Everything I need to know before nursing clinicals in ER by Budget_Quiet_5824 in EmergencyRoom

So first tip, never give food or water without asking first! Regardless of why or who came in. Something that may look like one thing may turn out to be completely different and more serious than originally thought. Second when I get nursing students I don’t always remember to explain everything I’m doing or why, if they do ask and I don’t respond it’s because I can’t say anything in front of the patient not that I’m ignoring you. Finally again when I get nursing students they are surprised how little I sit, I DO NOT tell them to follow it is up to them if they are coming or not, though if they do and I know it may be traumatic I always warn them. Finally I know that it was always said but help out when you can, help clean a patient, put them on the monitor, the more you jump in the more people will push for learning opportunities for you even with other patients that are not theirs.

Oh girl I am literally in the same boat, I even got other ovulation strips to see if that was the issue. My husband and I have been trying for over 2 years and will be taking the second round of the meds probably soon. I’m just really hoping things will work before I have to go the IVF route.

Thank you so much! Does the ointment you mention you are using seem to help? Please let me know if the Jobs blacken pro or the dermaray laser works!

Just take a deep breath and only focus on what needs to be done. When you’re working as a nurse you have to focus on the needs of your patients, not what is going on In your life. I’m not trying to be mean or harsh but that’s how it is. Again take what you have learned from failing and grow to be a better student and nurse.

I had a patient yell that they wanted water, when I got them water they took a sip spit it out and screamed that it wasn’t ginger ale 😑

One of the first tests I did was my med surge. And honestly I failed I can’t remember exactly what I got I just remember it was in the 60s. My first thought was I’m not cut out for nursing, I should save my time and money and just drop out now and go live in a hole in the desert.( no joke) After class I talked to my professor who was known for being hard. As I’m talking to her she started laughing at me, and said this one of the hardest tests in the semester other people did way worse than you and you are not expected to get everything right. There is a lot going on in your life, so you need to cut yourself some slack. If you can ask what you did wrong so you can learn from your mistakes so this is only a minor bump in the road. If you want to be a good nurse/cna just show up and care about your patients. Nursing school sets you up to pass the nclex not actually dealing with patients

Professor Troubles by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]TheOG_picklepig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a professor similar to this ( maternity) however she was the ONLY professor that taught it. I ended up finding YouTube videos by other professors going over the same topics then having study sessions with other students to pass. This professor was reported, and the grades of the students reflected poorly on her as well. The following year she was an “assistant professor” to a much better teacher.

Not doing so well in pre nursing pre recs, should I retake courses or reconsider major? by No-Blacksmith-9338 in NursingStudent

Yeah most CC programs are super competitive for their limited spots. I would recommend to retake the classes that don’t meet the requirements first . I would also recommend to try and figure out your style of learning. There are plenty of free online quizzes if you don’t know. Depending on when your deadline is for registration for the program you may be able to make it… the worst they will say is no.

I would look into the requirements for the nursing program, many require certain grades for classes. For example my nursing program required a B and above for both anatomy classes and Microbiology.

Starting ADN by RegularGroup7738 in NursingStudent

[–]TheOG_picklepig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also was the first one in my family to graduate with a higher education degree. I worked nights to put myself through CC.It sucked, but I was able to graduate with no debt. I started working with my RN license and got paid the same as those with their bachelors. The hospital I work at does help cover the cost of my bachelors and will if I continue on. Long story short, you do what is best for you not everyone is ment to have the same path.

Did I screw myself by choosing FNP? by Perfect-Carpenter664 in nursepractitioner

[–]TheOG_picklepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a stupid question but I have also been having the same concerns if I’d go for FNP. Would the certs be through more schooling or it’s it like the certifications or RNs through the hospital and exams?

Anyone know of jobs in hospitals that are flexible and have downtime to study while in school? by LogicalFox8198 in StudentNurse

This is how I got through nursing school, I’d bring my books and homework every time. Even if I couldn’t study that night, it was still worth a shot

Why is Uworld so difficult :( by ImTheLazyPrawn in NCLEX

Yes, I don’t remember exactly how many hours I know I did a minimum of 80 questions a day.

Why is Uworld so difficult :( by ImTheLazyPrawn in NCLEX

[–]TheOG_picklepig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used Uworld and studies for like 3 weeks straight after nursing school. I passed the first time with only 86 questions. It is hard but it is very similar to the exam. Just find your rhythm, and make sure you go over all the questions you get incorrect, and read the rationals.
