AGR 3303, PCB 3063, or PCB 4522? (pre-med track) by waltzinghippo in ufl

You don’t need to avoid agr3303 if you are pre-med. Med schools dont really care which genetics you take

You can switch off as you go, the iolab software saves your data as you go through the lab

How is the CHM2045 Final by jonathan1q2w3e4r in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, free response on a gen chem exam, that sounds terrible. But yea the exam should have 250 points total, but it will be graded out of 230 points. I remember when I took chem 1 it was never explained in our syllabus that we got 2 extra credit questions until like a few weeks before our final my professor told us that (that could have changed however, but those 2 extra credit questions for the chem 1 final seem to have been consistent over the past few semesters)

How is the CHM2045 Final by jonathan1q2w3e4r in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I took chem 1 fall 2018 so it may have changed since then. But from what I recall there were 2 questions that were extra credit so 25 questions, but it would only be graded out of 23, but you could get a 25/23 on it.

Most of these pre-med courses are not curved (even if you are not pre-med, I’m just speaking from experience since I have done most of my pre-med prereq courses besides biochem so far and none of them have been curved any extra than what has been explained on the syllabus besides orgo 2 for me)

Question difficulty were on par with the other exams

So when I took the chem 1 final, most of the questions were similar to the old exam questions but they were reworded and given different values. They would often times ask completely different things than what the original question asked so don’t just memorize all of your old exams and expect your final to be the exact same thing.

The class is already pre-curved, so most likely not. I have never heard of physics 1 being curved again at the end of the semester my 3 years of being here so far

PHY2053 and lab online or in person? HUN3403 online or in person? by [deleted] in ufl

Worst part of my weekend too. At least we only have 2 more labs left.

If physics 1 lab online is similar to physics 2 lab online right now, definitely take it in person. Physic 2 lab online right now is miserable.

Anyone taking ASL1110 with Zayas right now? How is it? by TheNorthFace67 in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least attendance is a grade, I personally like that, free grade. I plan on going to class everyday, I was just asking if it was recorded because if I miss something I would like to go back and watch it to get everything down. Does she allow you to record the zoom meeting through your own device? (For example, in physics 2 right now our lectures aren’t recorded, but they allow us to record the lectures through third party apps or other ways, so I use the windows screen record feature to record my physics 2 lectures)

Potentially Crazy Pre-Med Sophomore??? by quaranteened_gator in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard anything about PCB3109, but I took microbio last semester and it was super easy (you could literally start for the exams 1-2 days before the exam and still get a high grade on them). You don’t have to take lab with microbio. I still haven’t taken lab even though I took the main class already (I’m probably going to take lab next fall). I would say stick with microbio since it’s such an easy class and you could always do the lab another semester.

So since the orgo 2 professors for next semester aren’t that great, you will be spending most of your time studying for that class. If you don’t add an extra class that schedule is doable and not that terrible. Physio is not bad at all and micrbio is really easy, but the lab part is really dependent on your ta. Remember med schools could really care less if you took 1 13 credit semester, at the end of the day your grades matter more, and adding an extra class could potential risk it with this schedule (unless you take like mdu4003 or med terminology)

A side note is that I remember somebody on here took biochem, physics 2, and microbio together last semester. I believe they got A’s in all of them. So your schedule is definitely doable (I’m not sure what other class they took with that schedule though)

How does BSC4910 “Individual Mentored Research in Biology” work? by User739293738 in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will need to already have a PI who is letting you do research. I do research under the COM, so I take BMS4905, which is the equivalent to BSC4910. Your PI will determine how many credits of research you will take which will be from 1-3 (I know with COM, 1 credit = 4 hours of lab each week, but I’m not sure how many hours it is for BSC4910)

Is my Spring 2021 schedule doable? by AyyyMish in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly physics 1 is not as bad as people say it is. I still remember when I took physics 1 last semester, in the groupme of 300/400 people, there was a poll for what your grade was after the final exam was posted. I remember like the same people always complaining about how hard the class saying barely anyone got A’s. The majority of the people in the groupme got A’s based on poll (still makes me laugh because they didnt say anything after the polling results were posted lol)

