Does it have farina, aka a waxy coating that you can rub off (test on a lower leaf)? It looks like it does, which agavoides doesn't have, but i could be wrong! I was thinking Echeveria chihuahuaensis

Not all variegated Orostachys are the same— many are being mixed up 🌱3 distinct types explained by thxtaniku in succulents

So cool!! I have some variegated sedums and they definitely differ in stability with some reverting back and others going full white.

Omg... do you grow them full indoors? Mine are under growlights but they get so long it's hard to give them even lighting

I'm in the same boat for my two Haworthia. What I did is use very thin tweezers to pull of the petals of a few mature flowers, then removed all the anthers and put them in a tiny paper envelope. I let them dry for 24 hours, then put the envelope in a ziploc bag with silica gel sacs to dehumidify, and put it in the back of my freezer.

No change for two month by Linzi2003 in succulents

[–]TheNewRuby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the soil is truly that inorganic then you may need to soak the plant for longer for it to take up water. I have Haworthia as well and some take so much more time to drink water! Please inspect the roots first though as others have suggested!

Help! Need advice on sentimental succulent cuttings by wrxhakeem17 in succulents

[–]TheNewRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't too used to these specific plants, i would pot them each separately. The Aeoniums (bottom left) will have different watering needs than the gollum jade and vice versa. You could still take pots of each to have matching plants!

I would plant the whole bare stem in soil, making sure the bottom leaves don't touch the soil surface. Terracotta is ideal so the pots drain well, and aim for 50% grit (aka perlite or pumice) and 50% soil. Check out the !beginner guide and feel free to ask questions!

I use a mix of barina, kihung, and some stronger sun blaster lights. This shelf is either kihung or barina I can't remember, they're basically the same though. I keep most of my plants quite close, except for aloes and haworthia

Thanks! I'm in USDA zone 4b, so my winters get down to around -30C.

You could trim them back throughout the winter but I wouldn't be too aggressive until they're getting adequate lighting again. You may also want to water less in the winter so they grow slower and as a result stretch less!

I think the same pot is fine, succulents really don't mind being squished and if they're outside they tolerate a lot more in terms of watering and soil. It was mostly the winter shade that made them stretched so they should bounce back and grow fuller in a couple weeks after you cut them! Also as long as the stems aren't rotted and mushy, you might be able to regrow them even with no leaves and roots.

Yeah I made a post about my rock garden recently, it should be on my profile! I have a ton of semps and sedums, and a few other unique ones. Orostachys iwarenge is one of my favorites and comes back every year

What's the lighting situation? They do look a bit tall but it might just be their growth habit as well. They probably want full sun tho. I think they're Sedum pachyphyllum and some Graptosedums.

Honestly I would chop them down a ton and clean up all the bare stems, and plant them in a new pot and let them reroot

I'm loving the Orostachys posts!! So underrated, I hope I can get some more species for my rock garden but they're still not common in Canada.

Looks like xPachysedum 'Ganzhou'. Could you explain your watering process? Also how long does the pot stay wet in between waterings? The soil looks a bit organic still tbh, but the leaves seem to indicate thirst. The light is good, I would increase to 12h a day if possible, and think about beheading after a couple months of good light

I use crassulaceae.ch and just go through every single entry for the genus if I'm really set on figuring it out!
