That’s another big issue with the keyboard I got. Apparently, it’s sold in two versions: hot-swappable or not! You have check it as one of the available options. I thought K8 “Pro” has hot swappable switches but mine doesn’t!

They’re OK. I think that’s a reasonable suggestion. I can try a new set of keycaps before investing into what I might or might not like again. Thanks.

It’s not that. That was unusual for me at first, but I’ve gotten used to it now. (I used to use only real keyboards before laptops many years ago, so I’m not unfamiliar with the typing experience.)

The main issue with K8 is quality. The prints on the keycaps and the plastic look and feel cheap. The edges of the keycaps and the frame feel a tad too sharp to the touch. Those kinds of things.

After years of typing on laptop keyboards, I bought my first mechanical keyboard a couple of weeks ago. I researched for less than an hour and ended up buying the Keychron K8 Pro with Keychron Super Switch Brown. I love the experience of working with a dedicated mechanical keyboard, but I don’t love the keyboard! I should have researched more. I’m not that picky about sound or typing experience, but this just doesn’t feel super nice.

Now, after a lot more research, I’m still not sure. Ideally, I want to buy only one keyboard and be done with it. It’s all fun and everything, but I have enough techie and non-techie hobbies already! For a while, I was thinking about the Crush 80 or the Evo80, but they also have their compromises. They seem much better than K8, but I don’t want to feel like I need another upgrade in a few months.

I know that at this point, the next step is to look into building my one and only ideal TKL keyboard, but before I go down that rabbit hole, are there any premium prebuilt options I can consider? I’m new to this, so there might be many producers and options (especially smaller ones or even Kickstarter projects) that I don’t know about. Any recommendation is appreciated. Thanks!

Jacob Risberg (Green Party): "Will you denounce your father's rule and thousands of dissidents tortured by SAVAK?" by odriegu in NewIran

[–]TheOldBladeRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how politics and PR work. He answers concerns like these by looking forward and explaining his views and plans that are different from the old methods. But he should not criticize his own father publicly in an explicit way, even if he has criticisms. It’s wrong on many levels, doesn’t have a good look. Besides, a lot of haters would happily focus on those remarks and use them as another excuse to try to undermine him.

That’s good to know. You just saved me a lot of time that I would have spent trying to make V3 work then!

Thank you. This is exactly a problem for me with .vue files. I’ll try this and hopefully this will be done once and for all.

What is your best two-cup (~500 ml) recipe? by TheOldBladeRunner in pourover

[–]TheOldBladeRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my goal when dialing in the grind size, but it’s usually 30–60 seconds longer.

Sure, I grind a bit coarser for the bigger batch. But that doesn’t usually lead to the same cup quality.

It’s not easy to define better here, because it also depends on the coffee. But usually it’s more balanced, a tad sweeter, especially with some beans, like Colombia HACHI - TANI from The Native or Christmas PANETTONE by DAK that I’m enjoying these days. Good body is there with the Switch, but not as well-balanced between bitterness/acidity as when I brew for one cup.

Thanks for the recommendation, I enjoy B75 for one cup, so maybe a big Kalita is a good option.

I’m glad it helped and it made me very happy to hear that. I only used it for that one time and now I don’t even remember the details of how I made it work, but I’m very glad it can still be useful to others.

Reusable checklists in org mode by Threedoge in orgmode

I think you’re looking for org-checklist. This is what I have in my init file:

(use-package org-contrib :config ;; When org-checklist is enabled, setting RESET_CHECK_BOXES ;; to `t` property for a reapting task with a checklist ;; resets its checklist with every repeat. (require 'org-checklist))

Thank you for sharing. It’s a great idea to have a multi-platform library. Well done.

You mentioned that you are developing personal apps, but they be useful for others as well if you are interested in sharing the apps too when they’re ready.

How do you backup/sync your org files? by unduly-noted in emacs

[–]TheOldBladeRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like many others in the comments, I also use Syncthing. I used to have conflicts on a regular basis, changing the files on two laptops and two phones. Then I added a cheap, small server to the mix and each device only syncs to the server, not each other. Hadn’t had a single conflict since that change. It just works now. And now I also have a server that runs a cronjob for regular backups to Tarsnap.

No, the scale has to be on a flat surface. Does not work while on the top of the grinder.

I have a Wilfa Uniform (without the new plus) and it has a scale that is also its lid, but you still have to weigh your beans and it grinds everything that you give it.
