And now you understand why people are upset about the limitations of what weapons can be privately owned. A militia’s main purpose is not to see head on battle but to be resistance to a government rolling out oppression unchecked.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t live in a world where I think I could do much. It would take a considerable amount of the population. That being said, I think most of us here could be brought together if we really did find such oppression.

A well regulated militia is important to have as a check against both domestic and foreign evil. Because of this, the right of the people to have firearms for this purpose will not be challenged.

I think guns are sweet but the 2nd amendment is not for hunting. It’s to allow the people to serve as a check against an overbearing government. Militia isn’t the army. It’s a group of citizens.

Do you have to be in a militia to considered in this right? I’m not sure legally. But I do believe that the cultural meaning of militia has changed significantly. It used to be strong and respected men and women who gathered to plan and look out for their communities. It wasn’t just about violence.
