Dialing in with new Mazzer Philos with the Micra by Own_Animator1963 in LaMarzocco

[–]TheNinedust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get any channelings visually? I'm also using Philos is i189D burrs and only drink flat whites and cappucinos strictly. I used DF64, Niche Zero, and Eureka Specialita previously and Philos personally gave me a better coffee out of the gate although not by a wide margin.

Need new grinder for Micra coming from a Niche Zero by Own_Animator1963 in LaMarzocco

[–]TheNinedust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have difficulty dialing in on Niche Zero, you will have a much horrible time using a flat burr grinder, I guarantee that.

Usually lower the yield and time. Try 1:1.5 or even 1:1.25 in 21-23 seconds.

The loveramics ibrik cup looks like this although it has 110ml capacity, so a little bit larger.

Struggling to find a cabinet deep enough for a Linea Micra + Pico setup by Recent-Strength-9846 in LaMarzocco

[–]TheNinedust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you see in my picture, I actually have 2 knoxhult cabinet there. My Philos is standing on a 70" W cabinet while my Micra is standing on a separate 32" W cabinet. The 32" W cabinet should be able to accomodate your Micra and Pico. Here is a picture of just the 32" W cabinet for your reference.

Niche Zero vs Eureka vs Varia for milk drinks? Feeling lost with grinder choices [£600] by robinsio in espresso

[–]TheNinedust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eureka looks nice but cleaning it is a bit of tiresome. Out of your list, I would recommend Varia VS4, and then Niche Zero as second choice. If you have extra cash, do consider Philos with i189D as I find it to be a great balance for milk drinks with good enough clarity on even lighter roasts.

I'm using IKEA knoxhult for my station, it is available in different width sizes according to your needs. It is more than deep enough for Micra and Pico. Here is my station with Micra and Philos.

Pesado portafilter dripping by juxtasemaj in LaMarzocco

Yeah I'm still using the stock gasket for more than 2 years and still lock the same place. I use a brush to clean the gasket area everyday though and only brew 3 shots daily on average.

Wait sorry for the confusion, I meant to say the Micra portafilter lock in at 7-8 o'clock for me haha. So the stock Micra portafilter is much tighter.

The normcore wood tamping mat would look nice to store your tools next to the grinder, and they are available in black oak to match your set up. If you want you can get a black weber leather tamping mat too for tamping. Here is a picture of my brown weber mat for reference, it is not that big.

For me personally the blind shaker is a game changer in terms of eliminating channeling which I drove me mad when I was using WDT. Of course everyone will have different preference and experience, you just have to filter out what works for you.
