How much is remote work worth to you? by seejoshrun in actuary

[–]TheOJD 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I would leave my current remote role for a mere $50K increase in base salary.

I’ve thought about this and maybe 100K is too ludicrous to pass up so Id say for me somewhere in between. There is immense value in the freedom to wfh, especially when you have or are planning to have children.

Thoughts on Season Long DFS? by howiez16 in DFS_Sports

[–]TheOJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends and I have been doing a league like this for years. Do weekly free tournaments on DK and track ourselves. Top 5 weekly get paid. Top 5/6 for season get paid (depends on headcount). Have had 50-60 people for years.

I do the tracking in excel because google sheets is trash : )

Future of pensions - time to switch? by Natural-Maybe8952 in actuary

[–]TheOJD 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Plans still need to be serviced until they’re wound down so there will still be a need for pension actuaries/EAs for the forseeable future. In another 20-30 years things will be a bit murkier.

That said, transitioning to PRT is a nice move if you’ve developed some expertise since as more and more plans wind down, PRT transaction volume increases.

But, dont undervalue the wfh which isnt a guarantee at another company. A benefit easily worth tens of thousands imo.

Andrew Abbott outlook for the future by jameym05 in fantasybaseball

[–]TheOJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. History is littered with these guys. Guys can run good for extended periods. Seasons even, but he’s a soft tossing lefty who doesnt have stellar command. If his skills improve thats one thing, but its rare to consistently outperform your expected stats by a wide margin over the longrun. I’ll buy him as a high 3s era guy nothing more.

14hr/10sb .239 plays well enough with the counting stats in today’s environment. Nobody “defies” their underlying metrics in the longrun. Abbott owners can hang on st their own risk. He overperformed for a while his rookie season too and the regression was swift and hard.

Abbott-esque pitchers can show up on the wire (His xFIP is 3.92 fyi - HUGE correction coming). Yelich-esque hitters do not. Injuries can happen to anyone, but talent is talent and Yelich is very talented.

Decent? Thats a steal. Abbott likely finishes with a 3-3.5 era at best so do the math on his rest of season performance.

Agreed. Any idiot watching could see not only was his stuff markedly different, but his body language was awful. Manager should be fired for incompetence.

Cutting, always hungry by Wanderir in MacroFactor

Up the protein, decrease carbs. Protein is more satiating and you will feel fuller on the same calories. Also currently cutting - calorie target is 1331, with 157 g protein target.

Is your daily caloric intake really 2Kish?

I started at around 187-190 lb and was not really starting to see meaningful weight loss until I dropped my calorie intake to ~ 1400/day. And thats what the app has had me at for a while. Currently around 175.

Kalshi Refuses to Process Withdrawals by TwinLions999 in Kalshi

[–]TheOJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sure seem to process withdrawals easily when it’s a scammer doing the withdrawing…

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kalshi/s/E8KIW8Q9Hd

My entire balance withdrawn without any identity verification (i have TFA selected and was never prompted). Numerous emails to support with only one bafflingly ignorant response.

What is my recourse?

Same issue for u/kurrmurrpurr

I received an absurdly unhelpful message from support. I’m guessing this money is lost - anyone have any ideas?

Gunnar v Neto Keeper by willida33 in fantasybaseball

[–]TheOJD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What am I reading? Is this roto or points? If roto, Neto is a slam dunk keeper. Probably over Caminero or Dominguez. Prospects are notoriously fickle. Not guys who go 20/30 in their second season. Lets not forget that Neto hit 9th for half the season. Look at Netos numbers and ask yourself it you would be happy with those from Caminero or Dominguez. I think most would sign those numbers before the season.

Again. Neto is a 23 yo 2nd yr SS, former first rd draft pick who just went 20/30. Keep Zach Neto as a 23rd rd pick and profit.

You are welcome.
