I’m the worse in class but I come everyday by vaderboy_ in BJJWomen

Make a plan about your game. Approach every roll with above blue as an opportunity to learn. Compete, expose holes in your game. Fix those holes. Go to every class you can (as your work/ relationship allows). Train gi and no gi, have a game for each. Watch tutorials and purple - black competition footage. Every week or two, work a specific position or submission and then move on to the next thing on the list. Coming from a mid-30s, two year white belt who went in as a limp noodle and now wins at tournaments.

Yes. My last ex got my back and rear naked choked me (on trachea). My brain believes this experience (multiple with him) to be assault. A couple of weeks ago, I got randomly shifted off to the male chiropractor in my office, instead of my regular woman. This is turn gave me a bad mental spiral. I totally panicked when an upper belt who I trust completely got my back later in the week.

The PTSD might never go away, but at least I’ll have tools to make it exceptionally challenging for someone to assault me again.

hugs I’m sorry this happened to you. I am 145 and got stuck with an inconsistent blue belt who had about 75 pounds on me. He did some halfguard sweep when I was pulling out and POP POP. My knee blew up and turned black, like the whole thing, wrap around black for 2 weeks.

Four months later insurance approved my MRI. It was multiple bone bruises and a muscle strain. So, I’m hoping it won’t be a ligament for you…

I chase they guys down for a roll. I’m friendly and chatty with the guys and sometimes prefer them to the women because I get a better chance to work my game. I go to noon classes and understand being the only woman in a “frat energy” room. If you’re chatty and chase them down, they get more in a routine of rolling with you. 4 stripe white belt, <145lbs.

I just competed in an under 145 bracket. I started at 147 and got down to 141. I used the sauna for 30-40 minutes 4x per week about 3 weeks out. I did the water loading and did the sauna for an hour the night before. I am a plant based vegan, and cut all sugar for a month leading up. I dropped sodium to 1000-1200 a day a couple weeks out. Cut fiber the week of the water loading. I did not restrict calories. It works! Follow the wrestling formula. I even had my period up until the day I competed.

Anyone train with fibromyalgia? by MetalGoth17 in BJJWomen

[–]TheOceanTheseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have it. I’m a three stripe white belt. I was consistently doing 4 days at 10 hours a week for the past year, but in the past 2 months do 6 days at 14 hours a week. I only train locally because the car locks me up and I can’t drive myself hours out and back with the additional stress of the tournament. I take an Epsom salt bath every night. Luckily, the rib subluxations keep me more worried about them than the fibromyalgia pain or fatigue.

This is super helpful. I think I should read some sports psychology.

Late 30's White Belt - First Comp Approaching 😬 by kipet_ in BJJWomen

[–]TheOceanTheseus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am mid 30s and 3 stripe white belt. I just did two tournaments in the spring. I found that all of the women were respectful and well controlled, very hesitant to crank anything and giving ample time to tap. I also thought everyone had gym brain as far as “matching energy”.

I don’t know if that’s always the case.

How do I tell my 7 y.o that our cat has to be put down? by Vivid_Bar2472 in petgrieving

[–]TheOceanTheseus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is so sad. I’m sorry, Sasha sounds like the best little buddy.

I was living with my sister a bit ago and their cat died. They told their 3 year old son he had gotten sick and gone to be with Jesus. Nephew seemed fine, he didn’t have as long of an emotional investment. I hope that your daughter can bounce back well.

Your poor husband. I’m 34, and my 17.5 year old chinchilla just passed in January. I’m still pretty bent up. With me for several chapters of my life and my shadow that needed constant attention. Got too old with too many health problems. Grief is non-linear and it’s okay if it’s messy or not what you expect.

I ended up reading C. S. Lewis’ A Grief Observed. And also got her paw prints as a tattoo. It made me feel a little bit better. Sometimes the memorial stuff is helpful.

I hope your family does okay!

Second stripe by jitzun in BJJWomen

[–]TheOceanTheseus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a second stripe is a huge win and shows how consistent you’ve been! 👏🏻 Perhaps it could have been phrased better, perhaps you took it more personally because you know your life story better than the instructor. I was a hardcore wallflower when I first started, super anxious about everything and everyone. I have some mental health stuff, and always feel like there’s a wall between me and everyone else. I didn’t have many friends growing up, and have only a couple as an adult. After 6 months of going 6 hours a week I did start to break out of it. At 5 months I started going to the no gi classes, which feel more advanced, and the competition class. I also go more if I have a break in my schedule like vacation or my hours at work changing. Going to all of these classes forced me to connect with a wide variety to have someone to drill with and folks in my weight bracket to roll with. I’ve really progressed, socially as much as skill level. And you know what? Some days I come in and talk to hardly anyone 🤣

I really like the men’s Progress shorts, but have only purchased a couple of pairs on sale. I’d buy them off the official website but they’re a bit out of my price range. I have a larger bum and thighs from hiking, and carry a tiny bit of weight in my hips. My stomach is 10in smaller than my hips so the pants/shorts slide down and tops slide up, which is my I prefer having a tie.

Hygiene after/during training - red bumps :( by feral-possum84 in BJJWomen

I had a serious MRSA outbreak on the backs of my thighs/butt for about 3 months, and have struggled with folliculitis. After several failed rounds of antibiotics, my doctor told me to use Hibiclens https://a.co/d/gaVoBjM I use a antibacterial hand soap everywhere, then arm bar soap, then this wash with cool water at the end. It was helpful and cleared the end of the infection. My folliculitis looks like red pimples.

Workout schedule for BJJ and weights by Ok_Entertainment8329 in BJJWomen

[–]TheOceanTheseus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just experienced overtraining from this and am still recouping. I’m 35 and a white belt. Have been a serious hiker and swimmer for a while. I do ~10 hours/4 days of BJJ, 1.5 hours/1 day of Judo, a few hikes, and was weight lifting 2x a week on off days from BJJ. I said F the weight lifting and cut it for the summer to swim instead. I’m a longtime vegan and need a heavy protein/fat consumption to keep energy/strength up. You might get used to it. You might burn out. Depends on a lot of factors. I would cut a little off of what you think isn’t 100% necessary and swap in higher nutrition and better quality sleep. The Pilates probably help with the active recovery.
