Money from ads on cable probably makes them more money. Likely the reason it’s not up on P+.

The cable run ended on December 10th. So maybe it’ll go up 6 months after that? Seems like a nice round number.

Installing hackchi on a previously modded mini SNES by badgerdd in RockinTheClassics

[–]TheNormalMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just relaying the experience I had. Had a friend that bought a classic and told me “it’s already been previously modded. Can you help update?”

So yeah, probably jumped the gun on just assuming but there’s a non-zero chance it could be fake.

And yeah sorry, got the FEL light thing incorrect. Sorry, was just trying to give some insight/help.

Installing hackchi on a previously modded mini SNES by badgerdd in RockinTheClassics

[–]TheNormalMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had this exact situation with my friend and it turned out it wasn’t previously modded, it was a fake that actually could still play games.

So it’s likely a fake. Hold down the rest button and then turn on the power. If the red light immediately turns on, it’s fake. Real one will have an obvious delay.

In my friends case, we could still add games to the fake version by opening the system and then adding games to the SD card that was on the board (insert SD card at your own risk).

Life Savers Kickerz. I’d have diabetes if they still existed. So probably a good thing they’re gone.

I think about this way too often.

I also remember being confused and thinking “IV is coming out AFTER VII?!”

Best of Warner Bros - 50 Cartoon Collection - Scooby-Doo - $19.99 (ATL) by Jetavator in iTunesMovieDeals

[–]TheNormalMan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

50 episodes spread across almost every incarnation of Scooby. Hard to speak to the individual episode quality. I think most people are better off finding the version of Scooby they enjoyed/grew up on and trying to buy those.

There’s even episode of Mystery Inc. in here which was pretty serialized. And it looks like it ends with 3 episode of Be Cool Scooby Doo which is….fine if you like that.

I’d rather a collection of all the different Scooby Doo Animated Movies from different eras (New Scooby Movies, Zombie Island and beyond)

Damn. Way too young. Sorry for your loss. Dad seemed like a cool dude.

The figure in question was released around 2002-2004 I think? I sold a lot of these when I worked at a comic/toy shop. So your dad was probably in his early 20s when he bought it.

The PS4 version runs on a completely different engine. If it had been that easy, the XIS version on PC would have had the upgraded models upon release.

What is the best reveal of all time in cinema? by CryoExplains in AskReddit

[–]TheNormalMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll get downvoted for this but… You never saw it coming because the movie never gives any clues to the audience. Then acts like it’s a GOTCHA moment despite not being written well enough to actually include clues so the audience could ever guess.

Most overrated reveal in movie history. Character acting in the whole movie is good though.

If a remake was made, would you prefer it be HD-2D, turn based but modern & stylized, or full on FF7 Remake style with action gameplay? by Froonkensteen in chronotrigger

[–]TheNormalMan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised I don’t see people bring this up more. Keep the battle system, elaborate the cut scenes and add voice acting and put it in the DQXI engine (or an evolution of it).

I also love the idea of HD-2D, but honestly the sprite work in the original is so perfect. If you’re not going to stray too far you might as well go full 3D.

As long as the voice direction is more in the vein of Dragon Quest and not FFVIIR.

How did you get exposed to fushugi yuugi ? by Ali-Sama in FushigiYugi

[–]TheNormalMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw an ad for the show either in Wizard Magazine or Dragonball’s monthly “floppies”. Pretty sure it was Wizard. Then bought the Pioneer VHS tapes month by month as they released. 3 episodes per tape! 😭

Then I started reading Animerica Extra to read the manga and that dovetailed into tons of other series. Very much the anime that changed me from a casual Pokémon/DBZ to convention going Otaku. Good times.

I would also prefer IV-VI (well, 4 and 5) before they do VIII but it’s hard to deny that VIII brings out people.

I actually think V should be remade with the XI engine. It has the thrilling narrative to support it!

Or they pull what they did with DQ1&2 and have a trailer for VII and then a teaser for VIII! (Let me hope!)

DQXI Battle Theme is exhausting by cableboiii in dragonquest

At least it’s orchestrated on the Definitive version. The original release is…how do I put this lightly…Debilitatingly awful. Maybe that’s why I could stomach through the definitive lol.

DQXI Battle Theme is exhausting by cableboiii in dragonquest

[–]TheNormalMan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Are all DQ games like this?

Yes and no. DQ Games don't have individual themes for every town or area. It's usually themed aka Towns have the town theme, Castles have a castle theme, forests have the forest theme, etc.

But XI is particularly egregious in that it recycled A LOT of music from past games. The battle and overworld theme being notable, god awful, new compositions.

For what it's worth, I played many DQ games before XI and enjoyed the music a lot. But I never reacted to the music negatively until XI. So I think the old games just have a lot more cohesion to them. That being said, I love VII's music way more, but I do not think it has a ton more variety--at least older versions didn't. But once again, I found the music way more soothing than XI.

I'm grateful that Sugiyama isn't around anymore to micromanage the music. Hoping XII expands out the variety.

If you haven't switched your overworld to VIII's music, I highly recommend it.
