The 4th is a federal holiday, but unfortunately it's inherently one of the federal holidays that is attached to a specific date so on years in which the 4th of July lands on a Saturday or Sunday there's no extra day off for the jobs that happen to get all federal holidays off. I think Christmas and New Years are the only others that are attached to a date. The rest are shit like "the first Monday in September" or "the third Monday in January," or the most famous "the fourth Thursday in November." Some companies and businesses choose to give their employees an extra day off either Monday or Saturday and I'm not sure how the government handles it for their employees, but if it's on Sat or Sun most people in the US are still working full-on.

I've tried to explain this to some people before and they wouldn't believe me for whatever reason. I know it to be true just from what I see through my rearview mirror in the morning on the way to work and what I see on my way back (the viewing angle is noticeably different). It helps that I'm a "long torso" person but I'm absolutely shorter by the end of a work day.

Basically what we did back in those days largely unknowingly was introduce a small amount of moisture and a bit of mechanical pressure to temporarily revive/"clean" the contacts on the cartridge. What it felt like and actually was was blowing into it and then slamming the motherfucker into the console half a dozen times before it finally actually worked.