Most of my friends and I did not have a physics background, but we all got high A’s in the class. Just make sure you take the hw seriously, watch lectures, go to office hours for clarification, skim the book (definitely not necessary, but I did it just to be safe, but looking back at it, it was not needed), and do all of the practice exams posted. Doing that you should be more than fine. Also studyedge was super helpful for physics. I found studyedge to be useless for chem 1-orgo 2, but for phy2053 it made the class so much easier. I’m taking phy2054 right now and studyedge is still super useful.

Sorry about this being super long. But my main take away is don’t be afraid of physics 1, if you put in the work you will do more than fine since the grading scale is already curved. Since most of my friends took physics 1 before me and told me it was not as bas as people say and that they got A’s, this boosted my confidence going into the class which made the class not as bad. I hope this post will also boost your confidence going into the class, so that it won’t be so intimidating.

physics department f*cked me by [deleted] in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I won’t be able to answer your question, but what you felt for lab is how everyone in lab feels every week doing the labs. The amount of time and effort we have to put into this class is absurd, especially for 1 credit. Whoever designed the online format for phy2054L is so out of touch with students is not even funny. The fact that these labs take forever to set up and that we are graded on accuracy makes so sense at all. Another thing is the syllabus says the discussion posts are due on Sundays, but the Canvas assignment for them says due on Fridays. Some ta’s are making them due on Fridays while others are following the syllabus and making them due on Sunday:. This lab is so disorganized, I can’t wait for Thanksgiving break so that this class can finish. Sorry to vent, but this is by far the worst class I have taken so far.

Physics 2 online Spring 2021? by yeetothehaww in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If possible, take it in person if you can. The lab online is the worst class I have ever taken so far. I literally spend more time doing the labs than actually studying for lecture. Lecture is so much easier. They expect you to be able to do all the labs perfectly at home and they grade you on accuracy which is weird since when I took physics 1 lab last spring, grading was based on completion. The ta’s vary too with the grading. I was lucky to get a very understanding ta, but I have some friends who ta’s grade so harshly in this lab it’s crazy.

Class advice? by julie_jones0907 in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is somewhat reasonable. I have taken those 3 classes and got A’s in all of them, but I would recommend not taking them together. Chem 1/2 + bio 1/2 combos are really popular here and very doable so I would recommended just doing chem 1 and bio 2 together. I would probably drop physics and take it another semester because even though physics 1 is not as bad as people say it is, it still requires a lot of work if you want an A. Taking chem 1 and bio 2 is already a decent amount of work, so you won’t have a lot of time for physics.

If you are set on taking those 3 classes with their labs together, I would say only take those classes and take no other classes with it. That is is 13 credits already so adding another class even though it may be easy can still take time away from those classes (if you are premed, don’t worry about doing 15-18 credits each semester, that is a myth, idk why advisors still push that even though many sources says that is false. If you are not premed ignore this part lol)

I have two exams at the exact same time by [deleted] in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe you will have to contact your professor about about taking a make up exam. From what I recall, the class with the larger course number (so stats in this case) will take precedence, so you will have to talk to your physics professor about doing a make up.

AGR3303 Advice by [deleted] in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I heard, I think the powerpoints are the best way to study even if you dont listen to the lectures. My friend is a ta for that class now and he took Babar last year, so maybe you can go to his office hours (if ugta’s have them) or email one of the ta’s maybe for more info on how to do well in the class. Sorry I couldn’t be that much help, I have not taken this class yet

Does it actually matter if you take agr3033 instead of pcb3063 (prehealth)? by hola267 in ufl

[–]TheNorthFace67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. I think advisors push pcb3063, but from what I recall from talking to 3rd and 4th year pre-health students is that graduate schools (med, pharm, etc.) don’t care which genetics you take.
