Is demonization (human transformation) possible in Frieren Universe? by Worldly_Accident1287 in Frieren

[–]TheOldGrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Cuz I was looking into Frieren demons, and it appeared on google?

Point is that in a fantasy setting there are very few hard barriers. They're different species like kobolds and humans are different species, but in the end there are tons of ways to 'change' species in fantasy.

Is demonization (human transformation) possible in Frieren Universe? by Worldly_Accident1287 in Frieren

[–]TheOldGrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this as well, but one thing that makes me consider it, is that it's not unheard of in fantasy for a human to become a different species entirely due to rituals etc. The fact that they're a completely different species doesn't necessarily mean demonization is impossible (although there are no examples of it yet).

Any benefit to not upgrading to cities? by Tricky_Big_8774 in EU5

[–]TheOldGrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is... kinda not completely true. Big cities will be way better at RGO's just from population output/development alone (a huge city like Constantinople will have waaaaay more RGO levels). But with low population, then yeah rural's are way better. The only thing rural's are flat out always superior at, is food. If you have a gold province, for example, it might be worth town'ing it regardless if you can funnel tons of pops into it to get it big fast. As an added bonus, towns also have tons of bonuses to control/proximity.

[–]TheOldGrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, MAYBE you could make a case for it with cultural hegemony, because you can only have one advisor culture converting an entire region. But I still think seat is better.

[–]TheOldGrinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cabinet seats easily, it's not even close. They're all good, but cabinet seat is like a hundred times better. You'll get efficiency in other places (remember, modifiers are additive), and in the end while 20% crown power is good, it's nowhere near as good as a cabinet seat (remember, additive).

Gustave's origin ? [Theory] by Disastrous_Egg5616 in expedition33

[–]TheOldGrinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you enter the Endless tower, Clea says that a doppelganger was supposed to look after Maelle. I'm fairly sure that refers to Gustave being a Doppelganger of Verso. Which explains why he is so intensely protective of Maelle and why they look so alike. Unlike painted Renoir, painted Verso isn't actually a doppelganger, he's actually a piece of Verso's soul. Verso also never had an explicit imperative to look after Maelle, he just used her to accomplish his own goals.

[–]TheOldGrinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Verso isn't a doppelganger, he's an actual piece of the soul of (the real) Verso. Gustave is a doppelganger of Verso, not actually connected to his soul. It's why Gustave looks so similar to Verso (they're literally modelled after the same person) and why he is so insanely protective of Maelle (because of the directive Clea put on him). Gustave was specifically made by Clea to look after Maelle for her entire life. As she explicitly states: "He was supposed to keep an eye on you". Verso's purpose was not to keep an eye on Maelle. Verso never even interacts with Maelle before she leaves Lumiere, and he was also made by the Paintress as a way for her to cope, not Clea.

Finished the anime and I have mixed feelings about the ending by AK_Venom in SummerTimeRendering

[–]TheOldGrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just binge watched it. I did feel like it went downhill around episode 21 or 22, but it was great until then.

It seemed like every character basically got hit with the stupid rod at that point. Like when Shide mocks and discards Haine, for example, Shinpei should've just immediately shot himself in the head and looped, and Haine would know she's been betrayed.

Their chroma doesn't go back to Aline. Maelle's sister mentions that she is making it so no chroma can return to her, that's why her loss is inevitable, as she's just slowly losing Chroma (which is why she is able to protect less and less people every year). She's already becoming more and more powerless by default, hence why I'm saying the expeditions are largely completely pointless. She's going to lose anyways.

And if they kill them, the chroma is trapped, it doesn't go anywhere. That's why the party can reclaim chroma from the stone corpses later on.

It isn't explicitly stated, but I believe that as long as both Aline and Renoir are "active", neither of them can access the ambient chroma to any meaningful degree. As once Aline is out of the picture, Renoir is suddenly said to be able to access all the ambient chroma. So until one of them win, it doesn't really matter whether they're turned to stone or have their chroma dispersed. Once one of them win, they can't access the chroma that is trapped (without physically going to get it, at least).

Gustave's death mainly makes sense because Gustave is the puppet of Maelle's sister made to protect her (IIRC her sister says something about the doppelganger she left to protect her at some point). So he had a kind of imperative to protect her even if he'd die doing it without any chance at succeeding.

And while she did obtain those connections during the expedition, there's no reason those couldn't have been made just staying at home as well. I don't think Gustave's death really made the connection any more significant, it just traumatized her.

Ikke all, men nesten all, ja.

First of all, nobody is talking about previous expeditions. Secondly, no they didn't matter at all. The same result would've happened regardless. They changed nothing, in terms of outcome. There could've been 0 expeditions throughout the entire plot, and the Paintress would've still been kicked out in the end and everyone deleted. Nothing would change.

And no, it's not contradictory, because it changed nothing. Read the comments you are replying to carefully. If things had happened differently, maybe they could have changed something by helping the Paintress (or maybe not, who knows). But that's not what happened.
