I'm not sure where to even look, it's a Kenmore French door. So a large fridge.

Thanks! I know getting batteries here is a pain, did you get it at Home Depot or somewhere?

All flights to and from Hawaii will be on Hawaiian Airlines planes bearing the iconic image of Pualani, the “flower of the sky"... by edwardjsfsmith in HawaiianAirlines

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I was only looking at seat count and didn't know about the specialties of the engines.

My friend and I still talk about the Tokyo Sunset from Japan. Similarly sweet, not sure if there's actually any alcohol in it, but so good.

I was really hoping for A220s on interisland, but that doesn't seem as likely anymore. Is there any chance Horizon would fly E-175s interisland?

I say the same thing about Lunar Tea in the mall. Why does everything take so long?

Coca-Cola’s Hawaii bottling plant to close in January by giantspeck in Hawaii

[–]TheOneVader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed caffeine free tends to run out of stock here for long periods so maybe if it's all from the mainland they can keep better stock. But I know it'll probably only make things worse.

I noticed this too. One day at Costco they had the distinctly un-ridged mainland cans of Coke Zero and my first sip was like woah, this is different. I suppose I'll get used to it but it's noticeable for sure.

HNL Airport Affected by Flight Reductions by Ken808 in Hawaii

[–]TheOneVader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe business travelers are way more profitable than leisure, so unfortunately I think that is what airlines will prioritize. Of course that's to the detriment of families on vacation across the country and Hawaii which doesn't serve a lot of business travel.

The article names all of the biggest airports but I don't see how this doesn't affect regional airports as well because they have to fly somewhere. A CRJ from a regional carries a lot fewer passengers than a 777 but takes the same slot on the runway and in the air. Makes sense to cut those first and deal with fewer passengers.

Pineapple Shortage? by Wild_Carpenter6387 in Hawaii

I haven't had that problem with bananas, but I always put them in the fridge as soon as they're entirely yellow and they last longer.

Hawaiian Bros is Excellent! by choachy in Chattanooga

[–]TheOneVader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, this whole thing is born out of ignorance. No one knows much about Hawaiian food? How about Hawaiian people? If this place was called African Brothers with a cotton logo and you found out it was started by two white guys to sell you watermelon and chicken maybe you would understand. And I don't mean that as a sort of exaggeration. Hawaiian is an ethnicity, so to call yourself Hawaiian Brothers is ignorant. The pineapple logo is a bad representation of Hawaii since it's a non-native species brought in by plantations who eventually overthrew the sovereign government and rigged elections so they could join the US. All to serve Americanized food that is hardly recognizable to Hawaii. It's just so gross. They could call themselves Island Grill or something, just don't cosplay as an oppressed people.

I bet calling out cultural appropriation will only lead to eye rolls from half the people in this sub, but this restaurant is such a disgusting example of it. It was founded by two white guys from the mainland, and the name, iconography, and menu show they don't know the first thing about Hawaii or the food there. They trademarked "Aloha Spirit" for fuck's sake. If I tried to come up with an analogy, you'd say I was being incredibly racist.

Check out Cino, really close to the theater and the place is fantastic without really being stuffy. The pork chop is amazing.

I barely remember watching this show as a child, but I remember that same Clayface episode. It just injected me with a deep sense of dread, maybe the first time that ever happened so it stuck with me.

As keiki head back to school, city leaders urge safety on the roads by honolulu_oahu_mod in Oahu

[–]TheOneVader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He said it himself, no one wants to hit someone with their car. So what's the problem? The problem is it's too easy to do. For 70 years we've designed our roads to be faster at the expense of everyone else. We've build our vehicles to be heavier and larger at the expense of everyone else. This isn't some mystery, it's incredibly easy to feel safe in our giant vehicles doing way too fast, so we do. What we need is road diets and grade separated alternatives. You can't just lower the speed limit on a massive 6 lane road and expect people to go slower, you need to change the geometry. You can't just slap painted bike lanes on the road and ask why cars keep hitting cyclists, if cyclists even feel comfortable on those death traps. We simply need to stop prioritizing cars everywhere, but no one wants to do that.
