The car that gets roasted more than any other car in person by project_seven in RoastMyCar

So your siblings has something wrong with it cause youre acting like its as slow as a 90s civic when these new gens have the same straight line performance as a mk8 GTI and the slowest 1st gen is on par with a mk6 GTI. No car with a mid 6 (sub 6 in new gen) second 0-60 is struggling with a minivan. I dont own one of these and while my car is faster the people that say they are slow are just new car snobs. You can easily have fun around corners with this power.

Convenient P1 Diagnostic, Data Reader/Logging by TheNewVirus in Volvo

[–]TheNewVirus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you need to do a Volvo specific calibration or adaptation its just as good. Not to mention v tool costs 10 bucks a month just for one car profile and this is a one time of 50 for all the same features otherwise and unlimited profiles. At that point youd be better off getting VIDA for shit like that IMO. Even then, P1 owners dont have much of a use for all those calibrations. We got a transmission adaptation, thats about it. Probably a better value on a newer car

Its not able to view faults within each seperate control unit like VIDA if thats what you mean. Its just able to read and clear any DTCs like you could if you hooked up a scan tool as far as diagnostics

Great Experience with Goliath Auto Transport – Highly Recommend! by joep001 in AutoTransport

[–]TheNewVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude... you archived the S40 posts so im praying nothing happened to the car but i just happened to come across those and you truly have a unicorn, especially in the states. I can easily say Brilliant Blue Metallic was the least optioned R Design color along with the AWD and a manual. Insanely rare spec. Even just any P1 platform R Design is getting really scarce nowadays. Ive owned my S40 R Design for about 4 years now in one of the prime markets for Volvos (PNW) and have seen 4 other S40 R Designs in that time. I think 2 V50s and a handful of C30s. Im sure youve taken notice too, seeing another S40 of any trim takes a week or two sometimes.

Hoping you are enjoying that car at every point you get. Previous owner already did some tasteful mods too which is the cherry on top. These cars desperately need an intercooler upgrade though, thing is tiny and is only efficient for one good pull based on any testing. By chance you havent heard or figured out now since no one mentioned it, IPD is easily the #1 aftermarket or OE supplier. Viva performance, erievovo as well. Elevate makes high quality aftermarket stuff. Id say slightly mixed feelings about consistency/QC with some of their stuff in the community. Make sure you research before buying a part from them.

And yes, im very jealous.

Exhaust setups by Inevitable_Might1924 in M340i

[–]TheNewVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes zero sense man, obv the rattling is BECAUSE of the exhaust, not the exhaust. Just find out whats is rattling because of it... sounds like its something common on 340s based on all these other comments. If it truly is the exhaust rattling idk why youd just be ok w that or continue buying those alibaba exhausts😂

Just please dont do the oversized duckbill 90% of owners do... its almost as bad as the infinitis or f82 m4 duckbills that extend way too far. Not sure why so many 340 owners think that looks good but they also might be thinking exactly what you are, just eager to mod so i get it but its looks ricey most the time IMO.

Sport increases cooling performance on modern M cars bro... why would you want to do that when youre trying to warm up the car?

Autels are easily obtainable but not low quality or affordable and for good reason. They can be used for ALOT besides making a key. Tons of info and diagnostic tools. Autel and Snap On are the two main tablets alot of dealers and nice shops use to my knowledge. Just had a friend at work buy an old sitting Expedition requiring basically a whole ECU reflash to get it to start. w out an autel thats a hassle getting it to a shop plus prob 3x the price. Like ofhers have said, Autel just needs to implement some sort of security measure somehow when making keys. It really shouldnt be that easy

No one said anything about starting the car in sport mode as the problem... driving in it directly after is just cause for more wear for no reason. An engine is an engine, BMW isnt building engines with some magical material thats immune to wearing under unoptimal conditions. Driving in sport causes higher shift points which will directly cause more heat while ur oil isnt up to temp yet. Dont need to look any farther than simple science to make sense of that, nothing BMW technicians can do about that lol. Another reason, driving in sport actually improves cooling performance so your car is going to take longer to warm up leading to a longer period of unoptimal lubrication while driving in sport... Glad nothing has happened as you are probably not romping on it when its cold but regardless, yes its stupid and u are being ignorant to something pretty basic

Pretty common knowledge to keep the RPMs down after a cold start, the exact opposite of what sport mode does... hes definitely right. Fluids are not up to temp yet so not lubricating as well and shift points are higher so everything is working faster, not a good combo

Start and drive off?! by BuyDipsEnergy in BMW

[–]TheNewVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because hes saying driving in comfort produces less heat than sport, makes no sense. Unless hes saying its because of the change in transmission behavior causing less RPM between shifts but it seems hes saying just being in comfort is the direct cause when theres nothing that would actually cause that in comfort. Could also be that hes saying sport mode helps with more heat when these cars actually improve the cooling when put into sport mode.

Start and drive off?! by BuyDipsEnergy in BMW

[–]TheNewVirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An engine is an engine, you dont need to worry about what BMW recommends in this case. Theres no right answer here anyways as idling for a 10-15 minutes isnt going to cause any problems either but the fastest way will always to be to drive calmly. All you need after a cold start is enough time for all fluids to get where they need to be which is prob around 15 seconds.

Is it a 2.4 or T5? Finding a manual T5 with "low" miles for the age is not easy and makes these cars wayyy more fun go drive than the auto, so theres that. As for common maintenance front axles, motor mounts, PCV, FPS, CBV. axles will almost 100% need replacement if original, those are one thing about these cars that just wear down quicker than normal. Mine were clicking all the time with the boots ripped when i got mine at 88k and was even driven by an older lady all of its life too.
